Sure... it's clearly a complicated situation, and final decisions at the level of POTUS are, I'm sure, influenced if not dictated by reams of classified intelligence about which none of us have a clue. Still... civilian trials, Gitmo releases, Hasan, rights to the Christmas day bomber, Iran, Egypt, first television interview, NASA outreach (one of my alltime WTFs), scores of other things great and small.... there's not a pattern there?

A reasonable post. Thanks. He's moving ahead with military tribunals, so Constitutional concerns over those evidently weren't/aren't behind the push for civilian trials....

As long as the producers are willing to sell at market-determined prices, any increase in supply reduces price. Specifically discussing oil, if PEMEX (or anyone else) produces a million barrels per day at a cost of a billion dollars per barrel and puts them into the market currently paying around $100 a barrel... PEMEX loses money, and the increase in supply reduces price.

No, it was not what was driving them, but the obnoxious vox populi was against civilian trials, so---- And it never, ever (insofar as I know) a concern that military tribunals were not Constituional (cuz the form and manner of trials are left up to the Senate (isn't it) in the US constituion)? I think it was a matter of world opinion that America has one of the fairest civilian trial systems in the world and military trials are known to be somewhat rigged, and it was more a matter of showing the world that our constitution withtands this, and these are not simply 'vengance' show trials. But again..........

Moon was bragging about his ignorance of what kind of regiems exist in the Mid East. Of course real democratic Socialism doesn't (and never has nor will) exist. And of course there are marxist and facist Islamic States meeting the requirement of 2 of the symbols from the silly poster.

I think you're entirely right about his sensitivity to his perception of world opinion. I wold love to hear him espouse on the RR statement that it's good to be liked but better to be respected. And I think he'd say that it's far too easy for respect to turn to fear....
