Many parents act like it is the end of the world when the schools close for whatever reason {snow, holidays, summer, furloughs, etc.}.

lol

I can assure you that many, many, many parents do not want their little angels, home alone attending school online.

Many do not want them home alone, even for one day! {even the teenagers, or should I say, especially the teenagers!}

We keep giving teachers pink slips and we won't be able to "afford" to send the lil darlings to school.
A country that does not place high value on those we entrust to educate our children should not be suprised when the children can not compete in the new global marketplace.

Please clarify this for me....were you under the impression that I believe that all teachers sport a halo?
Or is this example supposed to paint all teachers as evil, sadistic bastards that are torturing the lil darlings after we drop them off?
Just asking for a clarification here.

nope. lol I was a fast reply meant for no one in particular.

What I implied is that if teachers want to belong to the board or a 'teachers' union they should be following the board and union rules for any particular county that they belong.  Rogue teachers as such need to be gone.  Teaching is a team effort, afterall.  That includes the parents, the board and the union itself.

A union (if so) defending such behaviour is not doing any involved any favours.

Cool....but it is my experience that what a union will do(and should do)is ensure that said teacher gets a fair hearing...and that whatever process is in place for dealing with such instances is administered fairly and impartially.Once that is done...and were the teacher in question to be found at fault(and in the instance you gave us a link to...eggregiously at fault)than said teacher would probably just have to accept whatever appropriate punishment(fired in my book) was handed down.It has been my experience that unions will no more spend their capital on "lost" causes that any other institution.....they have a finite supply of said capital and are hesitant to spend it to no good effect.

Innocent until proven guilty. At this point its one's words against the others. Maybe im naive, but seems to me the teacher would be crazy to admit she did in fact have the other boys beat him up.

Will be interesting to see the outcome.

There ya go. If the teacher did this, she should be sued. If the parent lied, the parent should be sued.

Are you saying teachers belong to the school board?   Do you know what a school board is?

What a ridiculous question.  Anyone who can read the English language knows what that sentence means.

But, since you don't understand, I will explain.

Belong to the particular board = have a set curriculum and discipline guidelines to follow --within a particular county. Belong = they are hired by that particular board, also may or may not belong to a union (if available).

If they choose to belong to another board or system, they can choose alternate employment opportunities obviously, but once a signed employee..their agenda best strive to be of consistency 'belonging to that board'.

Too much of an explanation for something so simple to understand really.

Came4U: Perhaps you are thinking of board certified, like in the medical profession?

The Providence school board is clearly a different entity from the teachers.

quote:

The Providence school board is threatening all of the nearly 2,000 public school teachers in Rhode Island’s capital city with the possibility of termination.

"I know exactly how they are used. I consult to 5 unions, idiot. "

Another masterpiece. Anyone who doesn't know your personal "work" history is an idiot. I'll make note of that.

I just can't stop looking at that smile.

"First, you'll need computer access for all students and universal Internet access. "

That has been brought up. People, myself included bitch about the cost when the economy is falling apart. But they want to do it anyway I guess. This would be an actual benefit to society, so I figure they won't. Those kids living in the mountains will likely have to learn from disney.com or something.

Homeschooling is the only option in some parts of the world. Internet access would facilitate that greatly. No nore snow days, busing, bullies or heating and cooling bills. No more reams of paper every hour. No more alot of things.

The only thing that would suffer is socialization. Other activities could fix that.

I believe the educational possibilities are the only good thing about universal internet access, whether it is paid for or not. Well it is, but I mean whoever pays for it.

And one thing's for sure - little Johnny will read, or flunk.
