I didn't post in the gay marriage section because I'm not on all that much. Charles jackknifed into a tangent on gay marriage and I had dealt directly with the dip-shit Congressman, Nadler, and so it was apropo to include it. Charles clearly didn't understand the letter. I don't know anyone that opposes domestic partnership arrangements or super-beautiful-rainbow-love-castles (the letter to Nadler must be read to understand that characterization). The problem is one of definition not equal rights. Gays, lesbians, transexuals, heterosexuals should all be able to enter into a civil union and receive all the emoluments that a married couple receive and, of course, there union should only be able to be dissolved in a court of law where the rights and liabilities of each party are determined. That is my opinion, at least. As far as SlaveMike4u, he is a bloviator who adds nothing to a conversation. You can trust SlaveMike to post stuff that is utterly devoid of facts, statistics, law or even the opinion of someone SlaveMike considers and authority on a subject. What is the essential difference between liberals and conservatives? Conservatives oppose confiscatory taxation and a strong central government and liberals beleive in a secular state with the kind of social contract that was proposed by Rousseau. That is basicially it. The Founders were conservatives....every one of them......except for Hamiliton who wanted a Monarchy. Look...very shortly, it will all be irrelevant. The republicans want 61 billion dollars slashed from the budget. That will do NOTHING. The undeniable fact for those who are not too stupid to understand it is that our debt will exceed our GDP and vastly so. There are examples of when that has happened, the Weimar Republic in Germany for one. But you are going to see modern day examples all over Europe. There was a guy on here who called himself Fargle or something. He had a tag line that said something to the effect that it is not often you get to see a culture collapse and that we were in for one hell of a ride. He and I were opposed in a lot of what we believe. But we both beleived in his tag line, just for the opposite reasons.
