How about you rationalizing criminalizing it in the first place. Not that I care. If I want LSD I'll go find some, probably faster than a used car. But if I drink and don't bother anyone that's OK tight ? So if I trip and don't bother anyone that's not OK right ?

You rationalize this bullshit, I do whatever I want and they can go fuck themselves and the horse they rode in on.

T^T
Term, this is a great post...as a matter of fact I wish I had responded exactly like this when the question was posed to me.
You have pretty much encapsulated my very outlook on the subject....I don't give a shit about this nations drug laws...I am a white, middle aged(actually past...lol)man, the chances of me running afoul of these silly laws are slim and none.I don't fit the profile....so I do what I like with relative immunity ,bother no one and am ,in turn am bothered by no one.

The tax thing that's been raised is another issue for legalisation, of course. It's puzzling that no government wants the vast amounts of cash that are going to the pondlife who are producing cocaine* and dope to instead stay in their country and be taxed. That'd raise a lot of revenue.

*(Don't even get me started on the sort of wanker who makes a big deal of buying fairtrade coffee and choccies but is quite happy for the cocaine cartels to murder people and employ slave labour so that they can keep powdering their noses...)

If it was a single ride, she likely got a bad batch, Aylee, which I consider an argument for a legalization type reform, rather than decriminalization. Or she may have been very fragile to begin with, in her psychological relation to the world.

Acid does produce 'casualties', but mostly, that's a consequence of prolonged, heavy to extreme use.

If I understood correctly at the time it was B) prolonged, heavy to extreme use.
People who have long-term difficulties with psychedelics usually have psychological problems to begin with.

BTW, there is no such thing as a "bad batch" of LSD. Either something is LSD, or it is not. Either something is sodium chloride, or it is not.

Dude. That's too bad about Bear. I met him a bunch of times back in the early 80's. He sold crystals and such on Dead tour for a couple years.
Good guy, seemed real cool for someone with his notoriety. And of course, one of the seminal figures of the 60's, though that all meat diet didn't quite stick.

The O was a regular visitor @ the Taper's pit till 95. I have one of his cast gold steely belt buckles. And was treated to many of his 'crackers' over the years. He was a nice guy in my book. He is survived by Cosmic Charlie from Maine.

And if we're going to pay the man tribute, why not by HIS band?

Er, didn't a few of the Dead take serious issue with the idea that they were 'his' band? I know that Phil Lesh and the first dead keyboards player had serious problems with that...

Prohibition has been an expensive failure that has achieved, in real terms, the opposite of its goals. Drugs are as popular and plentiful as ever. The US drug economy is far bigger than many Third World GNPs. Can there be a more compelling sign of failure than that?

Yes. Absolutely. I agree with you. (I'm having a once-in-a-lifetime moment! ) Besides I like some drugs and I can't abide alcohol (the Government-sponsored drug is such a low-class drug)

I happen to think the psychedelics should be at least decriminalized.

There's still that problem of people doing really dumb things while tripping. As long as the occasional person is jumping out windows etc. the psychodelics will never be acceptable.

The occasional person jumping out of a window might spice things up a bit. Don't see a problem with it as long as nobody is standing at street level directly under the window.

Society shouldn't be about people protecting people from themselves.

I've heard it said that if alcohol had not been legalized and there was an effort to try to legalize it today, that effort would fail.

Who have you heard that from?

Wait, don't tell me, let me guess that it was MADD, our modern day temperance movement.

The temperance movement that led to Prohibition did nothing to stop the consumption of alcohol, it only turned it into a criminal enterprise.

The same type of gang warfare we see now with prohibited drugs.

Of course, that urban legend got its start from Art Linkletter. The slimeball used LSD AS the scapegoat for his daughter's suicide.
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/drugs/linkletter.asp

LSD is safer than aspirin. And it's nearly infinitely safer than alcohol. I agree with Tweakabelle (we seem to agree on almost everything, with one notable exception, and even then...); alcohol IS a low-class drug. It's legal because it's historically the easiest drug to make. In the case of wine, it makes itself. And that fact made it ubiquitous throughout most of the world from at least the time of the Egyptians. The drug became embedded in the cultures of Christiandom. It's been "grandfathered" by every culture on the planet, excepting Islam, and even there, there is no strict prohibition that can be found in the koran.

The ONLY reason other drugs are banned is because of racism in the US.

This is why it's always a good idea to actually read a thread before commenting.

Why don't you go in your back yard and play with your fresnell lenses and cold-fusion reactors, sonny.

If you were an actual person instead of some hippie wannabe fraud I might be upset at that. No eyes watering for you, sorry.

Where's the hippie love I hear so much about? Peace and all? lol
