Yes, I do dress for the occasion.  At the same time, I don't command clip to wear his 'every day' collar just because we are going to a restaurant.

I dont dress slutty in public, and luckily i have never been with a man that wanted me to. I am so conservative that i annoy myself. The most i will do is a pair of tight jeans, but even those are getting rare since gravity sent my ass southward.

As to someone else...i probably wouldn't even notice a collar (unless it's a Grandma wearing a dog collar, then i might look twice), but inappropriate attire will immediately get my attention, and not in a good way. My thoughts seem to run along the line of "attention whore" and wondering why they are so screwed up that they have resorted to that type of dress.
Unfair as it may be, my first impression is very negative.

If an attractive female is dressed like a tramp then you know what?  Good.  That is a great community service.

Now what I have an issue with is fat people dressing in short skirts and jean shorts.  There needs to be a law against that.  Who do they think they are?  I'll tell you what they are: selfish.  They are selfish.  No consideration for those with fragile pupils.

So its ok as long as they are attractive in your eyes. Personally, I feel its a shame they cant allow their "good looks" to speak for themselves and have to act the part of a slut to get the attention they so desperately seek. Sort of like young men with long hair.

No thank you. I consider it exactly as its presented. A holier than thou attidtude towards a certain part of the population who has done nothing wrong to you, or anything against you. Just merely their presence in this world is enough to set you off in a bigotted tangent... as seen on this thread.

Sorry, I call em as I see em. Dress it up in any fancy outfit you wish.

I think that functioning adults would dress appropriately in a social or business setting.

But then again, I am in the NNJ/NYC area and people dress to impress. Although, most people don't really blink in NYC if you see anything like a collar. You could be walking down Fifth Avenue naked on a leash and no one cares.

Unless the leash worn was white after Labor Day.

Reading about going out to dinner in a nice restaurant, wearing a collar and "slut" clothes (not my word), the person on the left side of the slash seemed to be of the idea that if people were staring at the couple, it would be due to the collar.

My thought was if people were staring, it would be due to the "slut" clothes.

What would be your thoughts if you saw something like that?  I think I can predict for some, it would be "nice shoes". LOL.

Years ago when I was taking clients out to dinner on an expense account, I went to some really upscale restaurants.  I do remember one time a maitre d' trying to discreetly refuse service to a gentleman due to his companion.  It wasn't discreet because the young lady's voice carried when she inquired as to why they wouldn't be dining that evening.  It was completely a "Pretty Woman" moment.

So, back to the question... do you dress for the occasion and location, or do you wear whatever you want, wherever you go, and to hell with everyone else?  If you do dress for the occasion and location, what are your thoughts when you see someone who clearly does not?

Cali

When I was young I was way into shock value (Everyone steps back, amazed and horrified), but now I just see it as being damn disrespectful.
I dress as appropriate for the situation. Personally, and this is JMHO, I think to do so is a sign of class, and failure to is rude.
Course, I'm a guy who wears Armani to play clubs so what the fuck do I know...

I think it depends on the situation. I have gone out on a date intending it to only be coffee and dressed for that and ended up in a nice restaurant.

How do you know the people who walked in the woman was intended instead of a four star restaurant they were going to a club and the guy changed his mind...

People dress how they wish, I dont care how they dress either way as long as they arent disruptive to me it doesnt matter if they are in cotton or silk.....

So...because I dislike seeing "large" females dressed in "slutty" clothing that means that I have a hatred towards them as people?  It is more that I do not want to see somebody that far exceeds what is "average body weight" on the body mass index fashion themselves in clothing that a popstar diva would wear.

From a female perspective, would you want to see a fat man without his shirt on or a ripped male model?

I dont happen to like "ripped male model" looks. Never have. But I dont put them down either. I have two guys at work who are working on their bodies. They show me their muscles everyday. I ooo and ahhh because they expect it, not because I like it.

And I have often said ... just because they make it in your size, doesnt mean you have to wear it.

However, that isnt what you said initially.

Im hardly skinny myself. Does not bother me what you may or may not think. I wear jean shorts. They make jean shorts in appropriate sizes for everyone.

What I find amazing is how you could consider a popstar diva more appealing than someone with weight. Guess a drugged out porn-star wanna be is more to your taste.

Well now you're just showing classic symptoms of "Female Envy."  Yes I would find a celebrity good-looking and so would a vast majority of other people.

If you haven't been keeping up with a majority of my posts most of what I say is usually not meant to be taken seriously.  So when I say, "how selfish of them" I do not truly hold a zealous attitude.  Personally, it entertains me.  I will gleefully admit however that I do dislike it when I see somebody in the two-hundred pound range adorning a short skirt.  Do I hate them as a person?  Nah, but I do disagree with their choice of clothing.

I am glad that it does not bother you what someone such as myself may or may not think but don't complain if somebody holds the view that we would much rather see a slender/athletic feminine body be in similar attire.  That is just how the world works.

Gotta go get excited over my "drugged up wanna-be pornstars" now. =(

You can wear whatever you like, but it's recommended that if you're not wearing the appropriate, you make a mental note on that.
I dress for the occasion, but if I find someone in, say, the subway, who is not dressed like the rest of us mortals, I just assume he/she is dressed for a different occasion. I don't usually stare because it's impolite, and if I can't help it I usually cover it up by adding any kind of sincere, discreet compliment. In the worst cases, I point out why I'm staring (politely), so no one gets any wrong impression. I don't like people who stare, and I don't like to be stared at by them.
Culturally, one would dress up differently just to get more attention. However, there ARE people who purposely don't follow the normal dress code, just to say 'leave me alone' or 'this is me.' We should start respecting them more. If they want to wear those "slut" clothes, or if they want to dress goth, or punk, or anything else, it's a good thing for us to notice, but we should mind our own business. People should be free to dress in their preferred way, even if it bothers us.
I, for example, am not particularly fond of slut clothes, but maybe sluts are not at all fond of my (amaloli) outfits. When I dress in this type of fashion, it's because I'm going to meet someone who knows and understands me (and my Victorian Era craze). I dress up for that person, for that specific date, in order to be comfortable and happy that day... but everyone else might think me crazy. Especially when I'm on my way to the date, or left alone where people don't have a clue. They will usually whisper and chuckle to themselves while I felt in all honesty like I looked adorable. I don't like people staring, I seriously don't; and in my case, my clothes usually say 'I'm uncomfortable and therefore have to wear my comfort in public, so please leave me alone.'
It would be easier to understand if I was just wearing something that said CHANEL. It would be equally strange, but they would approve, and stop staring, and stay quiet.

EDIT. Oh. My god. I am IN NO WAY saying Chanel is for certain kind of people. I just wrote Chanel like I could have thought of any other famous trademark's name.
