Where would I fit in this aisle thing ?

BTW, you look alot more stoned and happy in that new picture.

Marini -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:02:58 PM)

Arpig, maybe the world isn't black or white?

I would say I lean left about 80% of the time, but the 20% of the time I don't agree with them I really don't agree with them.

The world just ain't always black or white, if you must stick with a side, NO MATTER what the issue / even to go along with things you don't believe in, you are lying to yourself.

I rarely believe in anything in this world 100% of the time.

kdsub -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:03:21 PM)

Arpig I understand your train of thought I just hope you realize...as I have... that at times you imitate what you are ranting against. I don't mean this as a put down but at times you lack patience.

Believe me I know I am no better and I have forced myself of late to not let my passion overtake my manners.

I don't know termy...I would say , based on you social views, probably on the left, but then again you have some rightist views...so I'd say that you, like me, was a humanist...different leanings for different issues. Socially you are very left, but you have many very definately libertarian views which is often considered (wrongly in my mind) right wing....so really I would have to say you are sitting in the middle of the aisle and pissing off everybody on both sides....an image I am sure pleases you.

Arpig,

You have mail.

Marini -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:17:55 PM)

You really do seem hung up on this left/right crap, but than you "type to" and enjoy long conversations with many people I do not.

Here is a hint: If I don't type TOO you, or answer you, I might not like you or your ways.
Now I want to play Big Mountains "I love your way".
I just don't like or love many people's ways.

I learned a long time ago, to look at how a person treats ME and others, that is how I go about living in the world, and that takes priority on his views.

Words don't mean a lot to me, actions speak louder than words, and this way of being has worked for me.

How you treat me and others means a lot. If you are mean to me and others, I may not even listen to what you have to say.
I am often attempting to get the hell away from you.

I agree with you on those points Bill, but that's why we are both leftists. I am not saying that the righties are correct, just that they are not wrong simply by virtue of being right-leaning. In several recent threads the righties have trounced the lefties when it comes to providing proof (well one rightie in particular) while the lefties seem to be playing the traditional republican role of crybaby.
I rarely really get involved because quite simply there;'s no reason to try to convince the ill-informed...My viewpoint is correct and that is all there is to it...but my viewpoint is neither absolute or immutable

ETA: to add a missing "c"

You see here we go again Arpig, as I just catch up. What you say is not true necessarily. I could argue that the conservatism of our founding fathers would not have us in these wars at all. It is conservative not to deficit spend at all or entanglement with international banking and finance in any way.

Furthermore, it can be conservative for policy to create a small national contributory pension (mixed with private equity or directed industrial, public financing which was done separately) and also a national medical care program with of the same collectivism we do for defense and law enforcement. These original conservative ideas were for a purpose, the success of the country...not a particular constituency.

just because they are on the wrong side of the aisle doesn't mean their opinions are worthless, and rather than just dismissing their ideas why don't you engage them in a real debate?

I enjoy a good partisan street brawl, Arpig, but you are quite right here. I think we would be much better off if there was more willingness to find those patches of common ground where we can meet for a beer later.

See next time I am on the left coast in my beloved San Francisco, if I make it to the desert, I am meeting Rich for a beer and maybe more.
I would LOVE to meet mr. Rich.

Arpig -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:41:27 PM)

This comes from a C-mail exchasnge: I think that the burden of reasonableness lies on the left, not because they have been more outrageous, but simply because it is the natural requirement of their position...by definition conservatives wish to keep things as they are...and thus have only to make the argument that things are OK as they are, while the liberal, again almost by definition is required to show how the changes he proposes will benefit the whole. The burden of proof is on the liberal or change-maker, and thus the burden of civility in a debate is also there. This doesn't excuse conservatives from being polite as well, just that as the "defending" force they have a teeny bit more leeway, not in the politeness factor, but in the vehemence factor. You are, after all defending what is...it is up to us to attack that status quo in a decent manner, it is us on the far left who want to radically alter your lifestyle, and thus the burden is on us to show how and why it would be better, and to do so in a manner that is both polite and logical....I mean we all know the lefties are right [;)]

Hi Arpig

It's a lot better when you think of a person as just a person rather than a political party member. It amazes me that people often think every thought and action in a posters life is filtered through a party platform.

I’ll bet most people here say what they feel in their heart and would say and feel the same things even if there were no political parties.

Butch

THIS!!! I don't care if I have ANY fucking "friends" online on the left if they can't make their point, without going out of their way to demean and insult other people, name call, and enjoy talking to other people like shit, because they DARE have a different point of view.
I can stand the hell alone.

Can you tell I despise bullies?
lol

I can engage Rich, Arpig, even RO from time to time without going into "insult" mode. Its all in how I am treated. I do give back what I get. The results, as far as I am concerned, is on them.

Marini -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:45:55 PM)

I agree tazzy.

I am not naming names, attempting to demean or blacklist anyone on here.

I really DO believe in living at let live.

We can all have long conversations with anyone on here, I am stating why I don't have conversations with many around here.

I can't keep beating dead horses, but I don't knock those that do, or even enjoy constant name calling, put downs and fighting.
I get a sadistic thrill from those that continue to try to change or get what they can't get from certain people.
I also think it is wonderful that many people will always have long conversations with some people, no matter how nasty they are to them.
[:D]

My memory is not as short as many people's.

tazzygirl -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:49:02 PM)

OOps... im sorry if that came across as naming names. Those I did name, and I left out many I do enjoy engaging intellectually, are those who I tend to treat respectfully and enjoy their attempts at teaching me a few things.

TheHeretic -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:49:51 PM)

This is the sort of joint where sadists hang out, and masochists come looking to be abused by them, after all.

Arpig -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:51:07 PM)

This is true, I hadn't considered that aspect of it....lay on MacDuff!!!

tazzy, I didn't mean you at all.

There are some people that enjoy putting several posters down on a regular basis, I didn't mean you at all.
To be specific, I don't always agree with Popeye, but I love to read what he writes.
It makes me cringe the way some people talk to him, and he is levels above those that do.
When I see this behavior, I can't enjoy "great chat" with people treating others unkindly, regardless
of how they treat ME.

If I see you kicking others for the hell of it, you just are not my cup of tea, and I won't have much if anything to say to you,
especially any time soon.

There is a mean spiritedness that is well tolerated around here, not called out, and people read these words, don't say anything to those
saying them {cause it's not being said to them, so its okay}, and go right along down the road.

I can't get down like that.

tazzygirl -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 10:55:49 PM)

Oh, I have my own targets. But I also have days where I try to be generous. Then I fail because of someone who decided that day was a good day to put me down.

I gots my issues. [:D]

Arpig -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 11:02:12 PM)

Well I hope the apparent ability to get along in this thread spreads to some of the other ones, because we can't ever solve the problems if we just yell at eachother...through reasoned discussion we can all come to the conclusion that Arpig and his socialists are on the right track [:D]

tazzygirl -> RE: Doubting my affiliation (2/26/2011 11:03:19 PM)

ALL HAIL ARPIG!!!

~is this what you had in mind?
