As a mother of a healthy baby I made a conscious decision to feed my son a good nutritious and as natural as possible diet. Fresh fruit and vegetables, decent meat and plenty of dairy products. He really couldn't of had a better diet, or so I thought. By the age of 6 he wasn't growing and was a good 8 inches shorter than his piers. By the age of 10 I was concerned enough to have a bone density test done on him. It turned out he had rickets and I was told by the specialist that she was seeing more and more of this and blamed it on the modern way of eating. I don't think she believed me when I told her that my son didn't eat the modern way. When my next son came along he was a prem baby and grew to be the worlds fussiest eater. We tried giving him what I believed to be a good diet but in pure frustration we ended up allowing this child to eat what he wanted just to get food in his stomach. He ate what I considered junk and by the age of 10 he stood a head taller in height than all of his piers. By 15 he was 6ft tall and now at 18 he is 6ft 3inches. When he refused to eat 'good food' was he actually telling us that his little body wasn't getting enough nutrients? I have a friend that fine tunes her childrens diets. Absolutely no junk. Her home is all about healthy eating. Both her children are very small for their age and the eldest one has some bone deformities. Now I wouldn't suggest that we feed our children too much junk but just how good is a natural healthy diet really? The "modern" way of feeding children is to strictly control their diets. There are parents who insist on feeding their children a strictly vegan diet... and its lead to malnutrition and death. Kids dont need the same diet as adults. Growing bodies, high metabolism, over-active brain cells... all require a different diet, one thats high in fat and sugar (body runs on fat, brain on sugar, in a simplistic sense). Even salt is a requirement.
