Please tell me your not advicating pregnant women and drug use.

If you think it's solely propganda then go to your local hospital ask to volunteer in the maternity ward with children addicted to achohol and drugs. See the affect on these children. As adult we make the choice to use a child , an unborn child does not have that choice.

I am advocating no such thing. In both posts I made it clear with closing statements that it is an issue. As I repeatedly stated, I am against the hype.

Hysterical nonsense is hysterical nonsense even if it argues for a good cause.

The thing about studies is that they rarely depict the truth. These days virtually all studies are done by someone with an agenda. One can assume virtually any study done by a pharmaceutical company is done with the intent of showing a need for some new medicine (or the safety of it). The CDC and NIH hasnt really done anything correct that I'm aware of for at least a few decades, University's are often paid to conduct tests, the current administration is owned by the religious right so who do you believe?
No one can say what will happen to "crack babies" when they are in their 20s, 40s and 60s. They could have a plethora of medical conditions that will shorten their lives beyond the expected averages. I would like to point out too (and am not making this comment lightly) that many crack addicts get no medical attention, neither do their kids, many are neglected, abandoned, abused and far to often sold or found in a dumpster. Its a little difficult to maintain accurate records or stats when dealing with those circumstances. Some may consider it hysterical nonsense, others may consider it a humanitarian crisis. There is a MASSIVE rise in babies born the last decade with an alarmingly increasing rate of mental retardation, autism, various mental disorders and physical issues. This could be environmental pollutants, chemicals and preservatives in our food, or drugs the mother took while pregnant. Again, there arent enough conclusive studies to determine the true cause of this increase in babies born with huge complications.

Why don't you have the children come live with you?

Most people aren't going to like this but its my opinion so...I believe if you are a drug addict and you give birth to children, don't take care of them/yourself (and its proven/documented) and you are nothing but a pain in the ass to society you should be sterilized after pumping out that second kid. Men who go around *spreading their seed to the wind* should also be sterlized. What sort of life does this garbage have to offer children? Children are a GIFT and they should be damn glad that they can have them, not use them as an excuse to get more welfare to support their drug habits.

Lashra,
.

In California I know for a fact that if a baby is born with trace amounts of narcotics in its system it is taken away and the mother is arrested on numerous charges including child endangerment. The problem is there is no room in the inn (weather it be the jails or fostercare).

I would also agree that every study has its own agenda. That is simply politics in my mind, however; the hype as you call it does not change the reality for those addicted and how it affects our society.

Again children are our future dont we as asociety have a responsiblity to protect them?

I would agree with that, but it excludes the people who can and do change.  Fact is, you can never know who will and won't change, so forcing them to undergo a medical procedure is immoral in my eyes, not to mention illegal.

Now taking away their children, on the other hand, is a completely viable option, one that needs to be used more often than it is.  People, if you have witnessed children being abused (I don't mean "daddy spanks me sometimes" abuse, I mean serious neglect),  please, please, please, please, PLEASE speak up.  Call Childrens' Protective Services.  If they have nothing to hide, an investigation won't hurt.  It's always rough, but keep in mind that these kids can't take care of themselves.  They need an adult to speak up for them.
