Both sides call each other nazis. Liberals tend to do it more often and not just in the media. I've had liberal professors spew their hatred in class. Unacceptable.

Unfortunately, Fox hasn't found a JS counterpart to point it out in a way that's as funny. I'd like to see them ALL get back to journalism, removing as much bias as they can. Let's hear some news that means something without all the editorials, tyvm.

You're missing the point here. He wasn't pointing out all of the Nazi references to say "Hey! Look what they're doing!" It was Megyn Kelly's assertion that they don't happen on Fox. And he had JUST roasted a democrat for doing it Congress.

Also, please keep in mind that there's a reason he called it News news. Because people from all walks of life, college professors, protesters, etc. Are liable to say anything, but this was a journalist asserting something that was not true.

Here, I bolded the part about journalism for you so you'll see it this time. My point was that Megyn Kelly isn't the only "journalist" with an agenda. Nor is Fox the only network with one.

I assume you're speaking of Fox's constant use of nazi references to describe their political opponents, right?

Doesnt happen, as much as JS would like you to believe it does.

Now it doesn't happen as much as anyone thinks, lol.  Weren't you just claiming on another thread it never happens?

No.

I assume you're speaking of Fox's constant use of nazi references to describe their political opponents, right? Otherwise do you see the irony in accusing the left of being uncivil for pointing out the nazi-smears? Also, what point were you making about the dates? Some of them were old, some were new, one was 3 1/2 hours after Megyn's claim. The point being not only does Fox do it, they've done so for years...

Say what you want about Megyn Kelly, she's usually smarter than that. But seriously, how can she watch as much as she says she does and not know that?

Well, having to pull clips from several years ago to make your point about something that supposedly happens 24/7 does not seem like a very good argument to me.  And the clip that came from 3.5 hours later involved a discussion about that interview.

The Nazi's, Hitler, Goebbels, and the Holocaust are all events that people are readily familiar with.  Which is why I think that people tend to use those rather than Pol Pot, Nikola Jorgic, Mao, Stalin, Khemer Rouge, and Kim Jong Il, to name a few.  The Nazi's were OUR villain.  These other folks that I listed have more readily been other people's villain.

So, no, I do not think that you can consider this as much of a "bitch-slap" as you are claiming if you look at it critically.

While we are on the subject of smears, you do realize that "bitch-slap" is a misogynistic term.  It promotes the idea that women are less than fully human and promotes violence against women.  I mean this in the nicest way possible so that you are fully aware of the words that you are choosing to use.

To begin, what difference does it make how old the clip is?

She made the claim and either she has a poor memory or she was lying.

The other clip of hers was just from last March and Ailes comments were from November.

Because by saying, "constantly" or "24/7" you are implying that it happens pretty much on every show on every day.  But three clips in the last 12 months is not the same as "constantly."  (Or 4 clips as I do not remember the date stamp on the Glenn Beck clip ~ the clip that I thought was really strange.  I have never heard him speak before, I don't think anyways.)

Anyways, every 3 to 4 months just does not qualify as constant for me.  I give my toddler popcorn that often and I would not classify it as constant.

I would not say that it never happens.  I am just saying that it is not something that is constant.  I also do not watch news programs that often because of said toddler.

Aylee, of course the left never "exagerates."

Look at Senator Scott Brown who is a Lt. Col in the National Guard and Airbourne qualified and what that piss-ant Comrade Keith Oberfuherer said about him.
I'd like to see one of Senator Brown's daughter's run into that monkey and beat the living crap out of him. lol

Popeye, you have done it quite often, so why do you think it makes a difference.

By the way, the signs carried by tea partiers showing Obama with a Hitler mustache dont count I take it?

I really doubt that. If they where familiar with the matter, there would be a lot less of those completely ridiculous comparisons.

And conflating Nazi analogy with communist slang, as he has insisted upon doing during the last days, is absolutely moronic.

People who point out hypocrisy in others' words are just nazi propagandists.

Duh.

There have been so many WW2 movies made that, yes, most Americans are familiar with those events/people.  Not necessarily with the specific ideologies, philosophies, and acts, but with the general cultural memes and imagery.

Moonhead -> RE: Jon Stewart bitchslaps Fox with their own hypocrisy aGAIN! (1/26/2011 2:16:03 PM)

No argument with that, but out of the others you named, I'd question that Hitler is more of a bogeyman for most of America than Stalin. There's a tradition of manly American fascistm (some of which has been romanticised in hindsight), and the McCarthy HUAC hysteria was a lot more recent than the war as well.

I know, even though Senator McCarthy was correct, Uncle Joe was still our buddy.

So was Commander Reichsfuherer, or so he thought.
Seems to be the new thing to do out in far left land; "Ouuu, look at ME!" "I just attacked Fox News, I have balls!"

No, one just has to be a real fool to watch Fox News...and believe anything they hear or see.

::facepalm:: Aylee.. TexasRogue.. This really isn't that hard guys. Ok, let's take it from the top shall we?

Again, nowhere did Jon Stewart say it happens constantly, or 24/7. Neither he, nor I made that claim. What he's saying is that it happens, which is the opposite of what Megyn Kelly claims.

Also, there's a BIG difference between bringing up something that happened in 2005, and bringing up something that's been happening since 2005. Keep in mind that that he didn't use EVERY instance of it. If he did, he would have referenced Louis Black's observation on Glenn Beck's Nazi Obsession here:

That is irrelevant. The question is not how useful the Nazi reference is, but whether it's being used.

Now THAT is a completely different debate, and I don't want to get distracted.

Nobody's even talking about what Megyn Kelly's, or Jon Stewart's, or anyone elses agenda is. The point is that she's got her facts wrong.

I think you know that Jon Stewart nailed her on that, and you're trying to broaden the argument enough for you to have some kind of defense. Because if you look at what she said, and his response, the fact is, the Right lost this one. You KNOW that. It's ok to admit it..

Remember that whole "Aqua Buddha" thing when Rand Paul ran? The Left lost that one. I can admit that. It was stupid, and the democrat deserved to pay the price he did.

Sometimes, people are just wrong!

But...that's exactly the problem with this sort of rhetoric. It's not a genuine criticism or comparison, it's simply saying - They are the villain.

I'm sorry but I don't think creating a paradigm where the opponent is "the villain" rather than "the opposing viewpoint" is healthy. If your defense of the use of Nazi terminology boils down to "it's the simplest and easiest way to demonstrate the opponent is a villain" that's no defense at all.

Constant, constantly, you know what the difference is, right?  Hint: one is a noun or adjective, the other is an adverb.
