Steponme73 -> Obama's snubbed (1/25/2011 6:01:30 PM)

Has anyone heard about the Obama's not being invited to the Royal wedding in April? I got an email but have not been able to confirm it.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/25/2011 7:18:51 PM)

He was not invited to Cherlses wedding either.  Maybe they already have a doorman.

Whatever looks good for the happy couple.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/25/2011 8:44:13 PM)

Yes. That is a big snub. Clearly, the Obama administration's dismissal of the "special relationship" with UK has been heard.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/25/2011 10:37:41 PM)

I am sure that this has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Yeah, right, cowboy Bob, like you're the type of bloke who really Hoovers up every gossipy Fleet Street word.

MercTech -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/26/2011 2:36:47 AM)

Why would Obama be invited to a royal wedding? The wedding is for the royal couple and an internal matter to the country. Inviting foreign heads of state would distract from the event. The U.S. sould be sufficiently represented by our ambassador.

Good grief, let them have a wedding and not a U.N. meeting.

"Gaffe" strikes me as an overly generous description of what was clearly a calculated slight. He's made a few comments whining about his grandfather being questioned during the Mau Mau suppressions in Kenya, hasn't he?

I'm pretty sure your little right wing propaganda page has it a bit wrong, first of all as had been said many many times (maybe you need to read it a few more times for it to sink in) the wedding is not a political affair. Want me to say it again? Wedding of Prince - not a political affair. Got it now?

As for the "whole British press up in arms" as your little right wing site claims, when did that happen? I happen to live here and follow the news, how come such a little nugget would have escaped me completely?

What is making a bit of waves is the stupidity of Tea Bagers, no surprise there, but little nuggets like THIS kinda amuse Britain right now, we might not always have the best politicians, but at least most of them didn't skip history lessons completely...

Steponme73 -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/26/2011 7:03:53 AM)

It just strikes me odd that other heads of state are invited and ours is not. That I care one way or the other. I don't like Obama and I could care less about the "Royal couple". That is a British thing and I am sure t it will happen just fine without us.

pahunkboy -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/26/2011 7:06:08 AM)

Well the Brits burned down the White House.  So- it all makes sense.

How do you know?

While Buckingham Palace did not reveal the recipients of the save- the-date notices, some of those contacted have been quick to express public delight at the royal invitation.

......

Unconfirmed reports have listed US President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, and France's President, Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, among the invitees.

Dunno if we got to make a big deal out of the fact that the British PM was not invited to Brangelina's wedding...

Tons of rumors that the Obamas and the Beckhams are going to be invited it seems, I can just see the thrilling conversations that will be had with the Beckhams - I guess it's a "Royalty meets Chavs, a brave new world" theme

http://swns.com/david-and-victoria-beckham-on-prince-william-and-kate-middletons-wedding-guestlist-291031.html

quote:

Others rumoured to be receiving invites to the nuptials on April 29 next year include the Obamas, Sir Paul Mcartney and Sir Elton John. The official list is expected to be announced in February after Wills and Kate have received RSVPs.

Prince William is also planning to invite hundreds of ordinary people from different walks of life, according to reports. Terminally ill children, the homeless and servicemen could be among those invited if the plans go ahead.

So far nobody has a clue if or if not they were invited, the Palace doesn't publish the list of people being invited, once they got the RSVPs, they might publish the guest list, but that's about it...

Naw.  I am sure that what they are upset about is that we still have Winnie-the-Pooh.

pahunkboy -> RE: Obama's snubbed (1/26/2011 11:23:41 AM)

The happy couple should elope and save the country the agony of the the expense.  The UK is dreadfully broke.  They are selling the remaining forests and are unable to clean up after snow- the education is in shambles.  People are fleeing there for a better life.

Actually, I didn't even notice what site it was on.  I simply remembered that rather tasteless gift and pulled the first Google hit.  I first heard about it, at the time it occurred, on another site where about 5% of the participants are British and were a bit miffed.  The Canadians (20%) and non-British Europeans (5%) on the site mostly laughed.  Me?  I was just embarrassed.

So if you don't like the link I picked at random, how about some UK links: Daily Mail, The Guardian. There are many on the BBC website, but all under blogs, so I have ignored them.

There was also a wonderful gift for the Queen (Telegraph)

I have no idea whether these are reputable news outlets or not.  I am merely pointing out that it was, indeed, reported in the UK.

As for my "little right wing site.....blah, blah, blah" - that site had nothing to do with the marriage, it had to do with Obama's gift.  However, if you believe that the wedding of a prince is not a political affair you are sadly mistaken.

Your response to me shows both ad-hominem and argument from repitition.  You can find definitions of those here.  The ad-hominem is especially humorous as you have no idea of my politics whatsoever, seeing as I have never posted anything remotely political here in the past and the one thing I did post was merely a snarky comment.  So, out of curiosity, precisely what history lessons are you alluding to?

One thing is for sure, they're not fleeing to the US... And you should try education, honestly, it won't hurt you!
