Kaliko -> Junky Salad (1/23/2011 9:48:01 AM)

For those of you who eat big plates of salad topped with just about everything, what is your favorite junky salad?

Since I'm no longer vegan - or even vegetarian - (for the moment, anyway - temporary insanity) - I am right now basking in the voluptuousness of romaine and spinach topped with salmon, cheddar cheese, croutons and ranch dressing. Would love to add a sliced hard boiled egg.

.........and banana peppers!

SorceressJ -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 10:02:40 AM)

Olives (black and/or green), and cherry tomatoes, sliced fine. Almond slivers.

DarkSteven -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 10:02:48 AM)

Lettuce, artichoke hearts, beets, baby corn, jicama, corn, bleu cheese or feta, and green goddess dressing.

Fruit salad is wonderful, but I don't think that's what you're asking.

I like romaine, tomatoes, a quarter avocado, and some canned beets, topped with tuna,  salmon, or grilled southwestern chicken strips.  Dressing is two teaspoons of olive oil and a tablespoon of tarragon vinegar.

On top of My salad, I'd like a rare ribeye please.

LadyPact -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 10:13:08 AM)

My salads are absolutely not health food.  It's not a real salad until there is chicken, shredded cheese, and hard boiled egg included.  Yes, I can be perfectly content with a big chef's salad on the plate for dinner, but there's got to be more than just greens in there.

I soooooo love salads!!! But no iceberg! [:'(]

I like to put meats, cheeses & fruits & nuts on my salads. I love bacon bits & goat feta. Dried fruits or fresh berries are always good. Adore pecans & walnuts on them. Black olives too. I don't like a lot of dressing on my salads, so I will either just lightly drizzle something or use the spray-on kind.

Mmmmmm, now I'm hungry!!!

Chef's salad with spring mix, boiled egg and bits of real bacon (Bits of Bacon is artificial crap).  Blue Cheese or ranch dressing.

soul2share -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 9:03:00 PM)

Iceberg lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, croutons and ranch dressing.  No onions....ewwwwww!  Lots and lots of extra veggies, but the only lettuce I eat in salads is iceberg.  Growing up, salads were a part of every supper.  You can still go to my mom's house and find a big bowl of salad in the fridge.  I loves me some salad!!!!!

igor2003 -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 9:20:01 PM)

Iceberg lettuce, onion, tomato, cucumber, garbanzo and/or red beans, sprouts if available, ranch dressing, with cheddar cheese...and no salad is complete if it doesn't have lots of sunflower seeds on top.  Also croûtons if there is any room left on the plate/bowl.

littlewonder -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 9:29:37 PM)

spinach, feta cheese, cranberries, walnuts, pomegranete seeds with a light balsamic vinegraette.

Zevar -> RE: Junky Salad (1/23/2011 9:40:06 PM)

My version of a Junky Salad is Fresh Spring Greens and Red Leaf Lettuce mixed with the following:

Alfalfa Sprouts, Red Onion, English Cucumber, Black Olives, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Red Bell Pepper, Garbanzo Beans, Banana Peppers, Baby Button Mushrooms, Dried Cranberries, Mandarin Oranges, English Walnuts, Sunflower Seeds, Italian Vinaigrette with Crumbled Bleu Cheese mixed liberally throughout the salad. Served with Fresh baked Whole Wheat Raisin Rolls and Irish Butter.

Take Care!

this works for me, but substitute diced ham for the croutons.. and soak it with the ranch dressing!

Back in Canton, Ohio, there is a restaurant on Cleveland Avenue called Hog Heaven (Harley theme) and they have a salad there, basic greens, tomato, etc., topped with their awesome BBQ beef rib tips and french fries. I think they call it the Quaker Steak salad, or something like that. Not exactly a diet or vegan salad, but it's pure heaven.

LaTigresse -> RE: Junky Salad (1/24/2011 10:47:50 AM)

Mmmmmmmmmm salaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

It is easier to type what I wouldn't have on, or in, a salad.

Iceberg lettuce
Onions
Green peppers
Pickles
Radishes
Fake anything.....ie cheese, bacon, etc
