DCWoody -> Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 9:59:05 AM)

I've long objected to the term, I'll try to explain why concisely.
BBW:Big Beautiful Woman.

It's the 'beautiful' part that annoys me, an individual fattie may or may not be beautiful, but either way it'd bug me if they announced that they were.

To quote a penguin in the other thread.
"for one friend it [BBW] means anyone over a size 6 (which is not obese by any standards... ) for another it means anyone over a size 26."

That's my problem: people do not automatically qualify for beauty once they reach a certain weight.

FukinTroll -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 11:16:31 AM)

~Well fuck... and my day was starting to look up~

Woody, on my profile I say a girl qualifies for my consideration by being, on a scale from 1-10, a 55.

You would be amazed as to how many women take hard core personal offense to that statement; because they don't get it, cannot understand it and call me an "arrogant asshole" "click block" and mire in their stupidity.

The perfect 10 cover girl will not ever have a prayer of being a 55 because what is inside her, drags her further and further from the mark.

I see a lot of 55 UBER FUKIN HOT GIRLS on this side... and a few more SLURP mails to hikari (who proudly calls herself a BBW) and she will be a glowing 55, she is making hell-a-good progress cuz she is feeling good and feeling tha luv.

For me the holy grail is the confident, genuine, sincere and intelligent 55 girl. Physically I am not attracted to just any ole BBW, emotionally, mentally and even spiritually many of my girls that consider themselves BBW's are my 55 HOT GIRLS and I love the connection I have with them here.

YMMV
SLURP~

sexyred1 -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 11:25:39 AM)

To the OP:

Again, like the last poster who started a fat thread, why the fuck is what someone chooses to call themselves annoying to you?

Why do you care?

I don't care if a short guy calls himself vertically challenged, or a bald guy calls himself follically challenged and if a guy identifies as handsome, etc. why would that bother me? Unless I had some deep seated issue with them which is perhaps what you have with BBW's.

I got news for you sparky; if a woman thinks she is beautiful at ANY weight, god fucking bless her.

Whereas stupid people never see their stupidity, hence threads like this.

I think I will probably go to my grave not understanding the problem that some assholes have with the word BBW or confident women in general.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 11:31:16 AM)

i find it interesting that people seem to only have this "issue" with the word beautiful when it's applied to someone who doesn't fit the socially accepted standards of beauty, whatever on earth those are at the time. people come at it like "who are you to announce that you're beautiful?" but uh... why should they NOT?
if a slender girl says she's pretty, it's mostly overlooked. if a man says "i'm handsome," it's mostly overlooked. if a woman IDs as BBW, people then get all up in arms over her "audacity" at stating that she's beautiful. well maybe she's self-confident, when the person complaining doesn't think she should be. but ultimately, who gives a damn about the person complaining? =p self-confidence is a beautiful thing and i appreciate people who have it.

OP, have your preferences, have your attractions. do what you want in your own life and your own head. but when you're getting all antsy over what someone else thinks or does in his/her own life, maybe you need to take a step back and re-evaluate.

i'll probably go to my grave wondering the same thing, sexyred1.

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 11:37:45 AM)

Who gets to decide who's beautiful?  And who says it has to be the outside package?  Yup, I'm fat, but I also call myself a BBW.  If someone doesn't like it, then their behindular attitude can take a long walk off a short pier.  Now ain't that easy?

ETA: A "beautiful" person can be rather ugly, a "not so good looking" person can be beautiful.  It's the entire package that counts, not the outside.

sexyred1 -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 11:44:54 AM)

Beauty is in the eye of beholder and the person themselves.

In 2011, there is no true or one standard of beauty, in fact, it is so multicultural and varied, that in itself is beautiful.

I maintain that any man or woman for that matter who has a problem philosophically with those larger women who feel they are beautiful, has a major insecurity problem that manifests itself in the fear that someday, they too, might become fat.

I think they feel it is catching. I read an article about this saying some people don't want to be friends with larger people because they feel it is contagious.

Hilarious on all levels.

The thing is that it doesn't automatically disqualify them either.

I'm not trying to give you crap for your preferences.  I'm just saying that they are yours and they might not be the same for others.  You may not see beauty where other people find it.

You know what can be annoying?  That the term BBW is way more a spot of contention than something like BBM (which would be the male equivalent).  Folks are often held to two different standards based on gender.

DCWoody -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 12:38:29 PM)

Common themes in replies,  as expected -
Assuming (wrongly) I don't like big women.
Assuming (wrongly) I think a fat girl can not be beautiful.
Assuming (did you even think about this for a second? I mean jesus....) that I wouldn't blink at a thin girl self describing as beautiful.
Assuming I'm gettting really pissed off over this issue, rather than just trying to start a more sensible discussion of the term in contrast to the other thread.

"why the fuck is what someone chooses to call themselves annoying to you?"
Like I said, the idea that fat=automatically beautiful bugs me.

"I don't care if a short guy calls himself vertically challenged, or a bald guy calls himself follically challenged" That's different, it's missing the key point I object to....what if every shortarse and baldy started calling themselves SAP(Short Attractive Person) and IBG (Intelligent Bald Guy)?

" "who are you to announce that you're beautiful?" but uh... why should they NOT?"

Because, personally, I find it presumptive, arrogant...and generally off putting. I know that's not the way BBW is intended, it's just overly polite slang for fat, but in general, outside of acronyms, someone saying 'I'm beautiful' is a big turn off, and I would think that there are plenty of people who feel the same way in general....but don't notice/think of it that way when it's BBW. Self aggrandising, is-sort of-the term I'm looking for here.

"Beauty is in the eye of beholder and the person themselves."

I disagree, what someone finds beautiful is individual preference, not an inherent property....although often spoke about as if it were....possibly an individual could find themselves beautiful, but I think it'd be very very dodgy to declare that they were in a list of attributes. "5 ft 11, white, Irish, accountant, beautiful, living in Donegal, seeks partner." ?

A question: Would any of you, outside the term BBW, give a reply including 'beautiful' if asked for a physical description of yourself? What would you think of someone who did?

stellauk -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 12:42:40 PM)

Yes it is annoying to me. It's annoying because a woman has to take on yet another label to justify her existence to counteract the narrow-minded and judgmental opinions of other people who don't make the effort to show any consideration for other people or accept that other people might just be fine and happy being different from what they perceive to be 'normal'.

But you know what really really annoys me?

It's this prevalent attitude held by the Socially Privileged in society, particularly at the top of the social hierarchy and the deluded white, cisgendered, cissexual, middle class male who feels that it really is all about him, all the time and that he has this freedom to regard the Marginalized People of society either as a source of amusement, a cheap thrill or a justifiable target for all his insecurities, fears, prejudices and delusions.

It's also the prevalent attitude expressed by many in the media which reinforces this hierarchy through society to maintain the status quo of pecking order and social engineering which not only results in a deluded sense of Social Privilege among those at the top but also those lower down the social hierarchy resulting what can be perceived as Horizontal Hostility..

You know, like all those black male rap singers with the bling and the baseball caps who oblivious to the struggles and oppression black people have faced throughout history feel justified in targetting homosexuals..

The same thing can be seen with organizations such as the National Institute of Marriage and the 'Marriage between a Man and a Woman is God's way' seeking to define what is and what isn't a marriage for everybody else.

Thing is, perception and perspective are relative to the individual and if you believe in such crap as social privilege and advantage you can actually turn the arguments round on their head.

For example it could be argued that a white, cisgendered, cissexual male who is overweight, got no job, no money, no looks and is over 45 might as well chop his dick off for the amount of action he is going to get.

So okay, people have prejudices. That's fine. People have preferences. Of course, it's only natural. People can be ignorant, stupid, misinformed, uneducated, I get that too.

And people can be unkind, unfair, lacking in compassion, inconsiderate and ill-informed I can get that too. None of us here are perfect.

This isn't about being PC or politically correct, which I personally feel was part of the problem to begin with in dictating to people what they should think, what they should believe and how they should label people.

No, what gets to me is the mental resistance aspect, the stubborn refusal to accept that one is being ignorant, misinformed, bigoted, the lack of introspection, the determination to justify one's prejudices by arguing opinion as fact and the stepping over that line in the sand into pure, unadulterated douchebaggery by making every attempt to derail the topic just because they cannot accept that they are wrong.

Thing is that sense of Social Privilege is an illusion, it doesn't exist in reality, but these guys don't realize that and so they succumb to the media and social pressure to distort their own sense of masculinity and buy into all that machismo and 'think with your dick' crap.

But the thing is at the end of the day this world, society, and other people in general; are all so much bigger than you, none of it is ever going to fit in with the way you think it should be, you're not going to change it, so why waste time and get all upset and bothered over it?

Isn't a little bit of humanity, common sense, and consideration for others that much easier.

I mean, these things don't cost anything, do they? Pity that some people just can't afford them.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 12:44:12 PM)

self-aggrandizing behavior gets irritating, i agree. but at the same time, eh -- people can do/say/think what they want in their spare time, and you're free to look elsewhere, yanno?
i see where you're going though -- some adjectives, when applied to yourself by yourself, do make you seem a little egotistical. i've never really understood why, but at the same time, there are a host of adjectives i would not apply to myself.

Hmmm...I guess I'll just call myself "Challenged" ...its quicker to type without all the qualifiers.

As to the BBW issue. No I have no objection to it all. I can honestly say that no woman I have got to know has been anything less than beautiful. Some of them have been quite physically unattractive, but as I've said before, that's just the packaging. When you buy a box of cookies...do you spend any time admiring the box, or do you rip it open to get at the goodies inside. Yup, I thought so. Its the same with women...get past the externals to whats inside and you'll find a beautiful exquisite creature that is endlessly fascinating. Most of the women I have dated have been larger, despite my dirty old man fetish for the hotties...why? Because a woman who is confident, who is at peace with who and what she is...that's the woman for me. And in my experience these are the larger bodied ones who accept themselves for themselves and see the beauty within (and very often without...don't get me wrong some of you BBWs are smoking hot). Their confidence and self assurance appeals to me...after all, you spend more time talking to them than fucking them.

"I can honestly say that no woman I have got to know has been anything less than beautiful."

I can very much appreciate that, but surely that's a matter of your opinion, not their declaration?

Fair question.  I'll try to give you a fair and honest answer.

I actually don't that often.  When we're talking about the physical, the term beautiful doesn't really come out of Me that much.  I'm much more prone to say that I consider Myself pretty darn average.

However, I can and have used expressions such as "I'm at My most beautiful when I'm with My grandchildren".  It just popped out of My mouth one day because I was completely filled with awe and amazement over her.  I've been known to say that I feel beautiful because of My other half, too because I get overwhelmed with some of the ways he expresses his love for Me.  The stuff in the mirror isn't how I register with beauty.

I forget how long it was ago now that I put up a thread asking why folks didn't see themselves as beautiful.  Sometimes, people don't see in themselves what other people do.  It probably goes back to that being our own worst critic thing.

TheShrew -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 1:08:53 PM)

I can't claim BBW status because I'm barely 5'4."
But my sister is 5'10 so she may be getting up there in qualifying range. {She's big, she's beautiful, she's a woman!}
Then I've a friend who is 6'2" in her bare feet. She must hit the mark!  {I dare you to tell her she neither big, beautiful nor a woman.}
.. *beams with pride at all her deducing* .. {did I win a prize?}

In all seriousness, do we really need more labels with which to categorize, compartmentalize, and traumatize ourselves? Big, tall, short, small .. WTF does it matter? We have boobs .. men love us. That is all.

mistoferin -> RE: Is the term BBW annoying? (3/15/2011 1:12:28 PM)

Wow. Not sure at all if I'm a BBW or not....probably am to some folks and not to others. I am a woman and I am fucking beautiful though. I am also intelligent, funny, caring, sensitive, tough as nails, sexy, competent and a whole host of other things. As a matter of fact, I fucking ROCK and I don't think I'm arrogant, presumptious or self aggrandising to say so. All it means is that I'm happy being me. You may or may not agree with my assessment but that sure won't change mine.

Why is it that some folks aren't happy unless they are stealing somebody else's happy???
