Warmest thanks to Treasure for the cool info on finding one's first post!

You're most welcome!

There is a huge downside to finding old threads in which you posted, though.  I can't tell you how much time I've wasted in the past few days reading old threads.  [8D]

Edited to add:  In my humble opinion, we had a greater percentage of really great threads in the past.  While there's an interesting one here and there now, there's a lot fewer really good ones.

DesFIP -> RE: Long-term Forum Posters - A Longevity Question. (1/2/2011 5:55:08 PM)

I found one under a previous nic from Nov, 07. There was a glitch and that nic couldn't access the forums so I started over with this one.

Yeah.  I've been reading "a bucketful" of old threads as well.

An idea for another thread would be something like "Which threads have you found the most entertaining / interesting / informative / etc and why?" (links and explanations required)

I've been in so many that it would be painful to pick only a couple.  One that has stuck in my memory is the very long thread where juliaoceania, Synergy and I had a really intense discussion about socialism and communism.  Another was the one where NorthernGent and I re-fought WWI.

I can find links if anyone is interested ... [:D]

nov 07 was my first post but under a different name

CynthiaWVirginia -> RE: Long-term Forum Posters - A Longevity Question. (1/3/2011 12:37:28 AM)

I'm one who kept leaving, not used to all the stuff that passes for normal in the chatrooms and mail room.  Under the username I finally settled on, before this one, my first post in the message boards was in the introduction area on March 11, 2005.

Which makes things seem Twilight Zone strange because under that same name, cynthiamarie, in the profiles area it says that I joined on July 4th, 2005.  (I had the name cynthiamarie several times and killed off the profile.)

I was here for about a year before I made it into the message boards to look around.  LOL, I was lost in here...I would post and then had no clue how to find where I posted so I could keep up.  1994 seems so long ago...and like yesterday, all at the same time.

oldest post of mine I can find so far was 5/8/07.

favorite childhood toys, I think it was...

really??? crying sake...will have a look later...a bummer with a previous profile name was that it attracted the wrong folks and on top of that did not allow me to chat on here....which means I had the username as profile but the same username with a 2 at the end for the forums...which...peed me off...hence why I changed that name at that time....

damn have to search again through those ones later [>:]

I've noticed that too. Gresham's Law, maybe?

Perhaps.  But probably more because those really good topics have already been covered.  [;)]

Maybe we need to start a recycling program...

That possibility occurred to me too.

But I also see the decline in the political threads, where there regularly are fresh topics. I wonder if many of our thoughtful, reasoned posters gave up trying to converse with what someone once called "partisan parrots."

I love the phrase "partisan parrots," by the way. The first use of it I could find on the site was a 10-20-07 post by Bufotenin.

That's a distinct probability.  I know I post less there because of it. But politics and religion is a contentious forum, at best.

Honestly, if it wasn't my bedtime I'd start a thread asking posters what they think would be good ways to promote interesting threads.  I know I have a couple of ideas.   [:)]

this is the fool proof way of finding your first post:

Thank you. That makes my first post in Off Topic on 9 April 2006.

BeautyDebased -> RE: Long-term Forum Posters - A Longevity Question. (1/4/2011 8:52:46 PM)

I rarely post,

Not because I'm afraid to but because I don't really feel the need, I have a sub to speak to in real life if needed, who's also my best friend, I'm also happily collared and with that get too busy to be on here so much.

I do understand some come on to help others which is nice but I think it's really just preference, that or time, for me it's a little of both.

Beauty.

Hiya Firm,

Yep, I was Voltare once upon a time. In fact, I was a member of the collarme forum that existed for about a yearish, before they moved to a different ASP driven forum and database (the one that is still used here.)

I rarely use the forums here, as I don't spend a ton of time online anymore, and SF's kink community is mostly glued together by the 'other' site.

When I joined collarme, I was living in Santiago, Chile, pursuing my first long term M/s relationship, still 'curious' about real life Goreanism (as opposed to theoretical Gor, as illustrated in role play) and struggling to learn guitar. Seems almost a lifetime ago.

I peek in on CM once or twice a month usually, just curious to see what it's become, though I've found the quantity of spam and the heavy handed approach to moderation to be a turn off. I don't blame the site or the management, I just think new social media formats controlled by superusers (i.e. groups created and maintained by users) are eclipsing the 'mainframe' central management formula.

Just two cents.

Stephan
