Our duty and our mandate under U.N. Security Council Resolution 1973 is to protect civilians, and we are doing that. It is not to remove Qaddafi by force.

Where's the irony?

In the "but" that comes right afterward, maybe?

Do you have the same objection to "observant" Jews,Christians and Buddhists ?

Do those religions command their believers to slaughter infidels?

Ever study much European history from about 1400 to 1700?

More or less constant slaughter because Christians couldn't agree which Christian group was the best.

So you equate European civilization from 1400 AD to 1700 AD as being about as bloodthirsty and devoid of compassion as modern Islam?

Its a bit telling you had to spot the Muslim extremists several centuries of cultural evolution.

So was Bloody Mary, or Tomás de Torquemada more or less intolerant of heretics than the modern Taliban is to Infidels?

I know some Muslims, and believe it or not, none of them have ever tried to slaughter me.

Me too.

How many Muslims Insurgents armed with automatic weapons engaged in armed insurrection in North Africa have you spent quality time with?

The context of this thread was supporting Muslim Rebels in a Libyan Civil War.

Isol, it's bad enough you have brought the intolerance factor into the conversation, but having started the thread, I will thank you not to decide you are the arbiter of context.

The Presidents of the US and France, along with the Prime Minister of Britain, have issued a joint statement that is easily interpreted as meaning that a serious escalation is imminent in Libya. What you are trying to claim is the context is merely one particular spin on that.

Then we are interpreting what was said differently.

My understanding of what was said can be summarized by the highlighted statement.

While they feel Qaddafi needs to go, they feel it is the responsibility of the Libyans to do that and NATO is only there to balance the odds in a limited role.

Heretic its bad enough that had to resort selective editing so as to take a quote out of context in order to accuse me of intolerance. Islam was equated to buddhism. You did not like my response and I do not think you are very bright.

What context did you intend when you started a thread about a joint statement containing further pretext to justify aiding Muslim Insurgents in a Libyan Civil War?

Its quite obvious that Obama intends escalation in Libya, he's been lying since this idiocy began.

I'll do as I will until censored by a mod ... or I get bored.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama/Cameron/Sarkozy Op-Ed: Is this a declaration of war? (4/15/2011 10:13:20 PM)

The pretext is protecting civilians, Isol, not aiding the rebels. The context is whether the statement amounts to a declaration of war.

RML, just wait. If you can't puzzle out what comes after the "but," Rachel and Ed will probably be on live soon enough to explain it all, and tell you how you should feel about it.

If Obama wanted to protect civilians he would have helped people who weren't holding AK 47s in the Congo. Humanitarian interests were always a lie.

Obama and his Axis are all about Imperialism. This will lead to a stalemate and endless bloodshed or with a Libyan Taliban in charge and endless bloodshed.

Sorry to be rude. I'm cynical and pissed that the media isn't reporting Libyan Rebel atrocities towards black Africans etc.

Since the rebels are civilians how does protecting civilians not aid the rebels?
The only reason you go to war is so you can fuck their women and take their dope...everything else is just rhetoric.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama/Cameron/Sarkozy Op-Ed: Is this a declaration of war? (4/15/2011 11:17:40 PM)

Since the situation is an armed insurrection, how do you figure the rebels are civilians, Thom?

Let's see dick...in a society one has civilians and military. If one is not part of the military then one is ipso facto civilian.

I'm sorry Richie, I thought you could manage to control yourself for once and have an intelligent debate.

Not to worry though, I won't make that mistake again.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama/Cameron/Sarkozy Op-Ed: Is this a declaration of war? (4/15/2011 11:38:25 PM)

If you want to participate in a serious discussion/debate, RML, have you considered not starting from stupid? Go back to the OP. Read what they are saying. Especially the part after the "but." Ask yourself why three major leaders of the free world need to do a joint Op-Ed on this.

As I've said, your interpretation is different from mine.

But you are really, really very intelligent Richie.

If this is the way you want to play the game Richie, stay tuned for new episodes.

Britain, France and the United States will not rest until the United Nations Security Council resolutions have been implemented and the Libyan people can choose their own future.

And what about the Libyan people who support the current regime. Seems we're not overly concerned with people choosing their future. In fact, we're going to make that choice for them: our choice.

NorthernGent -> RE: Obama/Cameron/Sarkozy Op-Ed: Is this a declaration of war? (4/16/2011 12:36:22 AM)

It's telling that most people here do not appreciate Communism - an attempt to force freedom upon people through coercion. Yet, attempts to force freedom upon people through coercion in places such as Iraq and Libya seems to be fine round here - different label, essentially the same action.

The only conclusion to be drawn is the government and media allies are very good at dressing up a situation to be whatever it wants it to be, and people just aren't reading between the lines.

When are we going to get bored of all of this? Not for the forseeable future, because with the world's population expanding at a rapid rate of knots, and with the world's population increasingly consuming more per head, there are many resources that are going to become more expensive or even unavailable - more than just oil.

2 of the 3 do.
