My relationships are usually quite protocol driven. That has never prevented me from utilizing their first name or terms of endearment in the midst of the structure. My previous partners have been Master, Sir, Daddy, and Sweetheart to name a few. This didn't diminish our ability to function at various levels of formality. In my experience our respective places were understood and implied. The outward demonstrations of his tether don't negate the internal grip one bit. They both go hand in hand.

see, even though we didn't use a lot of protocol, i still very much understand that. i'm curious about protocol; a different dimension i haven't really experienced

The key point behind protocol is its purpose and continuity. I generally discuss the subject a bit more at the other place. I've found there's some confusion in how it differs from etiquette and oftentimes the terminology is interchanged. I don't believe they're one in the same. However, most people who are protocol aficionados generally display a high degree of etiquette.

Of course there are various of schools of thought on the subject. We can dish if you'd like and I'll point some resources in your direction. :)

I'm actually trying to rationalize why it makes my own skin crawl or my brain want to jump out the skull. I mean, it's only a mere word. What is the strong mental negative association that's truly connected with it. The way it sounds? Sort of like hitting dissonant sounding notes together on a piano? Some hidden secret vow deep inside the sub-conscious to shoot myself if I ever was with somebody that calls me that? In my book "Asshole" is more preferred compared to being called Snookums. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah... don't ever call me that again or else!! Clearly this one name, could wreck a heated passionate moment in 1.5 seconds flat... there's an automatic recoil effect in response to it. Damnedest thing.

I agree. I have never had any type of D/s relationship that involved protocol. Like Poise said earlier, these are human relationships and some people find joy in using titles and protocol and others do not.

Nothing is right or wrong, just right for you.
