If a thread is older than three months, please start a new thread on the topic. If you find a great thread, you can link back to it in the new thread. This thread will now be locked.

Thank you

I saw a few posts recently locked down with this statement from the admin... what gives?

So we are encouraged to use the "search" feature, but when we find something that we feel the urge to respond to we should not if the post is over 3 months old?

If someone shows an interest in our post that is 3 months old, they should stat a new post and link it to our fabulous post rather than respond to it?

to me this seems a bit harsh, and for what purpose? to create more and more posts? to jam up the servers? to make it seem like there are thousands of topics being discussed?
I just don't get it, im not trying to stir the pot, I just don't see why an admin should care about the start date of a topic and actually lock it up because its old.

LaTigresse -> RE: post edicate? (3/13/2011 11:04:00 AM)

I assume you meant etiquette?

The reason being, at least as I see it, putzes do not fucking READ the dates and begin replying to ancient (in net world time) posts by people that don't even come around anymore and it gets stupid and confusing as hell. Like trying to argue with a dead person.

IronBear -> RE: post edicate? (3/13/2011 11:08:31 AM)

Thank you sweetheart for clarifying this up for me, I was also puzzled at the dedicate ?= etiquette.. Just shows if people pronounced words properly they are more likely to spell them properly too and avoid confusion..

yes, thanks for the correction, I kant speel fer krap.

thank you also for the insite on the thread lock down. I never look at the date it was posted before I reply. But my replies are never constructive to the topic anyway.

Why would you feel the need to respond to something that is already over?

If the topic is important to you, start again... a lot of those older posts can answer questions for many, however, sometimes those questions are not answered by ancient history and need fresh perspective on how it relates to the new OP.

YMMV

I really don't see a six month gap as ancient history, and reactivating a thread allows people to see previous replies on that topic.

Aw, c'mon, I love both of ya, but there's a big difference between six months ago and the early 70's, lol

ModTwentyOne -> RE: post edicate? (3/13/2011 11:36:53 AM)

To avoid what amounts to one-sided discussions (because some of the posters are long gone), you can start a new thread with a link to the old one.

Destroyed.

littlewonder -> RE: post edicate? (3/13/2011 11:59:09 AM)

I'm too lazy to look at the dates of posts. If someone responds to an old post and I want to respond then I do so. I admit though that when I post on here it's not really to help anyone or to be helpful in some way..it's simply because I have nothing better to do or I don't feel like doing what I should be doing instead...pure entertainment value.

While that scenario happens some of the time, it isn't all of the time. I responded to a thread started quite a while ago. I knew the date of the thread before I "resurrected" it. The thread topic had to do with a preference and why individuals had that preference. It was very simple and was a thread I felt could be picked up and continued at any time. I can understand some threads that might involve time sensitive subjects or those related to the OP or posters who are no longer participating on collarchat/collarme, but not all threads are like that. So it seems overkill to me to say "oh no, you can never ever ever resurrect any thread older than a specified date."

DesFIP -> RE: post edicate? (3/14/2011 7:17:44 AM)

You're missing the point which is that inevitably people will make comments to posters who are no longer on the site. In order to prevent that, the rules exist. If you want to add to it, just link it.
