French. It's a beautiful language (except when I speak it), but the French they speak in Ontario is strange.

One day I was at Costco (a big warehouse-style club store) and there was a bird flying around in the store. There was a French Canadian family near me, and the bird fluttered by. One of the daughters pointed and said...

"O r'gard le tit birdie, comme il est cute!"

It ain't English, it ain't French...its Joual.

Frenglish?

I've often wondered about the color thing.

I speak Gerglish.  (Engman?)

Whoa! MB, you are the only other person I have ever come across who hasn't thought the idea was insane!

I feel vindicated!

Personally, I'd like to have The Cure take a shot at "People are Strange"...or maybe The Smiths.
Laughs. Do a house techno remix with a good bass loop.

Funny thread. I was talking bout this very topic with the lil one this weekend.

I always wanted to hear Frank Sinatra do a version of Janes Addictions "Been Caught Stealing."
Can't you just hear him going, A Da Da Da Da Da Da Da, Dada Da, Da daaaaaaaaaa (and then maybe a leg kick)

I'd also like to hear someone superduper hard core punk (like Pennywise or the Buzzcocks) redo "The Devil Went Down To Georgia," as a thrash song. I think the shit would just rage.

Yeah, I got lots of these. I could go on all day.

Arpig, what you heard about the bird was Franglais.  And anyone who speaks like that is either from Vanier or Gatineau.  Has to be, I've heard it spoken often and that's how my dad's side of the family would say it.

**Official Franglais/Vanier-Gatineau French Canadian Translator**

French Ontario version:  Ahh, r'garde le p'tsit oiseau, y'et tu pas cute?

I could swear I've heard it done.  Might have been a local band though, I tend to hit the tiny shows that happen in little basement bars around Baltimore.

You an ottobar fan, MB?
How bout Sonar, or the Sidebar?

Edited to add that yeah, Primus did a version of DWDTG, but I'd like to see something a bit more hardcore.
The video is awesome though...

Mostly a Sidebar kind of guy, though Ottobar works for me too.  I heard that The Adicts were there recently, but I missed them because I was seeing The Pogues in NYC that day.

I haven't been to Sidebar in ages, which is somewhat pathetic because I live within a few miles. I need to check out their website....
I used to hit Sonar a lot, but some friends have had some issues with, ahem, upper upper mgmt, so I don't hit it up that much anymore.

I've never been to Sonar.  I almost went last summer to see the Casualties, but the risk of possibly having to sit through Gwar's ridiculous sideshow performance was too much.

I'm with you on that. I've seen G'war one time too many, or maybe more than that...
Sonar's not so shabby for an indy club-it's got the right feel/look/booze/urine/old needles ambiance, but it's real wide, and the ceilings low, so it has lousy sound. I caught Ministry there a while back and it was like standing in a blast tunnel-my ears hurt for days.
Now, the Troc in Philly, now there's an indy bar...

The late great Johnny Cash once told someone it wasn't about the singer it was about the song, and that if he had something to say about a song he would do his version of it.

Having said that I would love to hear People are strange come out of Nick Cave. Can someone make that happen for me.
