This clearly makes him unfit for the Republican party:

quote:

Scarborough, who rails against the likes of Glenn Beck and occasionally says nice things about President Obama, could find himself out of step with today’s GOP culture if he ventures back into the arena.

“If my Republican Party really thinks Sarah Palin is the best Republican candidate in 2012, or believes a talk-show host should be calling the president a racist”—he pauses here—“that’s not my party.”

Lets see,a Conservative Republican from the South has been able to firgure out that his party has gone so far to the right, they have fallen off the edge.Of course,Sarah Palin,Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity and those who follow them, will just call him a traitor,a sell out and a RINO.For all the talk about left wingers, the Democrats have been far more tolerant of their more Moderate to Conservative members, than the Republicans have been of their Moderate members.I hope that Joes party will listen to him,but I am not holding my breath on that one.

I went to the library the other day to get a book on great moderates in American history.  I couldn't find one.

You couldn't?

I have great biographies of Eisenhower, Clinton, U.S. Grant and Washington. Your library must suck.

DomKen -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 3:37:15 PM)

BTW has anybody seen Palins video she released sometime today? Any speculation on whether she knew what 'blood libel' means?

Well, the definition certainly returned the literal meaning of centuries past in hurry, when the useless, piece of shit, blinded to their own hypocrisy by bigotry and hate, liberals (sorry, but I'm protesting any calls to moderate the tone just now) saw an opportunity for another way to attack Mrs. Palin. Until recently, it was a good metaphor for "the kind of vicious lie that gets hoi polloi to grab the torches and pitchforks."

I'm sure this concern with literalism will last right up until a prominent Democrat says something stupid and offensive.

Lucylastic -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 6:45:48 PM)

She did it her fucking self Rich, she couldnt just leave it to the single condolence note, she had to try and refudiate it
and failed by trying to be clever
and your own hypocrisy by bigotry and hate towards "liberals" is hysterical
at least I have only badmouthed the cunt herself

Hillwilliam -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 6:47:01 PM)

Personally, I dont think she knew what 'blood libe'l meant. She has just never struck Me as that bright or well read.

She read a speech that someone else wrote who put the term in there, likewise, without knowing what it meant.

That person will either be unemployed tomorrow or get a promotion.

When you're trying to be oh so clever you should at least use real words.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 8:16:23 PM)

There is probably one person in this thread who knew the historical meaning of "blood libel" before some HuffPo nitwit made a stink about it. And if DomKen isnt in this thread then no one knew it.

Lucylastic -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 8:24:50 PM)

ooooh two tries, couldnt insult me in just one, I think I'm in love

Edited to add punctuation and lose an unneeded word

BKSir -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 8:29:47 PM)

As far as voices go, I don't think either party needs a "new voice", I think they both need to just shut the hell up, sit there and actually THINK (god forbid) for a year or two. They're all full of shit. Alas, this fellow seems like one of the more reasonable and moderate of the lying jerkoffs.

And Palin, with her "Blood Libel" gaffe... The woman can scarcely make it through "Fun With Dick and Jane" without the combination of complaining that they're not the perfect image of blond hair and blue eyes, and help from a tutor. I sincerely doubt that she had any clue what she was saying whilst reading the drivel that was prepared for her by some whack job.

charlestonscmilk -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 8:38:43 PM)

Willbeurdaddy, do you think everyone here is ignorant of Jewish/Christian history? Some of us went to University and some of us study religious history because we want to know more. I know most Christians are not well read on how we have tortured and libeled the Jews since time immemorial, but when i heard Ms Palin use that term today, I knew exactly what it meant and where it came from. I do believe that she was personally unaware of it's meaning but her speech writing staff should have googled the term and not used it.
As for the Repubican party needing a voice of sanity, our whole country needs a big dose of sanity followed by an even larger dose of civility and compassion.

quote:

"This is -- any threat of violence is terrible, but to say that there is a targeted district or that we 'reload' or go back in to the fight again, please...Those are fine. They're used all the time," he said, adding: "Those words have been used throughout of my political career. There are targeted districts, and there are areas that we call battleground states, and so please, that rhetoric and kind of language is just part of the political lexicon. There is no place for threats of violence or anything else, but to say that someone is in a battleground state is not originated today." Responding to Palin's rhetoric last year, Giffords herself told MSNBC's The Daily Rundown, that "the rhetoric is incredibly heated." Giffords - who is a gun owner and supporter of gun rights - went on to say: "The way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district, when people do that, they have got to realize there are consequences to that," she added.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3096434/#41049902, (rewriting Sara Palin's response), with a very sad video of the congresswoman foretelling her future.

As to Joe Scarborough, he irritates me, when I watch him, but I don't think he would be the worst choice for America.   I may actually vote for him instead of Obama next time, if he runs.    M

Wrong, fella.  I've known what it meant for decades.  And I'm kinda surprised that Palin used it.  There's no way she would have done so if she understood the proper use of the term.  I assume that some conservative screwed up in misusing the term (note that several came out with it all on the same day), and she was too arrogant to admit she just made an honest error.

I will confess that I didn't know what it meant until I looked it up. I agree with you, Steven, that if she (or more likely her speech writer or whoever came up with this week's list of "talking points") had the faintest clue as to its historical context, they would never have used it.

I think that, in general, a politician would get a lot more mileage out of a simple "I had no idea what it meant. I would never have used that phrase had I known. I'm very sorry." than a batch of attempts to spin your way out of something.

tazzygirl -> RE: Maybe the Republican party needs a voice of sanity? (1/12/2011 11:01:37 PM)

Would you not think that someone giving a speech would ask for the meaning of a word or phrase they were unsure of?

I'm afraid to see the list of things that do get caught and taken out.

Palin is very active, tweeting and writing stuff on her facebook regularly.  I suspect that she frequently is given something to say right before she says it.  Plus I get the feeling that her writers put a lot of stuff in her speeches that she doesn't understand.  She's not one for serious research.
