Have you perchance read Mark twain on the subject? I forget the name(s) of the essay(s), but 45 years ago I thought he was tremendous on the subject. And hilarious. You make the same point, exactly..... It was true then, and it's treu now.

It would be more accurate to say that I have read Heinlein on the subject and he was a fan of Twain.

lol Of course, absolutely I ignored the whole thing cause you want to obfuscate what you actually mean. And, of course, you'll come back and say that I can't actually understand what you are saying cause I am not capable of such high powered thought.....you and firm are twins...lol

Interesting how you believe you know my intent and what I mean when you ignore what I say.

Thank you for your admission of being the problem.

You are judging and demonizing those who don't agree with your position.

And you're not?

No, I'm not and I think that should be obvious.

Where have I claimed anyone disagreeing with me is a Neanderthal?  Where have I said that they are selfish, or evil, or ignorant?  Where have I accused them of wishing ill on entire segments of the population?  Where have I said that they are mentally ill?

I may not agree with some here about how they'd go about solving problems... I may think they are wrong.  But I do not belittle them for their opinions.  I do not try to marginalize them for their viewpoints.  I do not personally disparage them or try to sway others against them for the beliefs they hold.

Until we agree to disagree... respect that others can hold opposing views without being monsters... there's little point of even hoping for reasonable solutions to society's problems.

A tone of patronising contempt that somebody can be so stupid as to disagree with you is judgemental, even if you don't resort to namecalling to get it across, I'm afraid.

No you are obviously completely wrong and really don't merit consideration. Yet, I don't know why you insist on calling me names..........

Unfortunately I can't control how you read the tone of my posts.  While you may choose to not believe me, I can assure you that it is never my intent to come across as patronizing and there is no one here that I hold in contempt.

(I will admit there are one or maybe two that, after numerous attempts at civil discourse, I've given up attempting to restrain myself and allow my words to convey the message to them that I think they are a bit of an idiot.)  [;)]

Is it possible that you are reading my words through some bias of your own?  Or is it really how I word things?

Jeez, how far we've come since the Second World War. Once, everyone talked about social reponsibility; now, everyone talks about individual responsibility. A society needs children, otherwise it eventually ceases to be a society. It needs the kids to get born, grow up, then work for the people who are too old, or too young, to work for themselves. Oh, and occasionally it needs lots of people, in the prime of their lives, to get slaughtered in wars. Still, maybe that'll never happen again because the West's political leaders have been so very unwarlike since WW2 . . . .

Funny, really. One would have thought that the most obvious, most crucial 'capital' a human society could invest in would be humans themselves. How and why did this argument get trashed along the way?

Perhaps, it is just what happens, when people start thinking of each other as assets; something to capitalize off of.
