ORIGINAL: MarkfromHouston I see comments on how there need to be incentives on electric cars...where does electricity come from? It is generated by gas, oil, coal, and nuclear energy for over 97% of the energy generated in the USA. If you want to see lower fuel prices which are directly linked to a healthy economy, then you must open up ANWAR and the Gulf of Mexico to drilling. You must lift the EPA restrictions on building new oil refineries in the USA and you must not take the incentive for investment in oil and gas exploration (profit) away from the oil companies by taxing the soup out of them. You want your stupid little electric car? Fine, do not expect the rest of us to want this assinine piece of crap. This would be comical,if it weren't so sad.Your answer is to double down on what we know is a failed strategy? Why ? Why tie the future to an energy source we know is finite...and we know that as a finite material the price will just continue to rise as the demand(Emerging economies) rises. Than to top it off you suggest we should further enrich the oil companies in the form of more or continued tax incentives.Tell me something once we have decided that GE doesn't have to pay taxes,Oil Co's, need not pay taxes.....the rich should not be burdened too harshly.....who,do you figure is left? The middle class is rapidly evaporating....and the poor....well they simply have no means to do so. So who will,in your scenario actually pay taxes ? We have over 150 years of known reserves in the USA, there are well over 500 years of suspected oil reserves in lightly explored areas. If you give me 150 years of oil to power the economy I can guarantee that we will find better ways of transportation and energy production as time goes by, if you do not do this then what I can also guarantee you with 100% certainty is that there will be no USA in 100 years. If you hate big companies so much that you want to break the economy, there is little that can be done to show you where you are wrong. I will say this, if I have to make a choice on doing work for a rich person or doing work for a poor person, I will choose the rich one every time because I like to be paid for my labors. I have been a succesful business owner for more than 20 years, I have been in the transportation industry as well as oil and gas for almost all of my adult life and I can tell you that w rich oil company is much better than a broke oil company. While we are at it let me give you this little hint on our economic situation. If we taxed every single penny of our GDP ( the entire earnings of every company in the USA) we could not balance the budget, we are spending over 100% of our GDP now for these idiotic give away programs. People need to be responsible for themselves, or starve to death, life is hard and cold in the big city people, buck up and make your own way and see how great it feels to be independent and self sufficient and not in debt. I know most people think that taxing the rich and the big corporations is what is needed to fix the problem, but most people simply do not understand that if we took every single penny that every business and every individual earned ( and that means your money too, and no one wants that) we would still have to borrow over a trillion a year. You tell me what will work. Cut everything or steal every penny earned? I know when you come to get mine you will need to be very well armed and I would think there are a lot more like me than you want to think. I own a business, I pay more taxes than you can imagine, My business operates almost 8 months out of the year to pay all the tax burden that is on it now, would you have me work nine? Ten? When is it too much? I know. When it is your money they take it will be too much. My best advice to all involved would be to pay no attention at all to nit-wits whose grasp on reality would seem shaky at best. Now I'm not suggesting that this is you....all I'm going to say is that if your business need operate for 8 months just to cover your tax bill......you are a)in the wrong business b) not a very good businessman c) completely full of shit...or d) a little bit of all of the above. Other than that.....have a nice night. Every year there is a date called tax freedom date, it is the average amount of the year which it takes a business to pay all of the state local and federal taxes, fees, and licenses to operate a business. In 2010 it was April 9th, this year it will be April 12th. The business I am in is much more highly taxed, and has a lot more fees. I own and operate semi trucks, we pay over fourty cents per gallon in state and federal taxes for every gallon of fuel. We pay $550.00 a year per truck in Federal heavy Use Tax, we average about $12,000.00 per year on each truck in road taxes and other state taxes. Without trucks you get nothing in your store, and before you peep up and say "put it on a train" look at your local grocery store and tell me where those tracks are? Call people nit wits, call them stupid, but soon my friend you will have to be weaned from the government teat, that old sow you have been suckling at for so long is running dry. Oh, and yes kill NPR, The NEA, and bring me the head of Big Bird from PBS, and along with it planned parenthood and a whole lot of bridges to nowhere. If you want to know how I really feel, let me say it straight out. Stop stealing the money that people earn to give it to your communist plan. Get a job, feed your family or starve, I do not care which one.
