Whats next for the Presidential hopeful Gingrich? Who else is he going to blame for his affairs?

Newt Gingrich: my love for USA contributed to my affairs

Newt Gingrich, a probable contender for the 2012 Republican nomination, has said that his love for the United States contributed to his past marital infidelities.

By Alex Spillius, Washington 9:00PM GMT 10 Mar 2011
With his personal history casting a shadow over his fledgling campaign, the thrice-married former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he had sought God's forgiveness for previous mistakes.

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate," he told the Christian Broadcasting Network.

"What I can tell you is that when I did things that were wrong, I wasn't trapped in situation ethics, I was doing things that were wrong, and yet, I was doing them," said the recent convert to Catholicism. "I found that I felt compelled to seek God's forgiveness."

Mr Gingrich, 67, has not yet formally declared his candidacy but is expected to make an announcement within the next six weeks, along with other Republicans vying to compete against President Barack Obama.

Critics have been quick to contrast his adulterous history with his advocacy for family values and outspoken opposition to gay marriage.

Media coverage has highlighted the most damaging episode from his past, when Mr Gingrich discussed divorce with his first wife Jackie while she was recovering in hospital from a cancer operation. At the time he had already started an affair with another woman, Marianne Ginther, who became his second wife.

Marianne has said that as she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, Mr Gingrich told her he was having an affair with Callista Bisek, a Capitol Hill aide 22 years his junior, who became his third wife.

During that dalliance Mr Gingrich also led the hunt in Congress to impeach Bill Clinton for lying about his liaisons with Monica Lewinsky.

One would think being extremely busy for one's country would be grounds for the wife to ask for a divorce... not for the hubby to have an affair.

So he's saying that he was so overworked and sleep-deprived that the mistook these women he was sleeping with for the USA?

Well, it makes me wonder who he thought he was screwing and who was actually getting screwed!

I have no love for the man... and I make no bones about it. A complete hypocrite... and even now he cant hold himself personally responsible.

I cant stand that guy.

And, amazingly, doesn't even have the political sense to pretend to!

I dont bash him because of his politial affiliation, I bash him because of his utter lack of morality. The fact that he, and others, believe he actually has a chance of becoming President shows the fantasy world he continues to live in.

pahunkboy -> RE: Using your country as an excuse. (3/10/2011 8:28:55 PM)

He is a pompous ass.

Aylee -> RE: Using your country as an excuse. (3/10/2011 8:28:59 PM)

Okay. . .

What I got from this is:

I love my country.

I worked really hard for my country because I love it. (I take this to mean that I was away from wife and family a lot.)

I believe in these family values things.

I am not very good at these family values things unless I am being watched like a hawk by my wife.

I know that I have screwed up.

My belief system says to ask forgiveness from G-d for these screw ups.

-----

I got less that he blames the US than he was trying to explain or justify his behaviour due to the time away from family because he was working so hard. YMMV

Twice... while both wives were sick... he had affairs... while bashing Clinton for the same exact thing he was doing in private.

It's rather sad, in a DSM IV sort of way.

At least Gingrich got consent. Clinton was a rapist who paid off his victims.

Regardless, I think that he is really only sorry that he got caught.

I do believe Monica was rather... consenting.

Never heard that take. Monika forced to her knees and cock forced down her throat ?

I mean yea...why couldn't the guy just be a normal kinda repub ? Start a couple wars, borrow all of the money to do it, while seeing his women on the sly...raping the whole country while you're at it. Gingrich what...seduced his women when by his position could have been as easily charged ? But there was no vast left wing conspiracy to finance those lawsuits.

tazzygirl -> RE: Using your country as an excuse. (3/10/2011 9:04:10 PM)

This has nothing to do with being republican or democrat... this has to do with the moral fiber of one man.... Gingrich.

Juanita Broaddrick was not.

I do not believe that Kathleen was either.

tazzygirl -> RE: Using your country as an excuse. (3/10/2011 9:24:18 PM)

Juanita Broaddrick signed a sworn affidavit denying the rape.

Kathleen Willey is an interesting case. Did you know her husband committed suicide on the same day she claimed the sexual assault took place? I believe Willey was in love with Clinton and wanted more.

That's the social sleaze the American awestruck for celebrity allows. I am so very, very sorry 'it happened.'

I am so very, very sorry I just loved my country so much. (even though not a single one ever admits, they...made it happen) But don't you think for a minute...he loves money and young pussy just as much if not a whole lot more than his country. That's why he left the HOR...he wasn't going to win another election and he won't now.

tweakabelle -> RE: Using your country as an excuse. (3/10/2011 9:57:37 PM)

Viewing this from a distance, I noted that on two occasions, Gingrich initiated affairs with other women while his wives were going through severe health crises, eventually leaving them on both occasions.

What this tells me is the man is a selfish rat, thinks with his dick, runs at the first sign of trouble and doesn't have the decency to wait until his poor sick wives' health has recovered to the point where they might be reasonably able to cope with a yet another crisis in their lives. Then has the temerity to persecute another for the same and the naked hypocrisy to present himself as a defender of family values.

A lowlife piece of %#&! with ethics that make Theodore Bundy look a bit like Mother Teresa and all the moral stature of a used condom.

If these are the qualities you seek in a President, that's up to you guys. Personally I wouldn't employ him to clean toilets.
