Why would any Dom or Master make their s/s sleep on the floor? I do not understand this concept. If in a poly and one slept on the floor..still would not make much sense to me...just get a bigger bed...

It's not my thing either.  But it sure would reinforce a slave/sub mindset.  It's not about the room in the bed - it's about the s sleeping on the floor.

As for me, I like having someone next to me in bed, and I want her at peak form next day after a good rest.

We don't have the type of poly relationship where everyone is considered the same in authority.  In our house, clip does sleep on the floor on a mattress that is basically for him.  It is one of the terms of the agreement that MP and I made when we chose to be poly.  That our bedroom is our sanctuary and submissives do not come in.  If we're traveling (hotel, etc) clip is permitted to ask if he is allowed to sleep in the bed with Me.  (Basically Me in the middle with males on each side.)

Do you understand now?

Because they want to.

Not that hard to understand really.

I like to be practical in this lifestyle, and for me, sleeping on the floor would cripple me, literally. And as one man here said, he wants her to be well rested, and I don't think anyone gets a good rest sleeping on the floor without proper support.

Why can't you just give him/her their own room?

Puts me in mind of the Dom making the slave sleep naked in a cold hard cell. Just what I need! A bad back and pneumonia!

When I was in Costa Rica the mattress was inadequate. I don't think I slept well the whole two months. After a short period of sleep deprivation, I lost my joie de vivre, appetite, eventually 20#, and lapsed into a depression. I returned to NY a month early, in February.

Interestingly, there was another woman there who slept directly on the floor by choice with no ill effects.

Sleeping on the floor would be a hard limit for me. Sleeping on my latex mattress on the floor would be fine, and probably preferable, as I am such a light sleeper even the movement of my cat can wake me up.

Now, how do I get the cat to sleep on the floor? And to stop thinking that if I roll over, I'm awake and available for petting?

There is not a single legitimate reason for me to ever sleep on a floor when a bed is available. I don't think that I have ever met a man who would want that with me.

I understand that it is a preference for some Doms...but the question is...why?

I know that some people that have been here for years and love to bring up that a post is an old thread from years ago...here is the thing about that...there are many people on here now that weren't on years ago. Some people have no desire to read through pages of old post asking people their opinions or why they do something only getting answers from those who are not even relevant or on here anymore. Not being an ass...just saying I thank you to all those that have replied thank you.

The deal with old threads is there are times that you might get additional info.  Just like you haven't been here for years and years, OP, not everyone who was once here is here still.  Sometimes, you can find additional information in an old thread that you might not find in the answers from today.  Some folks will be interested in as many answers as possible to a question so they can get as much information as possible.

Why? It reinforces the fact that the slave has no rights, only indulgences granted by the owner. That includes all ordinary human things we take for granted such as privacy while in the bathroom, being able to eat at the table, being able to sit on a couch to watch tv, sleeping in a bed, dressing in the clothes of their choice, etc.

For me, it would cause distance in the relationship. If I was physically pushed away from him, I will respond by withdrawing emotionally. But because it doesn't work for me does not mean that it does not work for anyone.

Something like "sleeping on the floor" is symbolic. So now what you're asking is "why is a symbol a symbol." There is no answer to that... at least no commonly accepted one. Each couple places meaning into their own symbols. Why do I have Carol wear a collar? What's that piece of steel around her neck got to do with her being mine? I dunno. But it's meaningful to me... and apparently her to despite all her weeping and gnashing of teeth about it.

because he can??

Because I may not be worthy of sleeping next to him for a punishment reason....

He may want to get the point across that the bed is his and not mine and a slaves sleeps wherever he wants his slave to sleep...

He is in the mood to objectify me as less than human.....

I'm sure there are other reasons

Reading these responses, i realize that MASTERS & or MISTRESSES are also THEIR slave's , lover, husband, wife, etc. When i was an owned slave, i was just that, a slave. i was never going to be the lover, partner, or whatever of my MASTERS, i was going to be THEIR slave.

i guess i was fortunate that i had no trouble sleeping on the floor. It had carpet, i was allowed a pillow and blanket, and slept without any trouble. As i said, this seemed perfectly natural for me as a slave

This reminds me of a prude I once met. She said basically the same thing, except replace "sleep on a floor when a bed is available" with 'be spanked by my husband". Note that she met me and never knew that I would want to spank her if I was her husband.

Some people are turned on by pain. Some people are turned on by submission/dominance. It is not about "legitimate reasons', it is about what turns people on.

Sleeping on the floor is a painful ritual that clearly and visibly signifies dominance.

Similarly, some people enjoy keeping human 'pets' in cages with dog bowls, etc.

You probably have met those people and have not known it.

For those of you with medical concerns, some people are younger, fitter, and healthier than others. For approximately 300,000 years humans slept on cave floors, which were probably a LOT less comfortable than the shag carpet in my bedroom. Your complaints about health and comfort fall on deaf ears. You personally may not be healthy enough to sleep on a carpet, but there are lots of young, healthy people out there that can handle it fine.

I personally prefer to sleep with my hands on sub. So that means they are in my bed.

But I do know someone that has their sub sleep in a cage at the foot of their bed. The cage has a 'dog bed' in there - that is sometimes removed when the 'pet' is bad.
