Tweakabelle, while I agree with yours and Peacefuls sentiment regarding the dumbassery of the australia comment, I would like to point out that it was not Peaceful that stated it, but CruelandKindSdst.
I  hate to see the wrong person being blamed for such a dumbass comment

Thanks for pointing out my error Lucylastic.

My sincere apologies to Peaceful and to anyone I unwittingly misled.

I stand by the content of my post. Those figures sound way out of line to me and I await some supporting evidence.

Well RapierFugue, you have the last word. I said I wasn't making any further comments on gun control. You win. Done deal...

Except you then posted again, saying nothing of value, in order to do exactly what you said you weren't going to do.

Nice one! Well done you! Way to honour the dead, and way to advance the debate. You're a star.

See what coming, Lucy? We are still in the earliest part of this investigation, but it looks like a whacko got a gun. In some ways, this may not be very different from the Canadian guy with a knife on the bus. I guess we can all see that insane events like that will come once in a while, as long as nobody expects us to name a place and time.

Is there more to it? I don't know. I can see there will be a full Congressional investigation. Knowing my country, I can also see that there will be new laws brought forward to make sure that nothing like this can ever happen again. [8|]

If you are assuming I share the initial assumption of the county sheriff about the heated rhetoric of the election as a trigger, don't do that.

The Tea Party is becoming Americas version of the Nazis. These are fascist, racist groups that needs to be seriously looked over. These are violent dangerous goons. There are becoming popular in America the same way Nazis did in Germany.America needs to get serious about these jerks before its too late.

No he couldn't have done this with a knife... but why does everyone against guns use that? Don't you all think of the bombs that can be made from many things? He could have done that with a bomb and he wouldn't have had a hard time figuring out how to make one, with legal substances.

(Don't ask me how... hell if I know how to do it, but I've read that it isn't hard to find out.)

It's very easy to make a bomb (just ask the underpants bomber) but making one that works might have been a bit more hassle than buying a gun for this tosspot.
Just a thought.

you people crack me up!

no kidding

to many cartoons and not enough physics books.

all you need is a damn piece of pipe or hell strap 20 of them together and fucking hammer LOL

unreal.....when I listen to some of these conversations I gasp and think these are voters for shits sake.

Wrong. They're your countrymen. It's all your responsibility to fix this. While it’s easier and quicker to blame someone else, it’s the US society and laws as a whole that made it possible, not just one person.

As I posted last night, the one thing outsiders noticed about this event (in terms of foreign news services), was how polarised, divisive and febrile (look it up) the debate on this topic became, in a matter of hours. Instead of drawing together, you divided yourselves.

You might want to ask yourself if that's a good thing for your country, into even the medium, let alone long, term.

Now

You were saying who is a nazi?

1. There is no indications AFAIK that the shooter had any Tea Party connections.

2. The Tea Party's core philosophy is reduced government spending/taxes/activity.  While there are a few unsavory elements that claim tea party connections, all parties have some slimy associations.  Hell, the Democratic party used to be the party of racism.

So, what LAWFUL steps would you recommend to put down this Tea Party that you are afraid of?

WTF is your problem? Okay, I have only a few minutes here because I have a son to get to. You say I was inaccurate in my refuting what you said. Other than guns, or a situation addressing guns only, I couldn't refute what you said, by your debate terms I was unaware of. Good one. There isn't anything to refute it with if you are talking a gun incident. In your eyes mass murder by gun was the only thing I could use to refute what you said and therefore by your decree of what can be used in this debate or for mass murder to prove guns are bad... was guns... so yes... they are bad. You win.

My inaccurate... was my opinion that if someone wants to kill many people, there are other ways other than guns and if they wish to do it, they will find a way. They can use a gun or other things. One way or another they can get the deed done. How is that inaccurate except by your debate terms of only speaking of guns?

As for honoring the dead and all that bs you said... whatever. I guess you can read minds and hearts as well as create debate terms. Now, here's my debate term. It is a done deal for me. I am not going to sit here and fill my day with a stupid argument.. not that the topic is stupid.. but the arguing is. I am done. You did pull me in implying I was dishonorable... it won't happen again. Say what you will.

Thank goodness I live in a more Progressive part of the South and in Flordia. This area is heavily Demotracts.Blacks and Whites live side by side, with barely any trouble at all.World class beaches near by.Helps to know at least my neighbors arent weirdos.Even if the rest of Flordia is about as Conservative with Republicans as they come.

"There's reason to believe this individual [Loughner] may have a mental issue," Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik told reporters Saturday night.

Gee, ya think?

The only event that was powerful enough to bring Americans together for even awhile, was 9/11.That didnt last very long either.Perhaps Americans have become so use to this sort of useless violence, that it dosent seem to matter anymore.I feel bad for anyone who was in that store yesterday. There are alot of people in office who I dont agree with. However, the civil thing to do is make your voice matter at the voting booth.Hey,the Republicans won the House fair and square 2 months ago.Okay,so how about working together.Barack Obama was elected fair and square as our President.Let him at least finish his term without talking about 2012.I mean,America is always on the campaign mode now.We just had an election and 2 years away is already on everyones mind.I think some of the anti-Obama non sense is really getting out of control. As much I couldnt stand Bush and many others,no one called for Bushes head.America is very divided these days. With a nation of over 300 million people who have different thoughts and are able to express those thoughts, thats what happens. There are laws that need to be reformed. However, common sense always gets thrown out of the window in America nowadays.Theres no more"agree to disargee".Now its my way or the highway additude.Your right,it is up to Americans to change this culture of violence. However, one person can only do so much.I wouldnt hold every German alive responsible because of the Nazis.I cant be responsible if my country wants to continue down the path of violence.I just hope someday, maybe America may finally get it.Only time will tell.

Um, it should be blindingly obvious that the guy was nuts.  That said, I know plenty of people who do own guns who are sane.  I think you've made a bad association.

Depends on how you define it.  The TARP bailout brought near-unanimity on the part of all Americans except the bankers, Congress, and the Bush White House...

No, my association was bob-on. Your society, however, is not.

Im not assuming anything Rich , altho... what yourve said is quite enough for me not to need to assume.
So I dunno if you read my last comment..what does happen now??
are you angry enough yet? have enough people died yet?  are you wanting change,  enough?
What will it take to get to that point?
Ive tried to keep the political shit out of my posts on this thread, but I am hyper frustrated.
PS using the loon who cut of the guys head isnt in the same ball park as six dead, and 12 injured.
He had one knife, one person died,no other injuries, why??? Because it wasnt a gun
