marsneedswomen -> Bdsm in an apartment (3/6/2011 4:49:36 PM)

I feel a bit self conscious about having bdsm in my apartment. The walls are not very thick and I worry about impact play and sounds. Sound proofing is not allowed (I'm a musician and wanted to know if I could do this) according to the management. Does anyone have any suggestions other than going somewhere else?

make friends with your neighbours.[:D]

the youngsters upstairs now play loud music, so do i, if we dont want the noises to be heard. Thankfull we both like Phil Collins and the like.

Greetings,

I'm uncertain if you're aware that you can apply sound proofing to the unit without violating the managerial regulations. You can purchase panels and place them accordingly on the wall. They vary in size and often look like artistic pieces. If you put them in the areas where sound may be a concern it could alleviate the issue altogether. I read about this company some time ago when researching the issue. The product may address your concerns. Best of luck.

Start watching  Kung Fu movies regularly (English subtitles? All the better!)  and turn the sound up a little louder than you usually would.
Then, next time  you're scening in your apartment, put one on as background noise. Nobody will be able to tell there's anything different going on. Of course, it leaves a lot to be desired as far as ambiance, but it will masque the sounds of kinky fun.

Rugs, music, tapestries, fans, TV, radio, aquarium aerators.

Gags, knee-pads, choking, straps/ropes > chains, thud > smack.

Social psychology says no one is going to report any frightening sounds you might make because they'll all be waiting for someone else to call. Probably you'll be okay [;)]

Years ago I developed this technique  when I used to trent an apartment and wanted it to look very upmarket and early British, which was court ruled, did not breach any landlord rules. I used lots of 2x1 pine to make frames for each wall and help up by the pressure of the adjoining wall panel   each panel was covered with oak looking ply wood and also held the decorative lighting and covered the sheets of sound proofing to cut down the noise of fights and other domestic noise filtering through the walls at odd times.. The result was something from an English manor set but looked effective and welcoming. this was pre-BDSN for me but as at that time I had a coven running it helped to stop the neighbors from freaking out when the heard incantations and chanting in the wee hours of the morning or the sounds of group sex happening. (Stopped a few from beating on the door with cocks inn hand wanting to join the "orgy":

This has worked perfectly well for me, actually. I'd be nervous playing with a screamer, but I doubt that most people in my building even recognize the sounds of impact.

This is a great idea. I may just do that...

DesFIP -> RE: Bdsm in an apartment (3/7/2011 5:16:48 PM)

Layer sounds. TV, stereo and a white noise machine. That way nobody will be able to tell if a scream is from your girlfriend or you, or from the action movie. You can't prevent sound transmission but you can confuse the sounds with each other so no one can be easily identified.

That's for toys. Gags help muffle sounds. dropping a scream down a notch or two. And of course they make the words less intelligible so nobody can hear "You bastard, I'm going to kill you when I get free" followed by long laughter.

leadership527 -> RE: Bdsm in an apartment (3/7/2011 5:20:40 PM)

In general fabric absorbs sound waves. The more fabric you have in your apartment the less hard surfaces there are to bounce around those sound waves. If that isn't enough, then google for DIY Bass Traps. Rock Wool (normally used as insulation) absorbs sound waves extremely well. If you buy the right density, it'll absorb the low frequency thumps of a subwoofer or... perhaps... a crop. If excess screaming is a problem then maybe a gag?
