True enough... but maybe that should really be the second question. Maybe the first question should be, "are you willing to allow yourself to be beaten, raped, or killed?" The answer to that question might put the other one in a different light. There is, after all, a difference between protecting yourself and just "killing somebody."

If you have to kill somebody, you have the option to deal with it later on.   If you don't, then of course you don't have the option.

Options are generally better than none.

What *I* would have a hard time living with is being involved in an accidental gunshot death - if these dudes act like they sound, waving weapons around, "accidents" have got to be pretty common.   But I suspect it's all talk by blowhards who couldn't hold a group if they had to.

Susan, that's an easy one, *they* called it not you.
If someone gets into your home you don't talk to them, ask them what they want etc, just start unloading on them. That is a *truly dangerous* situation and if you're "lucky" you'll "only" be raped.
And the type of people who do things like that well, it's probably not their first rodeo and unless *you* stop them they'll probably do it to someone else so that's how you live with it.
What if they "only" raped you and then went on to kill a child? How would you live with that?

Nope, the first question is 'What is the person breaking into my house going to do to me?'
I really don't plan on finding out, and I will live with myself just fine... the key words being 'I will live'. I will give myself every (legal) advantage when it comes to those 3 words, particularly in my own home.

Sorry if that seems harsh, but that is the way I see it.

No matter what the supreme court says (incidentally......) that right also extends to any of my personal space, that remains to be tested. I take my right, and I had it long before they bestowed it.

Got Women jack ? I want one and I can get more weapons than most cops. Power is what this country is built upon, those who want to give it up should just fucking leave. And those who abuse power, indeed shirk the corresponding responsibility, should be executed.

Losing you where?  No citation.

I don't compromise a right of self-defense, or defense of others.   But I'm not paranoid, nor subject to delusions, nor under the delusion that a gun alone will protect me.  Staying alert is more important.    And I'm conscious of the fact that mistakes & misunderstandings are easy, and I don't want to be in a situation where, in Monday morning quarterbacking, it looks like I could have avoided killing somebody.

So somebody breaks into your house.  Do you walk around with your gun on your hip?  I doubt it.   You're gonna have to go get it, and in that time, the fool may be on you.   If you have to run up the stairs with him firing, good luck with that.

It's easy to mess things up, you can do it anytime.   It's harder to get them right, and so you should try to do that, if for no other reason than to preserve your options.

I've carried & used enough weapons in my day that I don't need to bluster about them, nor threaten people with them.

So...what would happen if i did not have a gun in my house? Rather than run up the stairs, i would stand there and be an easy target?

It is planning, pure and simple, Jack. If you try to hurt my family i will reach a gun before you accomplish your goal.

And God help the fool that thinks i am a target because of my gender. When it comes to protecting the cubs, it is the Momma Bear you have to watch out for.

Status: offline 		Of all the weak arguments against gun ownership/usage, I think the very weakest may be that they are not %100 effective, and %100 available, in %100 percent of imaginable situations, and are therefore worthless.
That you are unarmed is evidently preferable to these people, and to the criminals.

what that tells me is you are an untrained ninny that has no business holding a firearm.

There are those of us that know what we are doing. When and if i fire a gun it will not be an accident, it WILL result in a death if i have anything to say about it, and i will not have a single regret nor lose any sleep.
