defiantbadgirl -> Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 9:31:23 AM)

Any time the subject of single-payer health care was brought up, republicans whined about "death panels." Fast forward to the GOP's proposed budget cuts. It appears that republican leaders want to put spending caps on medicare and medicaid. This could be a death sentence for some who suffer from chronic illness. How can anyone worried about "death panels" not be against spending caps on medical care? Why aren't more republicans outraged at what their leaders are proposing?

DomKen -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 10:21:33 AM)

Because these people firmly believe that they will never need any government help and that anyone who does deserves to die. The fact that what happened to me could happen to anyone escapes their attention.

Lucylastic -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 11:38:49 AM)

Basically for the vast majority of social conservatives they will only care when it hits them personally or someone they love,  until then, they dont wanna know.

Lucy, you hit the nail on the head, there.  They're sacred answer to profitable insurance companies will be their nightmare.

Its a sad state of affairs for sure. So if you are on assistance and in a nursing home. You reach the limit. What are they going to do kick grandma out?

You should send that one off to the DNC. Its short, to the point, and no bullshit. I do find that when it comes to social conservatives a distrubingly high trend of selfishness among them. That to care for someone or something beyond their shallow and narrow personality, is to be a bad thing.

Everyone keeps talking about budget cuts. Why do we keep ignoring the 800 pound Space Hamster in the room (you thought I was going to say gorilla, eh?)? We could cut spending, which works against us in the long run, or raise taxes to deal with problems. Last I checked, conservatives are responsible (thanks to their voting record) of nearly 84% of the US Debt. Maybe we should just require they pay for it, instead of the rest of us....

Sanity -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 2:56:58 PM)

There is no money. What are we going to do?

The Dems didnt pass a budget last year at all when they were the majority party in both houses, they voted 'present' so they hardly have standing to piss and moan when the Republicans do submit a budget proposal.

This from Bloomberg:

quote:

Obama said the nation must deal simultaneously with the recession and the budget shortfalls. If not, “we risk sinking into another crisis down the road,” he said at a White House summit on fiscal responsibility that brought together lawmakers, business and labor leaders and academics.

“As our interest payments rise, our obligations come due, confidence in our economy erodes and our children and our grandchildren are unable to pursue their dreams because they’re saddled with our debts,” he said. “That’s why today, I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office.”

But neither he nor his party passed a budget at all, everything he and his party pledge is completely hollow. But when it comes time to bitch when someone else is actually doing something theres no one better at that than a Leftist.

Hillary Clinton on the deficit:

"It poses a national security threat in two ways: it undermines our capacity to act in our own interest, and it does constrain us where constraint may be undesirable,"

http://realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/09/08/hillary_clinton_us_debt_sends_a_message_of_weakness_internationally.html

A good analysis of why the ballooning deficit is a serious National Security threat

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703422904575039173633482894.html

So, where are the serious Dem proposals to trim these record deficits? They admit theres a real problem, but where are their solutions?

housesub4you -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:08:06 PM)

Gee....you make it sound like the GOP is doing anything...Lets see a republican taking money away from the poor, women and children.  Yea boy that sure is going to do a lot to balance the budget

Why not cut corporate welfare for a start, why won't the GOP grow a pair and talk about that, or even cutting back on paying farmers not to grow food, or hell even close a few tax loopholes....Because that takes balls and no one in the GOP has any and they do not have the courage to stand up to people like the Koch brothers,

No instead they pat themselves on the back for making cuts like these

The Bill Would Kick More Than 200,000 Kids Out Of Preschool: H.R. 1 features billions of dollars of cuts to the Head Start program, which would end access to the program to an estimated 218,000 children.

- The Bill Would Boot 150,000 Kids Out Of Childcare: The bill “cuts the Child Care and Development Block Grant by $39 million, leaving 150,000 children with no place to go. More women will have to choose between working and supporting their families or providing childcare.”
- The Bill Would Lead To The Deaths Of More Than 70,000 Kids Globally: As USAID administrator Rajiv Shah notes that his agency estimates that 70,000 kids globally would die when they are unable to receive malaria treatment and other supports they need to survive due to the bill’s cuts in foreign aid and development. It is completely legitimate for Blackburn to have concerns about U.S. debt. It is, however, highly cynical to be feigning concern for children in order to advocate reducing the debt in a way that would harm children.

Gee go after children and for what so the budget will go from 1.7 trillion to 1.64 trillion  Gee what a savings.

Sanity -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:15:23 PM)

Sure, sure, weve heard it all before, the Republicans are killing the children and old people.

Again, there is no money. What are the real Democrat solutions? Instead of copy and paste Id much rather see action on the hill.

DomKen -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:16:50 PM)

I find it hilarious that the cons are trying to hide their mean spirited attacks on the poor and women with claims about the deficit. No rational person can look at the US budget and not acknowledge that the first and largest cuts in spending must come from the defence budget and that we must increase revenue by raising the higher marginal rates which are at historic lows but the cons have suggested neither.

Sanity -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:21:11 PM)

Okay, cut the defense, lets see them DO it.

Theyre sitting on their hands ken. Yet Obama wants us to be the worlds cop, so how can we do that with no military. Maybe the Europeans could dump a few of their bloated social giveaway programs and help out a little more there, hmm?

With an eye on the rising tiger in the East it might be in their best interest to do just that, and allow the USA to finally catch its breath.

But more than anything lets see some ACTION

Oh, and the REPUBLICAN filibuster on the budget was just for shits and giggles? They tried to get a budget through the fucking senate and the fucking REPUBLICANS filibustered the thing, so dont go blaming the democrats for something the REPUBLICANS did.

Lucylastic -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:28:48 PM)

So Im seeing that death panels and cuts  are fine for the poor, women and children,  but not for  teabaggers who are scared of obamacare.
how come?
ah yes "Basically for the vast majority of social conservatives they will only care when it hits them personally or someone they love,  until then, they dont wanna know."
Got the proof, right here on this page

Sanity -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:29:03 PM)

And again, in reply to no one in particular...

There is no one better at complaining about those who are actually lifting the heavy load than a leftist.

Sanity -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:31:32 PM)

Ive quoted Obama and Hillary declaring that the deficits are critical concerns, are they teabaggers who hate children too, lucy? [:D]

Of course deficits are a concern,
Who said they werent?????, dont put words into my mouth.

Sanity -> RE: Republicans for death panels? WTF??? (4/5/2011 3:37:33 PM)

Theyre a concern but the Dems refuse to make significant cuts, therefore the Dems have no right to bitch about those who are making proposals which would strive to fulfill one of Obamas hollow campaign promises
