My thoughts on the subject

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Olberfurher ousted from MSNBC (1/21/2011 9:17:37 PM)

I think he received a better offer from ErrAmerica.

SexyBossyBBW -> RE: Olberfurher ousted from MSNBC (1/21/2011 9:25:46 PM)

Do you have an inside story not available to the rest of us, because ousted has not been said by either party.
Perhaps, because of the his company's recent marriage to comcast.
I would say the evidence points to his making the choice, since
quote:

His exit was so sudden that MSNBC didn't have time to change its ads; a "Lean Forward" promotion for the network featuring Olbermann aired within a half-hour of his final goodbye.

Keith is rich enough not to need a job he isn't content doing.   Is it better for conservatives that he's not doing countdown!   HELL YEAH!    He had to be painful to watch for you two above.
I wish him well, and respect him for having the courage to say what he means, and be fearless enough to basically say "F U to submitting to a 40Mil/year Master."    M

Say what he means? You apparently dont know his history. He says what he thinks will get him an audience, period. He couldnt beat Jim Rome at his game, so he rips off Rome's gig and moves it to politics. He's an obnoxious, empty suit.

Speaking of empty suits, you and your argument are both a little empty here.    I've never read about this Rome cornering the market on all political or liberal commentators?    If so, he should have trademarked it for all eternity.

Keith, refused to apologize for donating to democratic candidates, after he was suspended for "a whole day."    He had at the time, until he quit, this $40Mil dollar job.   I would say, he has far more substance than you any day Wilbur.    M

TheHeretic -> RE: Olberfurher ousted from MSNBC (1/21/2011 10:01:21 PM)

Na na na na,
na na na na,
hey hey hey
good bye

I suspect we haven't seen the last of him, but I can hope, right?

Estring -> RE: Olberfurher ousted from MSNBC (1/21/2011 10:17:16 PM)

Next stop, the new host of Family Feud!

TheHeretic -> RE: Olberfurher ousted from MSNBC (1/21/2011 10:25:55 PM)

Or maybe as the new commentator on one of those video clip shows. He could share a dressing room with Tonya Harding.

Its your knowledge thats a lot empty. KO was a sportscaster who tried to rip off the style of the top rated sportscaster in the country and couldnt do it. So he quit sports and went into politics, thinking he was clever enough to succeed there. His dismal audience proved him a failure once again.

Yes, I understand, strong personalities sometimes get fired.
His show was most certainly not  "a dismal failure?"   That would be your wishful thinking/delusions.     What you are dismissing as failure, is actually what real men do, when they insist on talking the talk, and walking the walk.    It's what separates a male from a man, but you wouldn't understand.      M

quote:

By SAM SCHECHNER Cable host Keith Olbermann and news channel MSNBC abruptly parted ways on Friday night, as the network announced it had agreed to end his contract and the last installment of his show would air that evening. The surprise announcement strips MSNBC of its most-watched evening anchor after an increasingly tempestuous relationship, coming less than three months after the network briefly suspended the fiery host
For the first decade or so of its existence, the cable news channel had only the vaguest of identities. Every few months, a new host or two would be tossed into the lineup, only to be shuffled around a few months later, and put out to pasture a few months after that. One day, Phil Donahue was the network’s prime-time face; the next it was Alan Keyes. Sometimes it seemed like the only programming MSNBC actually believed in was Don Imus’ tired minstrel show in the mornings and weird prison documentaries on the weekends. Meanwhile, the other cable news channel launched in 1996 was tearing it up in the ratings. From the very beginning, the Fox News Channel knew what it wanted to be. Rush Limbaugh had shown that there were millions of conservative Americans who were addicted to political news and commentary -- and who despised the traditional broadcast outlets (and also CNN). They weren’t looking for thoroughly reported investigative pieces or in-depth coverage of foreign affairs; they just wanted to hear about the latest Clinton scandal or the latest outrageous statement from some Democratic congressman. The programming they wanted was cheap to produce, and if you gave it to them, they’d be fanatically loyal. "Fair and balanced" was thusly born, and by the turn of the century, Fox was overtaking CNN – and leaving MSNBC in the dust. That’s where Olbermann came in. He had actually been part of MSNBC’s revolving door cast before, in 1997 and 1998. Back then, though, his prime-time broadcast, “The Big Show” (a nod to "SportsCenter," which he’d spent the previous five years co-anchoring with Dan Patrick), was as directionless as the network itself. Politics wasn’t always the focus and news was covered more from a general interest perspective. When the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke in early ’98, executives demanded that Olbermann build his show around it; they hoped it might legitimize MSNBC the way the Iran hostage crisis legitimized “Nightline” in 1979 and 1980. But Olbermann resisted and walked away, making his disgust well known. (This kind of exit is his trademark. After he left ESPN, an executive commented that, “He didn't burn bridges here. He napalmed them.")

joether -> RE: Keith Olberman quit MSNBC show! (1/22/2011 4:16:18 AM)

I really dont care what any of you think; I liked the guy. He did a really good job, each night on speaking of facts and news. Speaking to the audience, and treating them with maturity and intelligence. Much of his information came from vetting and good journalism skills (a very lost art in today's media). His 'Worst Person in the World' section usually had me laughing at utter direction people would go to bash, attack, or defend their idiot crap.

I'm sure the likes of Fox News is happy, since it'll be able to keep spewing out misinformation and out-right lies, without someone there to 'correct them'. And as such, also makes conservatives happy, since why should reality and facts get in the way of their retarded outlook on life?

It was disappointing to hear of his father's illness and death. You could tell the guy was seriously hurt by the lost. Even during that time, he pleaded with his audience to establish living wills, and said from experience, they are an invaluble framework, so that death is dignified. That could not have been easy to do.

DomKen -> RE: Keith Olberman quit MSNBC show! (1/22/2011 8:04:11 AM)

If he was fired rather than quitting it seems to have been a personality issue since the reshuffling of shows has resulted in Cenk Ungyar of the Young Turks getting a show.

And they did announce he was fired. The socialist demands on Comcast at least accomplished something.

And he is going to piss off the conservatives even more.

A charming and erudite farewell from an intelligent, charming and erudite man.

I would say I'll miss him, but I dare say he'll be picked up by another programme shortly. He's simply too good not to get a prime job somewhere.

Ciao Keith. All the best to you.

That's because you're really looking in the mirror, and not at my posts when you start laughing.
