As much as I can recollect, Dylan's protest songs were predominately acerbic and strident, without a trace of the utopianism of Lennon's Imagine.  What "dreamy message" are you referring to?  Mr. Tambourine Man?  Positively Fourth Street?  As far as I know, he became consistently apolitical after his (acoustic) protest period.  Who denigrated him for his "lefty, liberal dreamy message?"

Jesus...what a bunch of horseshit.  "lefty, liberal, dreamy" blech!  Even the man who first coined the word "utopia" stated that utopia is not anything that could exist on this metaphysical plane.  The next time some dip shit talks about lefty, liberal utopia, give them a treatise on dialectic materialism.  How pathetic.

Status: offline 		Not me...and yes I would agree with you on that,certainly a much more earthy gritty feel to Dylan's lyrics than anything Lennon did.

Thank goodness for the integrity of the newest generation.


They start out texting, and they will be texting 50 years hence.


No chance for 'turning' on original ideals when none are there at all.


In retirement they will be texting each other asking where the world went while we were texting each other.



That's the new message.

I give him credit, he went, I have no idea what it was like getting permission (hell look at the last "games") 


It is not the job of our aging rock stars to produce world peace, but our elected officials.  What have they done...either party.

Let them hear his songs, and understand our past did not start from a single concert, but from a voice heard and spread amongst its people

Status: offline 		One of the most interesting books I have ever read was "Chronicles, part one" by Bob Dylan.

It shows his life, music and career on an entirely new light.

It is well worth the time for anyone who is even a little bit interested.

Status: offline 		I don't think I believe it because this is a guy who came to Canada just to see the house the Neil Young lived in growing up. He probably did it so people think less of him and leave him alone in his privacy in my opinion.

Personally it is a bit distressing,though not totally unsurprising as I have read many of his past interviews,to hear how far Dylan distances himself from the very messages his music conveyed.I viewed most of the 60's protest music only in retrospect due to age....but though young during the 60's I did in fact live them...so my retrospect was done in light of personnel memories....marrying the music to images the 60's evoked   Dylan came to represent that segment of the  music industry that had the balls and the genius to take on the power structure....and do it in such a way that half the time the ones holding the levers weren't even aware of all the ways they were being lampooned.
Sad indeed to here this man now declare that it was all in pursuit of advancing a career....and nothing more.
