Just curious - I've recently noticed when checking my sent mail that one or two mails have been 'deleted unread'. These are not pestering mails being sent to people who have previously declined to answer, but first time ones to people I've not contacted before, and whom generally seem to be looking for the same kind of thing as me. I'm just a touch puzzled - why would anyone bother to do this? If you don't at least open a mail and glance at it, how do you know if its something or someone you might want to respond to?

Hmm, well I can say that I will definitely delete unread any mail that comes from someone with a chosen pseudonym that is purely sexual in nature - say, umm...ohhh something like 'fucksuckwhore.'

All that to say, it could just be they were put off by your screen name. There's a lot of other reaasons, but that is the one that stands out most as a reason your first impression isn't being widely embraced.

Well, fer starters you are now on a more proper side of the site. That being said, this is more of the market for fem /s' but your odds are still very high being a male /s. After perving your profile it looks a little more do-me than service orientated. I would rewrite it to be a lil more concise about what your looking for, but leave it a lil more flexible and obedient for the D/ to instruct you. Be thorough in choosing your likes and dislikes, but don't write the script of your expectations.

Lastly, if you are looking for a purely sexual encounter... or in your case to be denied that, be very upfront about it. If you are looking for a LTR be very upfront about that and what you have to contribute to the dynamic in terms of service.

YMMV

I would echo what Winsome said. The amount of crap emails anyone gets is amazing, for single people it is even more so. To save time they may just see the profile name it is from and think it is not what he or she would be looking for.

There could be any number of reasons. I usually find that there are those who are only looking for something very specific to them, and mere color of your profile handle may exclude you. For the moment, I have found that if you scroll over the users name in the received mail folder, the first few lines of the letter is visable, and that may be enough for them to simply delete it altogether. Some users get pages of new mail in their folders in a couple of hours and there is simply not enough time to read all of them, muchless do a any type of response. While it may be puzzling, don't be put off. If they were not going to take the time to read your letter, they probably would not take the time to get to know you. Shrug it off and continue to be proactive and put yourself out there.
BTW, new members who are perceived to be complaining about how things work around here often get flamed quickly. That too is simply life on the boards. Don't take it too personal! Welcome to the site.

Second on the handle issue.

If your mail lands in my or our couple's profile mailbox, I'd delete unread based on the handle alone and (seeing that you're apparently looking for men) my husband would probably do the same if it landed in his.

Something that you may not be aware of is this great mail feature that we have here.  It allows the receiver to hover the cursor over any incoming mail and read the beginning of the message before even opening the mail.  If the recipient doesn't like the beginning of the email, they can delete it without having to open it.

For general info, I'll be very honest with you.  If you wrote to Me with that screen name, I'd be inclined to delete it unread.  The only reason that I might open in would be if I were reporting the message for spam.

Greetings fucksuckwhore,

I find it odd that you're puzzled why anyone would delete unsolicited messages. I'm guilty of doing the same on this site and in my private account. Most people are besieged with unwanted notes. Why would their approach differ here than elsewhere? I'm willing to bet you don't apply the same attitude towards spam and other helpful items in your inbox that you didn't request. Nor should you assume that you can dictate how your recipients should manage theirs.

Namaste,

~porcelaine

Too young/too old/too far away/too stupid a user name*/Recipient too inundated with offers/etc.

As an initial guess you understand, but that was only 5 seconds thought. I could mull it over a bit if you think that'd help? ;)

Happens to me sometimes too, and I'm perfect, so what it's like for mere mortals I have no idea.

ETA: *I'm not saying anything about your user name, just that that could be a reason for other people with stupid user names, that's all.

Well, you can hover over the sender's name and read at least the first line, so maybe they don't like your sample. Or it could be your screen name. I wouldn't open a mail from "fucksuckwhore" either.

The only reason I wouldn't delete it unread would be that I spaced off the above option. I don't care what the colour of the font of the name.........the name alone would kill my interest.

But their real name might be Mr/s Fucksuckwhore, of the Long Island Fucksuckwhores.

There's also the Hampshire Fucksuckwhores, IIRC, but they don't get out much.

For one, change the nick. Pick something much nicer, like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benedict Arnold or Charlie Manson.

If you send us a sample first contact email, we'll critique it. Don't include any identifiers but do say whether you are sending it to a man or couple.

Most people with an ounce of class and dignity would simply not choose to open an email from someone named "fucksuckwhore", *even if they enjoyed such dynamics in a scene*.  You're clearly focused quite unilaterally on your own cock and the specific scene that gets you hot, and that's not an attractive focus for someone who claims to want a 24/7 D/s relationship.

Try getting to know people a bit first while being open about your preferences, but not shoving it in their face. And I mean either literally or figuratively.  Class, dignity, tact and paying attention to other people's boundaries will usually get you farther than crudity, unless quickies with horny guys are all you're looking for.

The new hover mail feature is great; it allows you to quickly scan so many emails and yes, delete unread.

It is not so much the screen name (which is just annoying) but more about the inappropriate emails one gets.
