Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly recently tried to prove the existence of God with the now-infamous line, "Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can't explain why the tide goes in." As anybody with a rudimentary understanding of science is aware, the tides go in and out because of the moon and something called "gravity."

Equate these folks to computers. The talking head you see is not a server, or even a client. It is a workstation. No processing power needed really, just input and output like a router or switch. Input the text and out comes speech. When they try to do it on their own people can see this quite clearly.

One would have to be able to define God to ponder it's existence.

God is having the cats curled up with me in bed purring.

God is hugging my Mom.

God is happy memories of times with my Grandfather, trying to grasp mathematics (even if I was horrible at it)

God is the love and affection from my friends, and loving and being affectionate TO my friends.

God is knowing that despite my failings (which are many) that I am successful (if not by Wall Street standards, at least by the standards taht matter.. )

God is in the appreciating of a rainbow.. of a day of relaxation, of a day of giggling with my friends, a night of sleep free of nightmares,  a moment of smelling the scents of nature,  an instant of knowing the awesomness of taking a breath...

I could go on, but why?

IMO the best "proof" of God is belief in God. Every culture has had an idea of the divine, and what they consider religious experiences...even cultures that never met, cultures separated by an ocean...they had a different idea of God but they all thought that there was something greater.

an excellent example of religion being only magic which science has yet to explain.

The fact that we live in such a balanced eco-system, and yet, you can put all the pieces of a meat grinder in a dryer, let it spin for all eternity, and it will never put itself together, is an example I have a hard time disputing.

From my more personal experiences; the sighting of a ‘city of gold’, after asking for a sign, in relation to thoughts I had about the existence of the ‘one true god’.

Then there is the image of ‘humanity’ (a single man) that covers much of Earth’s surface, combined with numerous, mostly smaller images, depicting his past present and future.

Three is all I’ve got.

I believe that aliens take me from my bed each night and perform devious experiments on my anal cavity.

And if I believe it that is definite proof it is true.

If every single culture from the dawn of recorded history believed the same, you might be on to something.

You are trying to make an argument that because people believe in something it must be true.

So if you go go back in history, as you suggest, then the existence of the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses must be accepted as fact.

The Mayans did (just ask Erich Von Daniken), and Ezekiel appears to have been abducted by aliens.
What you're failing to address is the very real possibility that all of these alleged expeirences of gnosis people have experienced since the bronze age aren't the work of aliens with a taste for anal pegging (and huge spikey dildos) who have just historically been misinterpreted as God(s)?

This is called the watchmaker anolgy or sometimes the '747 assembled by a tornado' argument. It is deeply fallacious.

Read The Blind Watchmaker by Dawkins to have the argument completely examined and discredited.

I kind of wonder where this argument will go in a few billion years when either the spin of the earth becomes more unpredictable leading to rapid environmental changes or when people are being spit roasted by the sun. People believe the day is 24 hours long because it's all they know of, they can't comprehend the day being shorter even though there is evidence of such.

In a few billion years we'll be living in the age of spiritual honesty.

A plane crashes killing hundreds but one infant survivor is found in the wreckage.

My cousin's neighbor's sister's brother-in-law's veterinarian's best friend swears he used to have a cancerous cyst. Then he prayed. Now he doesn't have it. He used to have leprosy too, to boot.
