What's funny is if this case does "go to court" the mother has really fucked herself as there can be affirmative defenses made that by going to the news and exploiting her son herself, any "damage" that the child suffered is comparable and i would as a reasonable person would believe that the damage the mother has inflicted was worse by exploiting her child on the news than any damage the note pinned under a sweatshirt could do. Also, she would have to prove that the kids teasing him was due to what the TEACHER did, if the child was the one who was announcing the note to people, then he is comparable by his own actions. So any attorney who takes this case will do so for a nuisance settlement hope, and i hope the school doesn't settle.
I don't see based on what has been announced in the media that there are any legal grounds for a suit and i am sure the school and teacher will easily get out on summary judgment.
All in all, if the mother had kept her mouth shut instead of exploiting her child in the media, she may have had some nuisance suit where they would have paid her just to have the case go away without fault being admitted. But she has pretty much fucked herself by her need for 15 minutes of fame.
