Didnt you know that Gay marriage and abortion are the ONLY things that the GOP really wants to do anything about? The rest is lip service and talking points.

How we doing?  Where we at with the borrow and spending problem GOP?

StrangerThan -> RE: What up GOP? (3/10/2011 4:58:11 PM)

From my perspective, dealing with whiners on both sides of the fence. OH MY GOD you cut... OH MY GOD you haven't cut..

It's like every time some cut comes up, people bitch, whine, protest, cry and wring their hands. In between the whine-fests, they sit back and shoot barbs at what hasn't been done.

I like that the GOP can't rely on the tea party people to toe a party line. I like it a lot. If more politicians would think for themselves, we might actually find compromise here or there rather than simply being against the other guy because of the letter next to his name.

State and federal budgets are in crisis mode. The cuts have to come from somewhere, but no one wants cuts made. Our government is bloated, serving to special interest, and as George Carlin said, they don't give a fuck about you. In all the political wrangling that goes on here, a lot of people bitch, but few do anything to affect real change. I said months ago that Dems needed their own Tea Party. In fact, we need a dozen of them and we need politicians willing to take on the financial sector.

Look around the world. Countries everywhere are in trouble financially, much of it brought on by the same types of fiscal maneuvering and tricks that got the US in trouble.

I'm with Anerin. The world is falling down.

Edited to add - case in point when it comes to cuts. I signed Planned Parenthood's letter to Congress. When they wrote thanking me for standing with them and asking for a donation, I replied "Your letter was poorly written and smacked of outraged hand wringers. The cuts have to come from somewhere. I signed your letter to Congress because this is probably the wrong place for them. I have no standing with you nor do I want any."

All I can figure out is RO wants a banana and he used to get beat up a lot when he was a kid.

About as fucked as the last time you asked, Ron.

Think of it in terms of Iraq. The Dems ran all over the place on ending the war in '06, took control of Congress, then didn't do a damn thing, so they could use the issue again in '08.

That cow is a long way from done giving milk.

mnottertail -> RE: What up GOP? (4/2/2011 8:35:13 AM)

I was sort of thinking that the 'mandate' to fix our budget was what shoed in the GOP but I am simply mistaken I see.

tazzygirl -> RE: What up GOP? (4/2/2011 8:35:53 AM)

Face facts, neither wants to do anything about Iraq... neither is going to do anything about Iraq... neither care about Iraq, beyond the grandstanding and finger pointing and talking points the situation provides.

What I would love to take a peek at is the investment portfolios of those in office. Wonder what could be found there.

housesub4you -> RE: What up GOP? (4/2/2011 9:29:46 AM)

As far as I can tell, with the the Great ways the GOP has put forth to solve the debt. It boils down to this

National debt  1.7 trillion

All the GOP cuts (education, medicare/medicaid, food stamps, social service budgets) grand savings brings the
National debt to 1.4 Trillion

They gave away more in Tax cuts to the top 1% they are cutting from the poor.

Somehow they can't bring themselves to cut 1 penny from corporate welfare programs (subsidies) , not 1 penny cut from paying farmers not to grow food, not 1 penny cut from the war, and they managed to make sure that when they shut down the government THEY and their staff will still be paid, but no one else will be in government and niether will people on Social Security which has nothing to do with the National Debt

The new "leaders" *bah* seem to be pushing religious right agenda instead of tackling issues where they should be tackled
Legislating morality while the country is hurting, and they are slashing the hurting pop too
sicskening for me, but not in the least surprising
How many of these bills will be fought and denied in courts or sentes
They should be fined for writing bad laws and using valuable resources for their own gains

These new Congresspeople were never interested in the deficit. They were always culture warriors out to derail a President they don't like for reasons obvious to those with eyesight.

Very true Ken, I didnt even wanna go there...but that was enormous from the beginning,
and still is.

TheHeretic -> RE: What up GOP? (4/2/2011 11:34:06 AM)

A little parable showed up in my email the other day.

quote:

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people, one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created two positions, a time keeper and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, an Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year, and we are $918,000 over budget. We must cut back." So they laid off the night watchman.

Yea, Fla's new governor Rick Scott (a tea party dude) thinks we'll solve our problems by cutting back more on education and by making police officers, teachers, and other state and county workers contribute 5% of their paychecks to their retirements funds.  New employees will no longer be eligible for a traditional retirement, but can contribute to a 401K in the private sector. He also wants to end cost-of-living adjustments for retirement accounts.  Looks like Florida students and retirees are going to be suffering...so far.

Is that the same Rick Scott who has particularly innovative health care ideas - closing down health centres for the poor and forcing them to use private drop-in centres run by ....guess who??? His own company!

I expect to see Florida's budget in surplus within a week, and much healthier citizens down there too. Ahh the winds of change, truly breaths of fresh air!
