Wait, wait, I know this one! If someone asks if I am a god, I say... YES! (Sorry, just watched that movie.)

Seriously though, I think you've got things a little backwards. Dominants arn't god, the Juedo/Christian God is a dominant. A daddy dom if I've ever seen one too.

I've been called a god (As in "My God My God My God".)

Of course, I've also been called "You Goddammed Sadistic Bastard."

I like both.

It made me wonder, do any of you think that we use a D/s relationship as a form of worship in our psyche, attaching the same fervor to it that zealots do to Christ?

Greetings,

i wrote about this on another site when the question was raised a few days ago. i'll share a portion of what i noted over there:

It isn't a matter of wanting the individual to be God, but the willingness to acknowledge the divine presence i encounter in him (and others) and paying homage. my slavery has never been entrenched in the purely physical. There was always a spiritual undercurrent that imparted a heavy influence on the philosophies and progress i attained. i don't perceive my union as something wholly begotten by choice. i'm more inclined to believe i was made for Him instead; a living sacrifice presented for His Keeping. i see myself as His vessel and i enjoy that form of relating a great deal. But its realization must have a mutual complement.

i can't exalt a man that doesn't see Himself in that capacity beforehand. The responsibility of being my Keeper and Guide require a person that's already worked those things out within themselves. We can't dance on the planes if he's tied to the ground. The thought of leaving would be hard to fathom. We're coiled and the caduceus cannot be separated without severe damage occurring.

Namaste,

~porcelaine

Weird, I was just chattering about this from a completely different perspective not five minutes ago.  It might be a little off/on topic, but I was told to post another view that might be worth sharing, so I shall.

I've never thought about it from the religion perspective.  It's an interesting concept, but for me on a logical basis it doesn't ring true.  It's also why I don't use it either, I'm an english geek, go figure.

I've always looked at, and discussed, this exact same topic from an english language point of view.  In the english language, capital letters outside of the beginning of sentences denote things of importance to what we are writing - names, monuments, countries, etc. etc.

At the risk of sounding condescending (I'm not trying to, just trying to illustrate as clearly as possible what I mean) here's an example -

~Graham is my owner, I am completely his.

Now in the context of online kink, that would commonly be typed -

~Graham is my Owner, i am completely His.

The problem I have with this is the shift of importance.  Most of the time it's not even thought about, but sentence composition like that to me at least sends the subconcious message of relinquishing total importance to a dominant.

For a TPE, I can see how this one works, depending on the TPE.  But outside of that, especially around dominants that aren't a sub/slave's actual owner...I'm of the firm belief that oneself is always of importance, and a dominant should know that as well.

So to me, personally.  No I don't think I subconciously do, because I don't use it.  I can't speak for others, but I was told to bring up another possible perspective behind the capital letters.

Sorry it's long-winded!

Now, I know these are very broad generalizations so please don't take this as something directed at anyone/thing personally, I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just wondering from a psychological stand-point what everyone's thoughts on this are.

He makes the rain fall in the form of my tears, determines the direction that my world spins on any given day at any given moment. He can crush me at his whim with words or silence. He also brings out the hell in me, sets me on fire, brings me to the edges. He is my most ardant protector and I am never safer than when I am with him but he's also the darkest presence in my life and I'm never in more danger than when I am with him. At times I am obsessed with him and can't get enough and other times I am grateful for a reprieve from his intensity by his outlandish sense of humor.

I am in kneeling, obedient servitude to his will and laws, following his path and teachings, revering parts of our journey as sacred and others as sacriligious.

Damn right I worship him as a God.. just not The God.

I don't see the conflict here. There are certainly religions / philosophies with the viewpoint that each person is divine. So, no I don't see this as an issue as far as - Is a person a g*d? Sure, we ALL have that divinity in us, or so the believers say. But let's not forget, that means that everyone - not just people on one side of the seesaw - is divine.

best,
sunshine

BitaTruble, that was beautiful. I feel like you just gave my mind a flower. :) In fact I am probably quoting you in my journal so I can keep that around to read whenever I want to. I'm glad so many of you just went off on random craziness. I know this could have become a very tedious discussion, arguing specifics and semantics. Happy to see that everyone got where I am coming from and I'm not the only one who has made this connection.
