I usually end up doing the menu planning, however, I am more than open to requests and I love learning new dishes. My signature dish is definetly my chili, very thick, meaty, and just the right amount of back-end heat lol.

Potroast is always a hit with men.

Put a chuck roast in a crockpot, add small peeled potatoes, carrots, onions, celery stalks, a tblsp each of flour, Brown and Serve and Worchestershire, 4 beef boullin cubes and cook on high for about 8 hours. Remove the celery and serve with bread or rolls. Simple yet everybody loves it.

Oh yes....I do a pork roast too....but I use cream of mushroom gravy instead of broth.  I do the veggies seperate tho.

I use broth instead of water and boullion.....and I'll add some Lipton's french onion soup......damn...now I'm hungry!

I also do a mean pot of chili, and killer spaghetti sauce.  I love to cook, and I'll do it for anyone who lets me!  Cooking for one sux big time!  I love to experiment in the kitchen with spices and stuff.  I found Ken's Asian Ginger or maybe it's Asian sesame salad dressing that makes a great marinade!  I use it on chicken and fish.

i love making chilis and pasta sauces too ^_^
i've also done roasts with veggies separate, or made a meat roast for meat eaters, and a veggie roast for myself.

We cook in turns...but we discuss what we eat.
Mostly the one who proposes something...makes it.
I admit I like cooking..it relaxes me. But she mostly does the table and serving...she likes to do that.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 8:35:30 AM)

to everyone -- do you prefer gas stoves or electric ones? what's your reasoning?
i'm getting to know my gas stove and not sure what i think of it yet. =p

TotalDiscipline - setting tables and dishing up food is definitely enjoyable ^_^

TotalDiscipline -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 8:58:05 AM)

I like gass for most.......but hot air can be nice too.
ELectric I hardly use.

Yes she serving me food...making my bread for breakfast..heavenly feeling. [:)]

I don't currently have one, but as soon as we buy a house I'll put in induction...

It's the feeling of cooking on gas, with the convenience and easy clean up and the sleek look of electric.

My mom has one, and it can get a bowl of water for making pasta boiling in under 60 seconds as well as be easily and instantly turned down to a slight simmer.

It's safe for the kids, seeing that the plates don't get hot, and you can touch them with your hand without burning even if the burners are turned on (which is important considering that we've got a 2 and a 4 year old around).

TotalDiscipline -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 1:17:57 PM)

Induction can be nice indeed. Just sucks if you don't have the right pans..and need to buy new ones.
( although there are adaptor thingies)

Ishtarr -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 1:32:13 PM)

I never understood why people would make a fuzz about the relatively small cost of pans, compared to the cost of the actual unit.

Induction isn't cheap, but if you can afford it (or a top of the line electric or gas stove) spending a little extra on pots and pans really doesn't make any difference.

mnottertail -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 1:33:50 PM)

whats the difference in pots and pans?

Gas. More accurate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all the cooking shows use gas?

mnottertail -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 1:40:19 PM)

gas on top, with electric oven, very good way to go.

kalikshama -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 1:42:11 PM)

RF was making me hot the other day when he was discussing Henkel knives :)

The material needs to be ferromagnetic because the heat is generated in the pots and pans themselves instead of being transferred from the stove top.
This allows for a better heat distribution and a cooking style that's remarkable similar to that of gas.

The stove itself never get's hot thus normal pots and pans won't get hot either.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 2:16:08 PM)

induction sounds awesome ^_^ will have to look into that someday (can always fantasize via google haha)

is gas really more accurate? i do like that the heat basically stops once i turn the burner off, instead of "cooling down" like electric burners.

DesFIP -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 2:18:25 PM)

I'd kill for a gas line in the kitchen. You need it for a wok. The pan heats up immediately and cools right off, essential for wok cookery.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Ze cooking thread -- (2/2/2011 2:20:30 PM)

oooo never got the hang of the wok; maybe that was why? i'll have to get another one and try it out with my gas stove ^_^
any easy wok recipes you care to share?

I just use a cast iron frying pan instead of a wok. I have 4 sizes, cast iron geek that I am. Recipes to come later...
