Yes I realize this question has come up in the forums before. I did a search of the archives and came up with a few threads, namely this one. However, I figured it would be safe to revive the discussion seeing as this thread is from 2007. In an effort to keep this from devolving into a simple poll with people just posting the name of the city they like and moving on, I would ask that you provide a bit more detail in your responses. Maybe speak a bit about the munches available, public play spaces, stores that carry a good supply of BDSM gear and apparel, and any big events hosted in the city. For me, I can say a bit about the scene in Portland, Oregon. This was my first experience getting involved with a community and it was quite welcoming for a newbie. There are a number of public dungeons that host events and regular workshops. Portland Leather Alliance puts together a few big annual events, the biggest being a 3 day event called Kink Fest. I attended it this past year and had an absolute blast! Great event! My only complaint is that the PDX community feels a little small to me. Portland generally has a “big city with a small-town feel” so I guess the same could be said for the scene. I think in the near future I would like to spend some time in a city like London or New York that has a much bigger and more dynamic community. And one more thing, I would definitely love to hear from people outside of the US. It would be nice to hear from those of you in Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, etc. Anything beyond the big cities is kinky terra incognita to me. I frequently hear about kink in London but how about cities like Birmingham, Manchester, etc? Looking forward to reading what you have to say. Thanks in advance for posting.

I was just going to throw up some past links that I've written about My good experiences with kink in Atlanta. Unfortunately, I've literally got five pages worth of threads that have the word "Atlanta" contained in the post. High notes on My vote for that particular city: Public dungeon - 1763. I've had a lot of great times playing there and even collared clip there. (Pics are on the profile.) They have mini dungeons for overnight stay, where I was often a guest. I've done demos there a number of times. My favorite corset maker in the whole world is there - Ms Martha. (She has a profile here.) Home of SELF, DomCon Atlanta, and many other regional events. Obviously a thriving leather community. Several independent toy makers as well as shops such as Aphrodite's Toybox. Several munches throughout the week, as well as the big ones on the weekends. ARM (Atlanta Regional Munch) is held at 1763 the first Saturday of every month. The organizer is a friend of Mine who I have to put a plug in here for, as also one of the most accomplished wax people you would ever want to meet. Specific mention for the city also having a chapter of MAsT. The Eagle is alive and well in the city. TNG munches and play nights available. Fantastic people there. We always had a wonderful time.

Hartford CT. ( Where?) Believe it or not. Active scene, good people. Granted, small city with a small town feel. But The Society is really doing a lot to sponsor fun events, and a clean dungeon space is available.

I don't have any experience anywhere other than here, and I'm fortunate that here is pretty good! "here" is Portland, Oregon.

Best city I have visited has to be London England. Many public and private dungeons. A fantastic night life. Plenty of fetish stores. I cannot wait to go back!

Not San Francisco. The scene here died years ago. Von Gutenberg is trying to get big fetish events going again, but nobody has the disposable income for elaborate fetish right now. Stormy Leather closed their retail store last year, after 20 years. The SF Citadel and Bondage a Go Go soldier on, the last remnants of the scene.

Oh Wow! San Francisco was probably toward the top of my list for cities that would be good to explore and experience. I had no idea! That makes me sad... [:(]

I think it depends what your looking for. London has died back a lot in the last couple of years but still has some good large clubs http://www.clubsubversion.com/ http://www.club-rub.com/ http://www.torturegarden.com/ Sweet Torments closed its doors recently but will hopefully find a new venue and re-open Plenty of smaller ones on the outer edges. Lots of munches too, The London Munch being the largest. 2 large fetish markets every month http://www.londonalternativemarket.com/ and http://www.londonfetishfair.co.uk/ and plenty of fet shops. We also have plenty of workshops to attend and we have peer workshops in rope bondage. http://www.rope-peer-workshop.co.uk/ http://www.fetishmap.co.uk/ is a good place to start if your trying to find your way round fet London and there is a calender of events on Informedconsent.

The Tampa Bay area in Flordia is a reasonable area.Tampa usually host FetishCon,something like that.Theres also munches and play parties spread out through the Tampa Bay region.A few regular places that have a private BDSM club that someone can attend 7 days a week.Plus a few outside clubs that dont mind hosting BDSM events.North of Tampa,are alot of nudist resorts.Makes sense,warm weather all year around.So,theres a few things here.Certainly alot more in this area than many other cities I have lived in,where there is almost next to nothing.Lucky if there is even a monthly munch,much less a party.

Prin, Have you ever been to Manchester England? They have a nice little dungeon in the North side of town. Its built into the arch of a railway bridge. The bridge is made out of bricks/block. And they enclosed one of the archways and into a dungeon. I do not remember the name but its a great little place.

[:(] There was a fun scene here once, but that was a long time ago. The dot-com boom pushed rents up, closing many clubs and art spaces. Then the dot-com collapse caused 40% of the twentysomethings to leave town. The rest were working their tails off trying to stay afloat in an overpriced city. Then the recession hit. Few have the time or money for complicated amusements right now. Last year, the long-running Exotic Erotic Ball (more commercial tackyness than scene) canceled their event days before it was to happen. That was after they'd moved it from San Francisco to Richmond CA, a city about 25 miles from SF noted for its oil refineries. Paige White gave up Madame S, the best fetish shop in town, and moved to Texas. The art scene, having been forced out of SF, has moved across the bay to Emeryville and Oakland, where there's more low-cost space.
