Yep.
I'm also aware that most Germans pronounce Boner to rhyme with "stoner".

I knew a former Marine named Andrew Wahl. Marine uniform name tags include the first initial: A Wahl.  AWOL. I understand MC training is always great fun, but he an extra measure of... indulgence... from his DIs.

We have folks in this town last name of Moenkendich.  I will leave it as an exercise to the reader to determine how to pronounce it

It is his name, he can say it any way it wants.  He can it spells Smith if he wants.

You do understand that over the years many European names have changed either the way they are spelled or spoken?

Correct. According to strict rules for proper names, a proper name can be spelled 'John' and be pronounced 'Sam' if the owner wishes. Probably cause confusion, but would be correct. That is, as long as it's not for illegal purposes.

'hawk

But, if the associated pronounciation to John is John, Sam shouldnt get pissy about it.

I don't really. I'm just wondering why Marc feels that somebody changing an embarrassing name is an imposition.

Because a name is a very personal thing to a person.

This is entirely true.
On the other hand, changing it might make him look a bit less ridiculous than insisting that everybody mispronounces it, which can't hurt in his line of work, can it?
