90 Sq. Ft. $700/month

I've lived in some small apartments in my time, but this is ridiculous especially at $700/month. I don't care if it is NYC, I've seen bigger closets. Would you pay that much for something like this?

I thought our place in Milan was small! We paid $3700 a month for 320 sq feet but that was the going rate and we didn't have a lot of choices there.

Yes I could easily do that. I'm a very minimalist person and that's extremely cheap for NYC, seeing as most apartments there run you from $2,000 and up. If you find anything cheaper than that then it's a steal and that's just a complete bargain.

That's much bigger than the space I lived in for about $500 per month in Seoul. So, I guess my answer is yes. In fact I would often tell people that it was like living in NYC. When I needed to sit in a comfy chair, I went to a coffee shop. I also built UP. You learn to live within your space. I loved it. There were negatives, but all in all, it wasn't too bad.

You might also be interested in the small home movement and also the people who live aboard sailboats, RVs, in vans, etc.

That's one of the reasons I could never live in the heart of a city. I love spreading out, I hate where I live but I love apartment, it's somewhere around +/-700 sq ft and less than the one in the OP. Hell, my living room is bigger than that apartment. Only down side is aside from being in the middle of nowhere it's a bitch to heat in the winter.

Yeesh, no thanks. I think I was paying about $750 a month or so for a 250 Sq. Ft. apartment in Brooklyn, and that was about 5 years ago. Id hate to see what they are now.

I would go crazy being in that room for more than 5 minutes. I'll take my home in the burbs (1500 sq ft) anytime. Mine is paid for.

Check out Jay Shafer and his Tumbleweed houses!

http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/

Now, the funny thing is that my house is about 3500 sq ft, (and paid for) but day to day, I mostly live in my office area, which is about...you guessed it...90 sq ft!

As for this apartment, it serves the need, but I think that the landlord is a bit greedy to carve a normally larger apartment into a tiny space like that!

Yep. My house is quite large, 3500 sf, I hate it. I started out loving it, being excited, so hopeful. Fast foward 2,3 years.. It's not done yet, I mean yes we comfortably live in it, and the outside is lovely, but the interior is never ending, it's too expensive, we argue about it non-stop, and I would trade with that New Yorker well...in a NY minute. I mean that with total sincerity. I eat breathe sleep and worry finances. This house getting done being one, and the expanse, while nice, is really making me hate the house itself as a seperate entity. Wierd I know, its been a long week and my mind is rattly, sorry. Houses can destroy homes believe that.
I see the teeny little apartment in NYC (my favorite place in the world) as as wide open and freeing for me as the Taj Mahal. I envy her breathing space there because I can guarantee its more than I have here.

This earns the TIS award - Termy Is Speechless.

Yes she has breathing space, if she stands up in the tub just right. Know what else ? To coin/borrow a phrase from FukinTroll, she is plenty slurpable, but I wonder how to get that done. I mean, I would probably be hitting my head on the cieling all the time. Getting hit in the head can be a pain in the ass. And where are the toys ? The handcuffs, the leather, you know.

I should go give her a slurp, really. And in a place like that I bet she won't get fat. Pretty much impossible I would say. Yup, I have a new crush. And she writes ? Man this is the cat's ass. The only problem with NY is you NEED a car. Not to drive around in NY, to GET OUT of NY. That means another 90 square feet, just for the car.

T^T

I have a large home right now which I'm trying to sell. I absolutely hate it. It's a money pit, there's constant work to be done on it, it's a pain to always have to clean even though it's just me who lives here and it's just way too bit and eating way too many of my expenses needlessly.

I can't wait to sell it and find a much much smaller place where I can actually get on with living and enjoying the things I want to do instead of digging a deeper financial hole with a big useless house.

My place is pretty tiny (a bit less than 300 sq ft), but it's just me and 2 geckos. I pay $400/mo including electricity, trash, water, parking and internet access. Given the average rent in SoCali, I'm doing ok

When I was married, the now ex and I lived in a 800 sq ft apt that made me nuts because it was so small and we were always tripping over each other (and not in a good way). One thing I learned from my divorce is that a single person can live comfortably in less than half the space that 2 people can. I suspect that it has something to do with having a place for your stuff!

There's no room for the cats and their stuff..otherwise, I kinda like it (and it would make me pare down on the amount of STUFF I have)

I love that little place!! I could happily live there. I have very little stuff. Course I'd have to lose a hundred lbs give or take.

I would have no problem with a place that size....I have a thing for tiny homes.

Currently, I live in a cottage that is just under 400 sq ft...3 rooms and a nice yard and a tiny patio out back where I like to hang out/entertain when the weather isn't too cold or rainy. My rent is less than most 1 bedroom apts. in the area and I'm commutable distance to NYC.

When you live small, less is best and you need to move up to make it work. I have no interest in living in a place any larger than I'm already in.

Here's a couple links for those who're also into small spaces...

ETA.....My mom found a letter I wrote to my dad when I was 6 yrs old asking him to build a little house just for me so I could be on my own but still be nearby. He did (a little shed that was 5 ft by 9ft ) and I've been hooked ever since!

Anyone else notice that most of the females on this thread like little places, and most of the males don't?
