~fast reply~

Gosh, I'm somehow getting from this thread that there are huge throngs of submissive out there that are just dying to call someone... anyone "master"

not me and i refuse to believe it - !! - well, not from the subs on these boards anyway.

- it isnt even presumption, its playing a role based on need not on compatibility or reality and it cheapens the entire meaning behind the identity of those titles.

people are getting off on the game and frankly if its so easy to call a person Master or slave then you have to question their capacity to understand what the position of Master or slave even means.

vegetablelamb -> RE: Don;t call me "Master" (3/8/2011 7:10:52 AM)

I dunno about anyone else, but Sir Snuggle Possum just thrums with a dominant prowess. I think I got goose bumps.

Falcor64 -> RE: Don't call me "Master" (3/9/2011 9:04:47 AM)

That's pretty common, and a lot of folks have addressed why it might be. If you don't like it, borrow from porceline (sp?) and politely let them know what you want them to call you.

I agree with you- I think "Master" is an earned title, not a given one. But that's my opinion and others will certainly have different views! Actually, I'd prefer a potential sub not give me any title unless she becomes MY sub. To me, that's a particular step in the relationship and signals a sort of intimacy that I don't want with someone who does not submit to me. Again, just my view!

Falcor

littleone35 -> RE: Don't call me "Master" (3/9/2011 11:46:55 AM)

Funny i never minded being called littleone (look at name). On the internet i call peol;e by user name unless otherwise stated in their profile. When i had a Goren Master i was instructed to call other Dons Master and other free womwn Mistress. I am not Gorean anymore i am just me. I call only one Master and that is my Master. I am always respectful but if you want me to call you Master the door is that way>>>>>>>>. My profile clearly stated i am owned. I may call someone sir but don't ask for master.

sexyred1 -> RE: Don't call me "Master" (3/9/2011 11:51:50 AM)

I would never dream of calling anyone Master or Sir. It would not work for me; too silly.

The only time I ever did was during an especially intense time when someone kept saying, who is your Master, baby, who is your Master? C'mon, c'mon say it!!!!

And I was thinking, God, shut up and just do me already.

The only time I call someone Sir is when I get frustrated calling some customer service thing where the person is just not getting it. Then I say, SIR, let me explain this to you ONE MORE TIME and perhaps we an solve the issue.

It seems like a pet peave to me but maybe its not...
All too often when speaking to a submissive woman via text, email, phone or even CM messages, she will respond to a message saying "yes Master" to me. This is a bit presumtious having not even met me face to face. I understand its a submissive jesture and a wish to show respect, but if I have never looked down at you with a fist full of your hair I am NOT your master!
Is it just me?

I feel the same way. I'd even dare go further and say holding a fistful of her hair has nothing to do with being a Master, either. There is a time and place when it's fitting to allow someone to speak that word. The man (or woman) should be the one who determines when it is right to allow others to call him or her Master or Mistress. Absence of that consideration in a would-be servant doesn't give any weight or personal context to the terms. When everything is sacred, nothing really is.

Arpig -> RE: Don't call me "Master" (3/9/2011 12:21:45 PM)

Yeah it sort of bugs me to...my name is Bob... has been for long enough that its more or less what I'm comfortable with.

dannigirl1 -> RE: Don;t call me "Master" (3/9/2011 12:25:26 PM)

The only person i call Master is my own Master, i sometimes call other Doms Sir but NO other Doms are called Master by me

With all due respect the preference shouldn't have to be uttered. Unless the individual was raised in a colony of wolves, it's likely that they're capable of utilizing salutations that aren't derogatory in content. The idea that I need to instruct a man who desires to be my example is indicative of his unsuitability for the position.

Agreeing 98% with you  lass (as oft happens)..

However I must comment about wolves. All the wolves I know or play with in the past (real wolves ~ Canis lupus), are highly social with each knowing his or her place in the family/pack. It would be inconsistent to their pack behavior to treat another being/wolf and in their own language as Master/Mistress when there is only one..the pack leader. Grizzly's are a tad different and would probably let fly with a good famed left hook albeit loaded with those lethal claws at anyone butting in or even just for fun.). Wolves are more likely to ground you and bare their fangs near your throat as a warning..

Similar to the way I think RS does when pissed off..lol
