The post on martial arts brought another query to My mind.
How many of the folks on here also participate in some form
of extreme sports, such as: motocross, bungee jumping, or
rock climbing?
 
Or have an occupation that involves high-risk behavior,
such as: firefighting, search and rescue or special military ops?
 
And do Y/you fall on the masochistic or sadistic side?
Are Y/you a Dom/me, switch or sub/slave?

Status: offline 		When I was younger I used to go pot holing and deep caving. A bit stupid really because I would spend the week down a coal mine and weekends and holidays in a cave. I keep promising myself to take it up again when I get the time. I also used to be a member of the mines rescue team. I wouldn't join the military (too old now anyway) not because I have anything against the military, I just refuse to be used by some fuck brained politician after the popular vote or oil or some other damn shallow self engrandising cause.

Is "deep caving" the same as "spelunking"? (sp)?

Status: offline 		Chris and I both enjoy sky diving and rock climbing. Most would say that I am the risk taker though.
I only work part time right now and it's in the most boring kind of area you could imagine :) Research.
As for what side I fall on. I am a pain slut all the way. The more pain, the better it is. In addition to this, I do not identify as a submissive, slave or switch. Just a bottom.

Yes but I've never used that term, pot holing is just another term too but I think of it more as using less equipement and not going as deep but I'm sure there are other cavers that would argue with me on that point.

In my career (unrelated to kink) I've worked pretty closely with about a half dozen professional extreme athletes (x-games guys, vert skateboarders, BMX) and while I never flat out ask people if they are kinky, I have pretty good "gaydar" type kink-senses.When I was single, I was more up front about it and can safely say none of the x-guys then seemed that interested in kink.  Which probably means nothing because it's a sample size of just a few; however, across the same sample size of non-extreme sports guys there was more of an interest in kink (at least based on casual conversations).

Could mean nothing at all, but I found it interesting. Another thing I have found in my personal experience is that athletes who are trained or experienced in enduring pain are WAY more sensitive to it when it's not in their control.  A guy who can endure getting stitches with no novacaine is still a wuss when it comes to getting spanked or having his hair pulled hard.  Again, might have been a skewed sample, but all the tough guys I have known have been big babies. In a fun way, of course.

Status: offline 		As already stated, we both enjoy rock climbing, sky diving, etc. Tikk is the risk taker though. She seems to find enjoyment in testing the limits. Our last jump she held off opening her chute to see how much of a difference in landing it would make ( I will never understand her thinking on that one ).
My occupation could be classified as high risk, depending on how you looked at it. In addition to this, I am also part of SAR here in Texas.
For the rest of the question: I am a sadist and a top.

I have raced motorcycles since i was twelve years old. I race harescrambles(this is like motorcross only through the rocks and trees), i ice race (600 to1200 diamond cut metal screws in each tire allowing the motorcycle to run on the ice), enduros, and indoor and outdoor flat track. I also cruise on the street.

Status: offline 		 For 7 years I worked as an EMT in the inner city, did FRAC's with an oil feild company during H2S (hydragen sulphide) blow-outs we all had to wear breathing gear and  fire retardant suits. I'm behind the desk now as an emergency control operator and we call answer to over a million people. Tought motorcycle safety ( I own a ZX600 Kawasaki Ninja) toured most of the US mid-west and west coast on it

For the longest time I would define myself by my career, it was more of a personal descriptor. If I wasn't going a hundred miles an hour with my hair on fire (metaphoracly speaking here) I wasn't happy.

Does fencing count as high risk??  How about  challenging your Top to a duel, I think that one fell into the high risk catagory not to mention the 'that was really stupid' catagory *s*


Rob is more the risk taker, rock climbing, bungee jumping endurance mororcycle racing, martial arts. For these I just wait by the sidelines with the first aide kit

Other than the switch part, I'm right there with you.  But scary rides to a point.  I rode the Big Shot in Vegas and almost died.  Yes, I'm being dramatic....I hated it!!!

I love adrenaline and I am definitely into hiking and mountain climbing for these reasons. I am a submissive and I am a masochist (exercising for endorphins is the only way to fly when you are doing it solo...lol).

I am curious as to whether there is a correlation between risk-taking behavior
in sports and the like and an attraction to kink.  Also, if that is the case,
does the person fall on the masochistic or sadistic side?  Are they Dom/me
switch or sub?

Status: offline 		I'm somewhat of an adrenalin junkie, but I can stop anytime I want to - honest!    We get to practise our martial arts on each other, which is fun.  We are both into gliding (engineless flight etc) and rockclimbing.  I love skydiving, which he just cannot stand - says he's afraid of heights, go figure...

Seriously, though, I used to go spelunking, rock climbing, repelling.  Now it's pretty much just ghost hunting and camping for kicks.

I'm a masochist and a sadist by the way.  I dish it out with the best of 'em, but I know how to take it, too.

Status: offline 		I would have to say that i am addicted to going fast. I race Downhill Mountain bikes for my living right now. I am in college right now and I race all summer long. I definitely would try anything to get an adrenaline rush. In a few of my races I took a few diggers and dislocated my shoulder each time. I couldn't feel it because of the adrenaline rush, but after that wore off I was in a world of hurt. I am pretty lucky to be able to say that my hobby is also the way I make money for the year, cause i can pull in 25,000 in a summer before travel expenses and stuff from racing. So i guess that in my case the extreme sport is not related to my kinks really.

Pot holing makes me think of a bunch of old hillbillies sitting around a pot hole filled with water trying to fish with reed poles and some thread. "Hey Jed pass me some of that there bait I think we may catch some tadpoles yet."
