Whats next for the Presidential hopeful Gingrich? Who else is he going to blame for his affairs? Newt Gingrich: my love for USA contributed to my affairs Newt Gingrich, a probable contender for the 2012 Republican nomination, has said that his love for the United States contributed to his past marital infidelities. By Alex Spillius, Washington 9:00PM GMT 10 Mar 2011 With his personal history casting a shadow over his fledgling campaign, the thrice-married former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he had sought God's forgiveness for previous mistakes. "There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate," he told the Christian Broadcasting Network. "What I can tell you is that when I did things that were wrong, I wasn't trapped in situation ethics, I was doing things that were wrong, and yet, I was doing them," said the recent convert to Catholicism. "I found that I felt compelled to seek God's forgiveness." Mr Gingrich, 67, has not yet formally declared his candidacy but is expected to make an announcement within the next six weeks, along with other Republicans vying to compete against President Barack Obama. Critics have been quick to contrast his adulterous history with his advocacy for family values and outspoken opposition to gay marriage. Media coverage has highlighted the most damaging episode from his past, when Mr Gingrich discussed divorce with his first wife Jackie while she was recovering in hospital from a cancer operation. At the time he had already started an affair with another woman, Marianne Ginther, who became his second wife. Marianne has said that as she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, Mr Gingrich told her he was having an affair with Callista Bisek, a Capitol Hill aide 22 years his junior, who became his third wife. During that dalliance Mr Gingrich also led the hunt in Congress to impeach Bill Clinton for lying about his liaisons with Monica Lewinsky. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-politics/8374272/Newt-Gingrich-my-love-for-USA-contributed-to-my-affairs.html One would think being extremely busy for one's country would be grounds for the wife to ask for a divorce... not for the hubby to have an affair.
