CynthiaWVirginia -> RE: What's in comercial bug sprays like off, that moskito's don't like, and why don't they like it? (1/23/2011 4:04:54 AM)

Heya, Toppingfrmbottom. I don't use sprays unless it's on my clothing only and I am out fishing. In the fishing area of large stores, there are little ultrasonic devices (two of mine attach to a keychain if I wish) that are supposed to repel bugs. I have them but cannot remember when I last used them. I burn a citronella candle when we are playing Pokemon on our DS game players in the front yard. It takes about ten minutes for the mosquitoes to go away. One year I was lucky and found citronella insence (sp?) sticks, marketed for keeping mosquitoes away...it worked very well. I lived in an apartment building that had no screens. If I put in screens, they blew out so I gave up. The window I left open except for bitter cold winter weather was the bathroom one that opened out onto the balcony...I plugged into the wall one of those ultrasonic pest repellers. It was supposed to repel mice, rats, and mosquitoes. Mice were never a problem, as I had cats living with me, lol. I cannot remember mosquito bites being a problem. What puzzles me is why they don't sell anti-static dryer sheets that are impregnated with citronella. It would be convenient. Also, Skin So Soft by Avon repels mosquitoes. I still remember that disgusting feel of having myself sprayed from head to toe while I squenched my eyes shut, when I was out in the countryside with my dad. Blech.
