I'm sorry you're going thru this, I know how hard it is to have to do this, but it is for the best.  Grieve for her, she is family, after all.  I was with my dog when he went, it is peaceful, he just drifted off to sleep.

I am so sorry that you have to go through this pain.  I have held too many furbabies as I did the same thing, but I believe the pain is worth it, because of all they give to us, unconditionally, while we have them.
A Dog’s Plea
Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me good food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Usually the dog is given a trank or sedative so they won't be upset and after it takes effect the euthanasia is administered. It isn't uncommon for them to pass just from the sedative as they are so weak. Both my retrievers dies of the tumors. I know exactly what you're going through and I'm thinking of you.

I'm so sorry TFB. Big hugs-- giving Ginger an end with some dignity is a final act of love--we promise to give them a good life when they're healthy, and we promise to make decisions for them that they can't make when they aren't.  I know it's hard.  I'll keep you in my thoughts--

Toppingfrmbottom, my heart goes out to you and yours.
My prayers as well in this time.
I'm so sorry.

I think you made the right choice. Don't keep the ashes... keep the dog's collar, some hair...

My suggestion is to make a paw print impression. You can get the kits cheap at a craft store.

I am going to hug my dogs and pray for your little one.

Don't keep the ashes...

I found the ashes of a pet in an urn on the mantle piece always a bit morbid. I do love my pets but I don't really see what keeping the ashes has to do with loving the pet. I guess it's an industry that brings quite a lot of money, but then so are "magic slimming pills"....

i like to think the kindness an grace I showed in helping sparky exit the world an how much I loved him, is why he visits me in dreams every now an then. Even though logically it's not why.

I've never gone through euthanizing a pet.. I have lost a pet though, and traumatically, so I know it hurts like hell. For many people a pet is like a child, and while we know we will most likely outlive them, it doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye. My heart goes out to you.
The only solace I can give you is that I know a dog's love is pure, and innocent.. and I believe that if there is a heaven, all dogs really do go there. So she will be free from a world of pain and while I am sure she will miss you, she will be in a better place.

We kept the ashes of my cockerspaniel, they put him in a beautiful box with a little lock, and he's on my shelf, I was gonna spread his ashes in some of his fav spots in the yard an then really what it came down to was that's not the last visual I wanted of my "baby". So the box just sits there. I did wanna try to put some of her beautiful hair in resin for a keepsake, and at Xmas thought about the paw thing, decided nah but maybe nowbi will.,

I was there when Chloe-kitty passed over on November 1st. It was very quiet and they just go to sleep. I actually said a prayer over her, kissed her, and held her while they put the injection in.

*hugs* I'm just soooo soooo sorry, TFB.

TY Red. When it was done for sparky, I kissed him an held him too, I wanted to hold him in my lap but the dr said he could poop as he died so I just held him on the table. the tube had a chink in it the vet didn't notice so the meds wouldn't administer at first actuall, but once she straitened it, it was very quick an quiet.

LadyC, I can't speak to "peoples" reasons for it, but my reason wad so I could bring him home an put his ashes to rest in his fav places. Vs who knows where the crematorium people would dump them.

Having loved a special pet who had similiar health issues, I understand. I wish you courage and comfort during this time of dealing with your special pet in a most dignified manner.
