TheHeretic -> Obama's Lament (3/13/2011 12:08:17 PM)

According to the New York Times, President Obama thinks it would be so much easier to be the President of China. The administration's spin is that it would just be easier if he didn't hold an office the whole world looks to leadership.

I suppose that is slightly better than the alternate interpretation, that he wishes he could have people dragged off and shot.

It's the New York Times, of course, so first they have to properly frame his policy do-over, and mention that he's planning to fix it all with another major speech.

DCWoody -> RE: Obama's Lament (3/13/2011 12:14:39 PM)

I suspect it's the current Libya situation. From what I've seen on the boards here usaicans seem to feel like they (as a nation) should be doing something about everything world wide, or that they shouldn't but everyone else is expecting them to. Do Wen & Hu feel pressure to sort out the issue? Doubt it.

What the fuck is an usaican?

I'm going to guess a citizen or resident of the USA.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama's Lament (3/13/2011 12:26:39 PM)

So you're going with the offical spin then, right, Woody? That he resents that being POTUS is a really big job?

What in God's name are you talking about?

How is his policy different from what has been American policy for decades?

Do you really want us to involve ourselves militarily in Libya when we are already involved in Iraq and Afghanistan?

And by the way, did you notice your post has absolutely nothing to do with the article you posted?

Ah another in a long line of clueless posts by a clueless poster.

Why don't you cue us all in on how you would handle the ongoing pro democracyt demonstrations across the world. You must not invoke an anti US backlash, you must spread democracy to every place that is having demonstrations and you must achieve all the goals without spending any US money and it must be done quickly and decisively or FNC will have time to make up lies about it.

Fellow -> RE: Obama's Lament (3/13/2011 12:35:17 PM)

Obama is behaving reasonably well: if you do not know what to do, just wait it out. Obama economic policies are, of course, at least partly responsible for the situation. Policy of pushing up food and other necessities prices (QE1...n), and pumping cash to the top, earlier or later explodes. It applies to the US as well.

Your question in the quoted bit could have easily been answered by reading the link I have helpfully left in for you.

I do not think we should be intervening with any military force, without a direct threat or provocation to ourselves. Where the hell did you get such a crazy idea about my thoughts on that?

Maybe you should re-read your quote on Mr. Obama's words a bit closer. Mr. Obama NEVER stated that. Here, let me put in the REST of the quote that you conviently left out to make your arguement (from your article's source):

quote:

"...As one official put it, “No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square.”

Meaning, the offical makes the statement of what both you stated, and what you left out. Now why are you trying to be misleading? Trying for a 'news reporter's' position at Fox News?

The policy of pushing up food and other necessities prices?

I wasn't aware we had that policy.

Care to explain?

Did you read your own link?

Let me help:

On Thursday, Mr. Obama’s national security adviser, Thomas E. Donilon, deflected calls for more aggressive action in Libya, telling reporters what American officials have been saying privately for days: despite pleas from Libyan rebels for military assistance, the United States will not, at least for now, put its pilots in harm’s way by enforcing a no-flight zone over the country.

So let me ask you, what is the point of this thread if you agree with what Obama is doing?

Cueing us in is the President's job, Ken, not mine. He seems to be looking for that "present" button he like so well in the Illinois legislature, though.

rulemy life: Do you really want us to involve ourselves militarily in Libya when we are already involved in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Well, it's either that or the USMC will have to change the words to its hymn:

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country's battles
In the air on land and sea.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama's Lament (3/13/2011 1:06:17 PM)

The New York Times says he said it, Jo. Do you not consider them a reputable source? Are you not able separate his words from the spin applied to them? Or that the official spin is still a whine from the guy who convinced so many he was the man for the job?

That would be that the President of the United States thinks either that his job would be easier if he had an authoritarian system, or if his position on the world stage didn't matter so much.

Why would you think I agree that a slapstick stumble through history is the proper course for our President to be leading, or that a big speech is the answer, as soon as they stop fumbling around on what to say?
