Danger BD, Termy is about to post. Get popcorn. First of all I don't believe "in" anything. I either believe it or I don't but that does not mean I know everything so there is always doubt. I have found some things uncanny. I try to explain them in psysical, real terms. My base point is that there is nothing unnatural or supernatural, those are mere words to describe parts of nature which we do not [yet] understand. Within the confines of my belief system I will try to explain this the best I can. Remember, nothing supernatural : When you were concieved you were nothing but one molecule, paired with another molecule. They conbined to form you. Those two molecules were relatively immune to terrestrial forces, but not completely. For the sake of discussion right now, let's disregard certain things and get on with those things which we cannot control. To start, signs of the zodiac represent the season at the very least in which you were born. It would not be logical to assume that one born oin the winter would have the same background as one born in the summer, even if siblings. Those early years are extremely important in the development of the human mind. Can we predict what effect the seasonal changes would have ? Not likely. Therefore a study of human traits segregated by season of birth could be a valid basis for the theories in the field of astrology. What's more, astronomy, which is more of a hard science, is tightly involved with astrology. Those "heavenly bodies" are stars, planets, whatever. As such they emit energy, ultraviolet, infrared, gravity and really - who knows what else. We cannot assume we know everything. Without history showing traits and trends in humans, astrology would've never gotten off the ground. There would be no basis. What else would make people believe ? Therefore if we accept astrology as a science, we must know that it is a science based on observation for a long period of time. However this is only direct observation, not supported by underlying fact. But then electricity once was as well. It is hubristic to assume that we know of and know the effects of each and every force in nature. Could a change in gravity affect the development of a sperm and an egg ? Could the white snow outside have a different effect on a newborn first taken out of the hospital, as opposed to lush green gardens ? And then, could the difference between the year and the sidereal year have effects that change peoples' demeanor, attitude and whatever thus causing history to cycle ? Could things be predicted using such gleaned evidence ? I can't say no. Even though I don't believe "in" it, I do not dismiss the possiblility that the time of birth can have an effect on people, who are indeed the makers of history. "When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars" (Fifth Dimension) you realize that there is an effect on the gravity on this planet. It actually changes our orbit around the sun, not enough to knock it off kilter, but tides and everything are affected slightly. It could be climate that links the assumption with the observation. It could be alot of things. One thing I found out over the years - usually the answer to one question brings on more questions. The more you now, the more you know that you don't know. I am a Leo, and it became apparent when I was very young. Most likely before I ever knew what a horoscope is. My entire family is sure that it was not a self fulfilling prophesy to say the least. My maternal Grandmother did have a look. The cards said certain things and I think she did what people do, grasp, and embrace that which supports the assertion. However later we went to a seer and she predicted that I would be exceptional in electronics, and that did come to pass. I was born in August, I have a cousin, which indicates a similar DNA or heritage, eddy in the gene pool or whatever, who was born in November. He puts me to shame. His two siblings were born different times of the year and do not share his talent. While this is not proof positive by any means it can be taken as an indication. That's what I think happened with astrology. People observing other people and eventually connecting the actual facts with the relative position of the constellations. We have no way to empirically determine if it is a true and natural law pervading all things, or just dumb luck. Maybe in time humans will reconsider these things, melding science and what might be superstition into one, and the meld will point to a force, not a new force, just an undiscovered force. We always knew what light was. After we studied and knew more, then we knew about IR and UV. Later we learned about the whole EM spectrum and how many things work within that paradigm. Then we investigated gravity, molecular structure and the four forces of nature, which non-exclusively are the strong force, the weak force, magnetism and gravity. They got four, are you sure there are no more ? So even though I do not believe in it, nor do I completely believe it, I can't dismiss the possibilities. You asked. I now yield the floor. T
