when a lot of folks get their first introduction to the leather community ... a lot of them have the feeling of coming "home".  There's some kind of spark in them somewhere when they are in the same physical location with leather people the first time, that they know they belong there.  That piece to the puzzle all makes sense.

So, if I accept that this happens in the leather community, I have to believe it happens in other communities as well.  I have to think that there are folks out there who pick up that first Gorean book and say, "Oh My Gosh...... This".  It might just speak to them in the same way.

And how is this different than coming out as gay?  <=== Rhetorical question. LOL!

Yes, finding one's niche is a profoundly moving experience.  The Gor books are profound, but in a different way.  Namely, the same way Robert Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" affected me when I was ~ 18 / 19 in college.

They both present a Utopian world. They are both attractive in the possibility of leading the type of life explained.  And so on, you get my drift.  I guess the point is simply "Gor books are fiction."  We could list all the wonderful BDSM guides that aren't.  And that summarizes my caution to the OP!

My best suggestion to you would be read through the threads that interest you. Find those who you feel have similiar beliefs as you do, then ask questions. That is all I can think of to add to Lady Pact's great advice!

As far as the gor boards, if you approach them on an honest level, and are willing to take some criticism, then they can also be a wealth of information.

I concur with this ...

Not going to comment on the Gorean debate since it is against TOS anyway other than to say, had it not been for the people I know and love who are still part of the Gorean Lifestyle (and who would never wander on the boards here or FL) , I would never have entered BDSM as such. I learned as much about Mastery from patient Gorean masters with experience in slave ownership and training as I did from experienced kajirae. personally, I use the kajira training as a template to train any girls I may have.  The boards here appear to have settled down now that the "God of Gor" has departed to FL (thank god for that).....

Dommy Guy.... You are still an assholer but I've learned to love ya (like a pimple on my ass annoying but necessary to help me know my ass is still there)..

[Going to say that I'm in the process or rebuilding my profile and will be back with a new nic too as the profile will be for a couple]

Thanks to everyone who replied with helpful information. I understand that labeling myself as "Master" was a rough way to start off. I figured that since that is what my slave calls me that is what my role in the lifestyle is which has now been made clear that to run one must first walk. Thank you to LanceHughes for you words of advice and polite matter. Being a beginner in this lifestyle there is a lot more I have to learn. I learn from my slave since she has been involved in this longer than I have. As well as so has everyone else on this site so I hope to learn from all of you as well as on my own as much as I can and eventually become a proper Master. As far as my picture goes I cover my eyes because I cant take a picture without closing my eyes LOL trust me this is much better than what it could be. Thanks to everyone for your input the good and the bad because it helps me learn and improve myself.

Hey, thank you. It is always gratifying to see that kind of advice coming from people who make posts like this one.

Now that I am a little tipsy I can ask what it is that makes you guys tick.clearly there is something that makes you guys tick im just trying to understand more or less what is it exactly, maybe it's just my sad drunken stuper that i am realizing this but BUT i would still like to know why is it that you do the things you do. Whether it is crime related or not I would like him to realize I am a good guy.

A couple things. For the record, I like your picture. I like that you're here asking questions and being inquisitive as a way to make yourself a better person in an area that is meaningful to you. I like that your profile although brief has interests that are not all sex and kink.

In your latest posting you talk about being a good guy. You can be a good guy- who likes to hurt the women he is with. It's not all black and white. The reason I am drawn to my guy is precisely because he's a good guy. Even though he hurts me sometimes. What makes a Dominant tick is inside of him, it's a drive, a need. I am not a Dominant, but I can see what is there in front of my eyes. I'm wondering if you are embracing who you are instead of fighting it?

If I might make a suggestion I'd do more of what you are doing...which is to learn as much as you can about the subjects here that interest you and then see how it all applies to you and what you want. It sounds simple but it's the hardest thing sometimes, to know what to ask for.

I find that folks do better reading the experiences of others as they come through on the boards.  It doesn't seem to work as well when people say, "tell of all of your experiences".  That's like asking someone to sit down and write some equivalent of "War and Peace" on a message board.

It's very hard to sit here and explain why people here do the things that they do.  At least, it is in My case because it's very multi-dimensional.  I have various motivations and the one that I'm focusing on can change in an instant.  Power, control, authority, protocol, sadism, or any other thing might be the basis of why I want to do this thing depending on which is important to Me at the moment.

why do i do it? because the first moment i bumped into a dominant-and i didn't even know the word-i literally trembled, groped for breath, and found myself drenched.  as an educated, professional, independent feminist, that got my attention
