I think it's been suggested that mistaking a high wind for keening might have been brought on by the DTs in a few cases. Mind you, these were English Victorian sociologists (or anthropologists, or whatever they had back then), so they may not have had a fair attitude towards the Irish they were investigating. More racism, perhaps?
