The tea party!!!!
If Boehner fails to cut enough from the budget, Mark Meckler of the Tea Party Patriots told the Associated Press, Tea Partiers could mount a primary challenge against the speaker. Meckler said "you're going to see massive amounts" of primary challenges against Republican lawmakers, including Boehner, next year if Republicans go along with the plan to cut $33 billion. Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation already said in a message to his organization today that "Boehner must go." "The Tea Party must unite and make sure Boehner is replaced in the next election," he wrote. "We need people in leadership who are committed to cutting spending and eliminating these programs."Yep they just are'nt doing enough with the budget figures and making noises

This is where it will develop whether or not the TEA party groups will stay Republican or not.

Basically, the Republican Party was given a chance ... if they fuck it up, and act just like "Dems Lite", then either the party will be completely taken over, or the TEA party members will seek other avenues.

I dont see them acting Dem Lite to be honest, they will be left of the teaparty tho. JMHO
But signs arent good for either of them, Mitt Romney or Cris Christie are looking to be the best of a bad bunch
But I do see that its a ways to go yet

If only they could actually stop whitewashing their inabilities so far

Boehner is no fool. He knows who will be blamed by the public for a shutdown so he has to come up with a budget bill that can pass the Senate and get Obama's signature. The House freshman that seem content to spend their time being ideologically pure and getting nothing done are basically handing the GOP another drubbing in 2012. Every time the tea party types primary a Republican it just makes life easier for Democrats.

But Boehner is without a doubt between a rock and a hard place.On the one hand any shut down will be laid at the feet of the Republican party...and should essential services be interrupted(why is my SS check late) the party will face a backlash in the voting booth.Meanwhile the tea party members are waging a cultural war under the cover of reducing the deficit.
Make no mistake here,these folks aren't worried so much about the size of the deficit as much as the targets of the programs they want cut(Planned Parenthood,NEA et al)...it is Culture War 101 to these folks with Boehner as the hostage.
I wonder if he is crying over the situation?

You do realize how the teabaggers are dividing the Republican Party and how the Democrats will end up benefiting?

That is my take on it too RML,the tea baggers will do more damage to the Republican party than the religious right has.And that is quite a feat in my eyes

What you on the left can't seem to wrap your head around is a government shutdown would be seen as a victory on our side, we NEED to stop spending money, we know it will be painful, but someone has to step up and become more fiscally responsible.

Essential services will not be interrupted, despite all the doom and gloom predictions of the left.

Boehner just isn't doing a good enough job, and he's starting to feel the heat for assuming he could run the house business as usual.

It is irresponsibly premature to accuse the conservatives (rinos, republicans, neo-cons, and nutsuckers) of fiscal responsibility now or at some future time; simultaneously, it is irresponsibly inaccurate to accuse them of fiscal responsibility in the past.

What I realize is that Obama has divided this country politically and racially moreso than any other POTUS in my lifetime.

Another thing I realize is that if the government gets shut down it will be Obama's and Democrats fault for not enacting a 2011 Budget last year when the Republicans couldn't do anything to stop them.

What you tea baggers do not seem to understand is that if you keep splitting your party due to ideological purity tests....you will hand elections to the Democrats.You also seem to underestimate the intelligence of the American voter...when one looks at the deficit...and than sees that tea baggers are threatening to shut down the gov't over 33 billion,a mere drop in the bucket when one looks at the big picture,   Those same voters recognize a culture war when they see one,they see the tea bag attacking Planned Parenthood's budget,while ignoring and actually increasing the Defense budget.They understand that 33 billion does not do anything...and to put folks thru those painful times you speak of over this pittance is a fucking joke.
