Okay,I am one of those,to my ever lasting shame, that is hooked on American Idol....The show is now at that all important, for the contestants, point where they whittle it down to the magic number 10.Those ten,no matter where they finish, are guaranteed a years tour following the conclusion of the show.
So being the last eliminated, number 11 sent home sucks.Judges(Randy Jennifer and Mr,Steven Tyler) have the ability to save one performer if they feel the voters have screwed up...or the body of work outweighs one bad performance....the singer who has received the least votes that week sings a song,his/hers last chance to sway the panel of three.
This week in a surprise Casey,a bright spot in this seasons lineup was voted off.....immediately you could see the surprise on the judges faces....well as per the formula Casey started singing....when Randy could be seen waving him off....the unanimous decision from the judges  was the the voting was so out of whack...Casey had no need to sing for his salvation.....song unsung they were using their one save to retain him.
My question is this....do you watch? If so do you vote?
I watch, but I can't be bothered with voting....I figure the rest of America can get it right, perhaps I should start voting.

p.s. I know this is a silly thread.....but fuck it....i want to see who else here watches, and here their comments about tonight's show.

I haven't watched since Bo.  I came, I saw, and nobody could beat him, in My eyes.

Haven't watched an episode since.

The show sucks since it's a popularity contest.

The winners never go anywhere.

Just put yourself on YouTube and hope to get noticed.

I watch it. Mike. I'm hooked too.

I was shocked tonight when Casey was in the final 3, and dumbfounded when he was last. He's not my fave, but he is in my top 3. James is my fave. No, I don't vote either.

I am iffy on the judges this season as I am an admitted Simon Cowell fan. I think Steven and Jennifer are mush too easy on all of them and give them no input as to how to progress and how to make songs their own and pick songs that are good for them. They both like everything pretty much. I think that was Casey's problem this week. That song didn't work for him, imo.

i used to watch the uk version and will still watch the initial auditions. however, as is the way with all these shows, it turns in to a money making sceme and the original idea of the show is lost. judges send people home who are far better than some of the crap that goes through to the last stages who very obviously can't sing. you then wonder how they keep getting through what the whole country is in uproar about it. you may well vote, but your vote counts as a cash cow only. i think that true winners are very often over looked.

all these pannel judge talent shows are the same. the only part worth watching is the auditions.

mbmb...yep I was just as shocked ,as far as I'm concerned Casey has as much chance as anyone to have the honor of losing to James(looking forward to Tyler performing with James in the last show;-)
Needles....yes ,the auditions are the highlight, its is quite amusing to watch folks who have no business auditioning be shocked when they are told no....lol,perhaps there is just a touch of sadist in my masochistic heart..lol.

I pretty much lost interest in AI after Carrie Underwood won (sorry, LadyP, she was my fave! We had a big Bo/Carrie rivalry at work that year, lol ) This year, however, I tuned in at the beginning, and really think the show got a much-needed shot in the arm. I like the new judges panel, I think they do tell it like it is, but don't callously rip the singers apart like Simon did, to get ratings, which he did, much to his profits since he pretty much owned the show. I think the show got a major facelift, which it needed badly.

I also think the contestants this year are amazingly talented, especially with most of them being so young. The results could go any way, depending on who and how many vote. You have to remember, a large percentage of voters are teenagers, so they're going to vote for who appeals to them, even if someone less adorable obviously has more talent. I think Casey deserved the 'save', though, he showed a LOT of diversity and talent in the preliminaries, and I think he's a very gifted musician & performer.

Pia, as the judges are saying, is pretty much the next Celine Dion. My personal favorites are Haley, Jacob & Thia.

That's my two cents. I'm in for the season, lol. And since I live alone, and no one I work with is watching it, if you want to come back here and talk about it each week, slavemike, I'm game :)

I haven't watched AI yet.  I need to catch up on all my shows lol.

I did love the year with BO/Carrie ... I was torn between those two.  I did love Bo's rendition of Vehicle and Carrie's Sin Wagon.

agree to your view, though its a bit tiring considering that even those are staged for entertainment, considering the contestants have to perform at first in front of another panel who then decides if they are put through to the stage singing or not

unless they have such a special taste...considering some of the folks who sing at the auditions

I personally like the apprentica as I enjoy to observe how people work together as a team (or not), how they implement leadership good (or not so good) and how they tolerate being lead...on top of that the variety of the tasks.

Recently they showed here again the Apprentice USA...which I was glad about, with here currently being a break from the UK version...though I wasnt impressed to realise that this one was from 2007

i can't believe i'm admitting this but i have been a faithful and devoted watcher AND voter since season 1. my normal amount of votes i send out PER contestant is always at least 50 but towards the final cuts i have been known to go up to 300. O.0

yes, i know, it might be ridiculous but what can i say? - i love AI!!!!

MY faves/pics for this year are James, Casey and Paul. I lean heavily to the rocker side of music and while I can appreciate the voice and talent of Jacob, it's not my style and it gets on my nerves after a while. That said, he's a phenominal singer.

James is my Little Tourette's Rocker. I like his " story " as much as I like his talent. Having known someone with Tourette's, I know how difficult it can be on a younger person to live and be amongst " normal " kids when you have such an odd affliction. besides I like the fact that he's humble. Just an all round good guy, imo.

I was/am a Simon fan, as I said. I really don't think he was mean or as I prefer to say, expremely blunt, for the sake of being mean or blunt, I really think that is just him. I could be naive and it could be because I have a huge crush complete with wild fantasies about him. I have a very sarcastic, often cutting sense of humor, which can be hard for some to take, and that is probably what I find most attractive about him. I really don't like Jennifer as a judge, she's wishy washy to me. Steven,, well.. what can I say: I'm a Boston girl who saw and hung with Aerosmith before they made it in local Kenmore Square venues . So Steven has a big piece of my heart. Just as I think Simon's " meaness " is genuine, I think Steven's kindness/respectfulness is genuine. And I do soo hope that James makes it to sing with Steven at the end.

Count me in for coming back to this thread Wed and/or Thursday to discuss the latest happenings.

I'll be here...by the way ,as far as I'm concerned when my arm is being twisted(by a vicious Mistress for instance) I can tolerate other forms of music...but the only way to go is Rock and Roll, the harder the better

I have only watched AI one time. I think it was a season finale. Adam Lambert wore this hideously ridiculous Edward Scissorhands costume and performed with KISS.

Actually I think that's an insult to Pia.  She kicks ass.  Celine does not.

LOVE Casey.  His "I Put a Spell On You" was insane!

I missed last week, unfortunately, but checked in online.  Tonight should be interesting!  I love Pia., Casey, Jacob and Lauren.  Steven Tyler was the best thing that happened to that show.  Cue in the hotness factor, plus I just love his comments and facial expressions.

Yeah, I admit it. I'm hooked this year.

Well I watched it and damm what a tough decision ,two of the folks have to go home...they really have some talented singers this year.Well my bottom three would be Stefano,I don't know why I don't like him,,,,I can't really put my finger on it,but his performances leave me cold *shrug*,it's not that he is bad...just doesn't do anything for  me.Paul, who I do like,I thought was weak this weak and the voters might just reflect that ...and finally young Thea...who has a very sweet voice, but I just don't think that at this stage in her growth has enough power in that voice to stay with this group.
A dark horse for cracking the bottom three would be Scotty, country fans better have dialed their little fingers to the bone. Not sure how long he can stick...without having the ability to successfully leave his comfort zone and sing something other than straight country.
None of the other performers can in anyway ,shape or form wind up in the bottom three without me throwing something at the tv screen

I don't like Stefano, either, too been-there done-that for me. As well as Thia, I like her voice, but she needs to just mature. I think Scotty is in for a longer haul, though.

I did love that flaming piano.....

I fully understand LaTige...I resisted for years,I take my music seriously...but somewhere along the 5th season I allowed myself to watch...I think it was the early audition shows, where people who have absolutely no business doing so ,actually try out.It is hilarious...and sets you up for the season, because along the way,in between the laughter some serious voices are heard.
