it's kind of cold once the sun goes down, but not so bad you can't stand it, and me being over weight an out of shape kind of works in my favor lol, cause I am burning up like a furnace and so hot an sweaty when I walk the block. So i don't feel the cold so bad half way down the road.

I do not recommend a 45 minute yogalates class one night, then the very next night a 40 (actually 30 minutes with a 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down but anyhoo...) minute elliptical workout followed by a 45 minute Zumba class in a room that was previously used for hot yoga.

Getting out of bed was a struggle this morning.

That's hot.

I called the dr and told her my legs are hurting a lot an stuff and it hurts to extend my leg and walk and to check in with her and get her approval on the exercise program like I was supposed to, she told me stop going to the gym, stop walking stop exercising she said basically I am to large to exercise I will hurt myself there is no way I can safely excercise because I am 318 to 330 pounds,. she said do no exercise at all, and eat a very strict 1,800 calorie diet,*  which by the way the personal trainer at the gym told me not to go below 2k*and the weight will melt off if I did as she said* that was her exact words if I eat like that the weight will melt off* then I could walk once I lost a bunch of weight,, so I was like look, you are the one who told me to walk and loose weight. so that's what I am attempting to  do, and now you're telling me not to walk the block  or exercise of any kind so ......... and she finally said ok you can go to the gym but do NOT do the eliptical or the cross country ski machine, and DO NOT do the ab curler machine you're going to hurt yourself, She said I can do the tread mill and maybe the leg bar weight thing and that's it nothing else.

I'm really upset and discouraged right now because I felt like finally, yes this is a path I am supposed to be on I am doing right by myself I am getting out I am going to a fitness plan, i'll be cooking my own meals and prepping my own food,  an then the dr just essentially took a news paper whapped me many times over the head and told me bad puppy NO! you're doing it wrong, stop that bad bad puppy*

I'm not gonna stop walking, or going to the gym, I may switch to one with a pool, because that's actually what my pysichal therapist wants for my bad knee.

I am finding it very hard to believe that any doctor worth their salt would tell you this (note: I have no idea of your medical conditions which may bar you from exercising), but I hardly think that walking for 30 mins a day would hurt you. Have you seen Heavy? Or the Biggest Loser? People on those shows do all of that and more (once again, not knowing your medical conditions). As Jillian Michaels says, "I've had 400 pound people doing jumping jacks...so can you."

Don't be discouraged. Listen to your body. I am assuming you know what good, sore pain is and what damaging pain is.

soul2share -> RE: ok way to change your tune and be so unsupportive once I do as you say doc (2/11/2011 9:29:23 PM)

Also TFB, make sure you have a GOOD pair of walking shoes.....yes, you're going to have to shell out some bucks, the Walmart ones aren't going to cut it.  That will help cut down some of the stress of walking.  And like trapped said, listen to what your body is telling you...when it starts to hurt, it's saying "YO.....bit too much too fast!"....slow down until the pain goes away.....it's really not "no pain, no gain"......working out until you are dying never made much sense to me!

Have you checked out the Y?  They have water aerobics classes, and when I worked at one several years ago, they offered adjusted rates for the costs of the classes according to income levels.  Using a pool would be beneficial as far as relieving the stress on your body, and it's supposed to be a good workout.

Keep up the effort!  Also, I misunderstood you on my first post about your dad...for some reason, I thought you said daddy......my bad.  Maybe your mom can walk with you on the days you don't go to the gym?

Tell the doctor to go to hell.

Do low impact activities like walking and swimming.

Dr seems to be covering their own ass, they tend to do that. I once had a Doctor tell me I would probably not be able to walk normally and there was no way I was going to ever run again, and 6 months after that I ran 3 miles in 18 mins. The point I'm making is don't take the doctors words to heart and let it get you down, as long as your being safe, keep doing your exercise and enjoy life. Oh and as a proud owner of several golden retrievers, 4 to be exact, I know those puppies love to get out on a leash, and they are alot of fun to play with they wear you out before you even realize your getting a work out!

barelynangel -> RE: ok way to change your tune and be so unsupportive once I do as you say doc (2/12/2011 6:02:06 AM)

TFTB, YOur doctor is full of it.  I don't normally say this about doctors because i believe they do their best.  But i have never in all the losing weight type and getting fit type groups heard of a doctor telling someone to STOP ALL EXERCISE simply because they hurt after working out for the first time.  Perhaps you need to alter what you do at the gym, i am surprised they started you out on the eliptical.  Your body will probably hurt when you exercise even walking more than you do because you are using muscle and doing more than you usually do.

What you want to do with exercise is get your heart rate up.  So i woulr say when you are at the gym, walk on the treadmill for 1/2 hour at a pace that gets your heart rate up but you can still talk.  You can do this on the bike also.  I wouldn't do the eliptical for at least a month.  Once you can do the treadmill at like 2.5 pretty decently without feeling like you are going to passout or can't catch your breath.  You will know when you are ready, it will be hard to start the eliptical just like its hard to start exercising so be prepared for that.  You won't be able to jump on it and not get tired.

As far as the weight machines, i wouldn't use those unless you have a couple sessions with a trainer because i agree, you can hurt yourself by trying to lift too much.  And if you hurt yourself, you will become discouraged etc.

There is healthy "hurting" so to speak.  But you will need to start listening to your body and you will start to know whether or not you are just sore from exercise you aren't used too, or if you are hurt.

Take it slow.  Listen to your body.  Don't let soreness discourage you but do make sure its soreness and NOT being hurt.   Good luck and you are doing good keep up the determination!

angel

This!

Also, the elliptical is a good choice. Not too much impact on the joints.

Some soreness is to be expected, if it is too much, tune the intensity of your exercises a bit down, but keep up with the frequency.

TFB, there is nothing like the feeling of sore muscles, of knowing you are taking care of yourself and are seeing results.

I really hope you get to experience that soon.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: ok way to change your tune and be so unsupportive once I do as you say doc (2/12/2011 4:01:50 PM)

yeah and the new saying is pain is weakness leaving the body, and that may be true but if you're causing yourself pain, do not be mr ms matcho , stop for a bit.

There isn't a Y near us, but the local highschool opens it's pool in the summer to the community and I was looking to join a gym that has a pool, but a lot of the gyms are super expensive or don't allow guests with out you paying 10 dollars a visit.

I'm happy with our planet fitness gym, it doesn't have a pool but the place is very clean very friendly, and guests are free.

I honestly prefer not walking with my mom she's unable to walk well and won't walk as far as I will.

I knew I'd be sore, that was no secret, but 3 days of searing legg stiffness through me for a loop lol, fortunately today it's much better.  I've lost 6 pounds since the beginning of the month, most recently with all the walking an gyming an eating right, I look forward to making meals too, simple healthy ones.

You will be amazed at how fabulous you feel when you eat right, and exercise.

It is like the world takes on new, brighter colors.
