Just kidding!!

I was listening to a politician in OH who said that he didn't like unions for public employees being able to negotiate the conditions of their labor. I thought to myself, you (the politician) get paid well and get good benefits and you raise your own pay. If one gets elected to the US Senate one immediately has a very healthy pension. This got me to thinking.

What does everyone say to making pay raises for Congress and all public office approved by public referendum ONLY? That's a suggestion I heard for the public workers in Wisconsin. What's good for the goose.....

What do you think?

I am for it, and we have to revote them in yearly.

It's an odd situation. We, the putative masters, can select the officeholder but have no say on the pay or benefits, which we pay for. It's equivalent to a private sector manager whose control is limited to hire/fire decisions once every few years.

Actually, I'd like to see their pay linked to the mean income of their constituents.

Government unions is taking the whim and will of the people away and putting it in the hands of the union.  The people don't get to negotiate.   The unions inflate pay, And yes   i can show you pay scales.

Like most issues in a direct democracy, the general public isn't qualified to make those decisions, that's why we elect people to represent us. However, I think a electing a separate compensation committee could have some merit.

Do you truly believe that about we (you included!), the great unwashed?

What makes a politician more qualified?

I don't include you (or me), no. I'd nominate you for the committee and campaign for you if we were in the same district!

Some are, some aren't. You can only hope that assclowns like we currently have in the WH arent elected too often and arent allowed to do too much damage when they are.

What in the hell does that mean?

We aren't qualified to make the decisions but we are qualified to elect those to make the decisions?

im sorry sanity - i take exception to your posters. my dad works for the government and is in the union. he works 10 hour days monday thru friday and usually 6-8 hours on saturdays. he  often spends what little evening time he has and sundays working at home as well. he works harder and longer hours than just about anybody i know.
perhaps it is different in the us, or with other civil servants, but they are not all lazy sods - some of them work damn hard for their money and are truly dedicated to serving the public.
