A law under consideration in South Dakota would expand the definition of "justifiable homicide" to include killings that are intended to prevent harm to a fetus—a move that could make it legal to kill doctors who perform abortions. The Republican-backed legislation, House Bill 1171, has passed out of committee on a nine-to-three party-line vote, and is expected to face a floor vote in the state's GOP-dominated House of Representatives soon.

FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to expand the definition of justifiable homicide to provide for the protection of certain unborn children.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section 1. That § 22-16-34 be amended to read as follows:
22-16-34. Homicide is justifiable if committed by any person while resisting any attempt to murder such person, or to harm the unborn child of such person in a manner and to a degree likely to result in the death of the unborn child, or to commit any felony upon him or her, or upon or in any dwelling house in which such person is.
Section 2. That § 22-16-35 be amended to read as follows:
22-16-35. Homicide is justifiable if committed by any person in the lawful defense of such person, or of his or her husband, wife, parent, child, master, mistress, or servant, or the unborn child of any such enumerated person, if there is reasonable ground to apprehend a design to commit a felony, or to do some great personal injury, and imminent danger of such design being

I am Catholic and against abortion for religious reasons.

That being said, while I am against abortion, it is the law of the land, and the doctors perform abortions and the women getting them will answer to a higher judge than I can ever be.

But the murder of an abortion doctor does not make a right. Murder is murder, and with the exception of war and self defense, thou shalt not kill.

Actually, in the original version, the commandment is thou shalt not murder. The bible is full of justified killing.

South Dakota Moves To Legalize Killing Abortion Providers

A bill under consideration in the Mount Rushmore State would make preventing harm to a fetus a "justifiable homicide" in many cases.

quote:

...Sara Rosenbaum, a law professor at George Washington University who frequently testifies before Congress about abortion legislation, says the bill is legally dubious. "It takes my breath away," she says in an email to Mother Jones. "Constitutionally, a state cannot make it a crime to perform a constitutionally lawful act."...

No, you thought Arizona was nutts, while 80% of us think Arizona is only doing what the federal government should have been doing ever since the 1986 amnesty.

The only murderers here are the pro abortion politicians who allow this genocide to continue. By the way, it's pro abortion, not pro choice. That's just another way for them to deceive you into believing it's perfectly acceptable.

Isn't it amazing how the conservatives want government to stay out of people's affairs until its what sex you like to have sex with or whether a woman wants to end a pregnancy?

"How many abortions do you require in a years time? "

I hope you're fucking drunk Hunky. You are saying you don't care about the "rights" of others when it is something you will not need to do personally ? That's the kind of thinking that got this world as fucked up as it is.

Very bad show.

Kindly look up the meaning of the word genocide before using it.

No, it isn't. Like the word genocide, the word choice seems to escape your understanding.

As to the idea of legalizing the killing of medical professionals who perform abortions, it is completely asinine. Having read the entire article, the proposed legislation turns my stomach.

If anything is genocide, it's what would happen to the doctors if this bullshit got passed.

On the other hand, this would allow any given doctor who performs abortions to shoot all the politicians in the state, due to their obvious plan to kill them... So I can't say it's all bad.

I do always find it strange the way the right to lifers insist that a blob of meat that's probably going to grow up on a trailer park is of more worth than somebody whose been to medical school. They'd rather lose a Doctor and gain another welfare case, then have the brass neck to turn around and start whinging about social security spending?

You could well be in there: if he's a Republican he's probably noted for using a wide stance in public lavatories...

Why does everyone assume this will end with the Drs? Politicians who vote for abortion measures can be targets too. Nurses who work in those clinics. Supply delivery drivers. The postman who delivers their mail.

Talk about a huge slippery slope!
